I can't believe this. Sully's out of the hammock, and Ace hasn't blogged a word about it!

C'mon, Ace! What do you say to Sully signing onto the "Swifties-are-part-of-a-Karl-Rove-smear-campaign" take on things? Has Sully joined the Michael Moore tinfoil hat brigade?

We want to know, dammit!

I don't know what to say. He's a kneejerk liberal Kerry partisan; there are millions of such people. Why should I give him any special attention?*

* This is code for "I can't think of anything to say" and/or "Sullivan really bores me at this point."

I find AS to be very MEGO (my eyes glaze over).

As I've mentioned before, I've always had this problem with him. He's like -- and I don't mean this as a gay dig -- one of those women fiction writers who just don't interest me. It's too much gassy, gauzy emotionality and not enough meat/crunchiness/logical argumentation.

I had that problem when he was "on our side," by the way. I never really got why conservatives trumpeted him as so "important." He was defintely shrill and emotional (first for the war, then against it), but never particularly important, interesting, or compelling.

I'll try to think of something to say, though.

But basically, I've said everything one can conceivably say about Sullivan already.

How about a Sully top-10 "You know he's out of the hammock when..."

Okay, the demand is too strong to be ignored. I will be doing an AS Top Ten. I think it's going to be "Top Ten Things Which are Important to Andrew Sullivan." I've got four or five so far.

Good snicker at the women fiction writers' analogy. Why would you waste time reading the nexst installment of Sully's Anne McCaffrey-esque "Bareback Dragonriders of Pern", when VDH is serving up some tasty good Fritz Leiber every week?

I remember while reading Sully's Kerry endorsement, the song "Falling in Love Again," kept going through my head.

Yeah, I don't want to get into the gay digs, either, but his sudden flurry of pro-Kerry posts made me think of a neurotic woman in a Woody Allen movie trying to convince herself that she really was in love with the one-armed dentist she was about to marry. (Not that Woody Allen ever actually made a movie with such a scene or such a character; it just seemed that, if he did, Sully's pro-Kerry posts would have fit right in.)

Being of Greek ancestry, I have to admit that the past few weeks have been great for me...the Olympics were successfully completed. People were reminding of such landmark battles in early western civilization like Thermopylae and Marathon. The names of great statesmen and scholars like Pericles, Themosticles, Plato and Aristotle were being mentioned on a daily basis. Then I see Dukakis riding a tank and remember that all those great accomplishments of the ancient Greeks happened a long, long, lonnnnng time ago...
