...but it's even closer than that. Kerry's lead comes via slim leads in three small states Bush carried in 2000 (NH, WV, NV).
He's got a fun fact concerning the former Republic of Texas:
Under the terms of Texas’s admission to the Union as a state in 1845, the former independent Republic has the right to split into five separate states almost at will. That would be eight more electoral votes for Bush! Why haven’t the President’s supporters in the Lone Star State at least discussed the possibility?
That's the sort of thing Republicans never have the balls to do. Still, it's fun to think about.
