Typography Expert: Nothing At All "Alleged" About Forgeries

Not a fan of Bush, he says, but even less a fan of media-perpetrated fraud:

The probability that any technology in existence in 1972 would be capable of producing a document that is nearly pixel-compatible with Microsoft’s Times New Roman font and the formatting of Microsoft Word, and that such technology was in casual use at the Texas Air National Guard, is so vanishingly small as to be indistinguishable from zero.

Hmmm... didn't some pesky pajama'd political partisan just say almost the exact same thing?

Thanks to LGF.

Yes, but Charles lacks a key credential: opposition to Bush or support for Kerry. I've noticed in a few cases now that, in order to forestall an assumption that they are right wing hacks, purely technical experts speaking on their area of expertise have felt the need to get their pro-Kerry or anti-Bush convictions up-front and centre.

Apparently we're not full citizens according to the media, David.

Whatever they want to say, they say, unchallenged and unidentified by partisan leaning. We can only get quoted if we attack other Republicans (see, e.g., every NYT guest editorial by a Republican for the past 20 years) or if we can somehow overcome the presumption of dishonesty by offering up, "I lean right on some issues, but I hate Bush" or the like.

Wow, kooks. A guy named "flounder" is goign to overturn Time Magazine, the Boston Globe and 60 Mintues. You blogger militias really are getting desparate with your kooky theories! Is "flounder" another far right fascist freeper too???

The Ameircan people don't care about kerning you stupids! They care that Bush lied and a few "fake" memos (which I doubt are fake) are not going to stop the truth that Bush lied from getting out.

"You blogger militias really are getting desparate with your kooky theories!"

Here's to the blogger militia: uniformed in pajamas, but w/brown shirts! I look forward to Bush=Clinton's reply, one the public library reopens on Monday.

Cordially...

Hey, Bush = Liar? Stop being such a fascist. You're harshing my mellow, man.

Posted by: Smack on September 13, 2004 12:39 AM

Hee! You forgot to mention the NYT and the Washington Post - but wait, they're running stories about the memos being fake, so I guess they're part of the VRWC now as well. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to hear it :).

Thought I had a scoop, but it didn’t quite pan out.

Background – I’m skeptical that the font in the memos is Times New Roman. The “el”s aren’t quite right.

Found a font called “thesis” which has flat topped “el”s, and sloping topped “one”s. Just like in the memos (TNR has slope-topped for both characters.) Even better, the memos use the sloped topped “one”s in the address line, but a flat topped version in the main text, exactly what you would expect from someone brought up on using lower-case “el” as a “one”, but remembering occasionally to use the “one”.

Alas, the font had a straight apostrophe, not curly.

I still think there is value in tracking down the precise font used in the memos. If it turns out not to be TNR, but something more recent, it will be a coffin nail, for those who are not yet convinced.

I just found a post on Powerline by a neighbor of Strong, one of the “witnesses”. It’s second-hand, from an unknown source, so I don’t put a lot of weight on it, but he claims Strong said they had Selectric typewriters in the Guard, the type with balls.

If he actually said it, then it is inadvertent evidence against the memos being genuine.

Maybe someone at a news organization can interview him. I’d like to hear him corroborate or deny his claim to a more credible reporter.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
