Lefty AmericaBlog Wants Long Knives Out For Dems Over Alito ConfirmationThis is just that much more evidence of why there needs to be a major blood-letting in the Democratic party, and soon. Heads need to roll. ROLL. People need to lose their jobs, en masse. After 2000, no one took responsibility. After 2004, no one took responsibility. And now it's happening again. Our wonderful party leaders are sitting back and scratching their heads wondering why the country isn't simply running into our arms while they sit back and do nothing to earn the country's respect and loyalty. Preach it, sister. You've got me convinced. These guys have seen too many episodes of The West Wing. They really think the path to electoral domination is through full-on liberalism. Cool fact about Dick Cheney: He's been nuturing Aaron Sorkin's career for years for just this purpose. More delicious, nougaty insantiy here. Via the Blogometer. Correction: I incorrectly wrote "Kristallnacht" when I meant to reference the Night of the Long Knives. Thanks to Otho Lawrence for the correction. posted by Ace at 07:17 PM
Commentsa major blood-letting in the Democratic party Well what he really wants then is another Night of the Long Knives as opposed to Kristallnacht. That would be your proper NAZI analogy. Perhaps Teddy Kennedy can play the role of Ernst Röhm... Posted by: Otho Laurence on January 17, 2006 07:25 PM
There is some serious venom in the comments. I read the majority of them and didn't find many that even remotely questioned the message and policies of the Democratic party. Posted by: MCPO Airdale on January 17, 2006 07:28 PM
Want to see real talent? How about a rational conclusion based on total denial. Yeah, Bush won, despite being hated by everyone because Democratic leadership failed to lead. Don't even consider the possibility that the reason you ran the wrong guy was because you were, I don't know, wrong? They're turning on themselves. The problem with Democrats over the last 5 years is that they dwell on their arguments as to what is wrong with no consideration as to what should be done. Case in point, an analysis of what's wrong with Democratic Leadership with nary a thought as to what would be right. Oh, and everyone hates Bush. We're all still on the same page with that, right? Posted by: Biff Boff on January 17, 2006 07:28 PM
You know what's sad? They think the answer is to move even further to the left. They are just convinced that the average American feels the same way they do, in spite of two decades' worth of electoral results to the contrary. Posted by: Monty on January 17, 2006 07:30 PM
They move further to the left because extremes are inherently passionate and they feel much better when they rage. The real point here as that they are climbing back into their 2004 election mindset that what they really need to do is communicate with the American people. After all, they're right about everything and they just need America to realize that. Of course, what they're right about is a technicality. Besides, the only thing that really matters is what you rage against. So just hate Bush a little more and everything will be alright. You're anger makes you powerful. As I've said for some time, Karl Rove must be paying some of these jackasses a shitload. Either that, or it takes a special type of stupidity to believe the typical Type 1 Mod 0 Leftard rant. Posted by: Randy Rager on January 17, 2006 07:43 PM

I spend more time than I should admit messing around on the Huffington Post. They have a couple of columnists who have worked on the Kerry, Gore, etc. campaigns, so I guess they could be considered party strategists. Lately they've been posting on what the Dems need to do to, like, win. The beauty of it is, they do not have the Slightest. Effing. Clue. why America finds them so unattractive. Posted by: stace on January 17, 2006 07:47 PM
Part of me is in total glee over the continuing meltdown of the democrats and their futile attempts to appease their base. Another part of me is concerned that the GOP will shift even more left and take up the "center", ie continue to spend spend spend like a drunken sailor eating up the "middle". If a guy like Leeb could get the DNC nomination I would not be concerned, there is a good case for divided government ie Clinton and the stingy GOP, but the the GOP in charge and a president that ignores fiscal concerns, I'm not sure who the bigger losers are. Posted by: Pable Honey on January 17, 2006 07:48 PM
Well, fine, then. No more predictions for you. Except two more: And Carolina will repeat what they did the last time they went to the Super Bowl. Baby. Posted by: Bart on January 17, 2006 07:48 PM
As I've said for some time, Karl Rove must be paying some of these jackasses a shitload. If I had to, I would. But they're just giving it away. GIVING. Do the little bastards have any idea how much I'd be willing to buy this level of crazy for? Posted by: Karl Rove's Id on January 17, 2006 07:51 PM
nother part of me is concerned that the GOP will shift even more left and take up the "center", ie continue to spend spend spend like a drunken sailor eating up the "middle".Alas, that ship has already sailed. The Republicans are now what the Democrats were in former years: big government spend-o-crats, cozy with K Street money, and exist only to bring home the pork to the home district. The only reason to vote for those clowns is national defense. At least they admit there's a war on; the Democrats seeem to think it's some kind of world-wide cops-n-robbers game. If the comments on that blog are the true voice of the Democrats, Republicans have nothing to worry about. What a bunch of pointless blather and sour grapes. At least Ace gives us Scarlett Johansen's point of view, and there's always some good gay cowboy talk. Comments head and shoulders above that of Americablog! "Um... you must be reading the wrong posts. Criticism #1 across all lefty blogs is that the Democrats have no message whatsoever and their policies are Republican Lite." I agree with scarshapedstar on this. Their complaints about the Democratic Party seem to fall in to two categories 1) leadership - ineffective, coopted by the system, etc 2) policies - not progressive enough Now you can question the effectiveness of their political strategy, but these are not people in love with their party. Posted by: steve_in_hb on January 17, 2006 08:18 PM

Nope. The only tie that binds this coalition of morons together is that they all really hate Bush. A lot. Their sweety, tangy elitism also has a binding effect. I continued to be amazed by the things they say. As Ace posted before - I'm not a true blue REPUBLICAN like many folks here are. There are a lot of social issues where I'm very out of step with Rebuplican/Conservative positions. However, I marvel at the arrogant elitism of those posters. geoff, I will get to you later. First, I'd like to say that it would be funny if some less-scrupulous righties were to visit blogs and, say, encourage the boys and girls to abandon the dems. Something like: See? We should have voted for Nader in 2000 and 2004. We lost those elections anyway. We could have sent a message to the Democratic Party -- get more like Ralph or screw! Who's to say we'll win in '08 with these phony gasbags. We should support alternativ candidates until our party returns to Us. Geoff, really now, did the Broncos look like a good team Saturday? Or did they look like a team who scored 24 out their toal 27 points off turn-overs by a lousy opponent? Posted by: Bart on January 17, 2006 09:24 PM
Can't disagree with the lousy opponent part, but many of the turnovers were forced. I don't think Pittsburgh is really going to be that tough, although the Broncos often make it look that way. Posted by: geoff on January 17, 2006 09:28 PM
First, I'd like to say that it would be funny if some less-scrupulous righties were to visit blogs and, say, encourage the boys and girls to abandon the dems. Bart, excellent idea. We should have a contest to see who gets that perfect mix of arrogance, ignorance, and unhinged rage. The goal is to get a response or amen from the lefties. Here's my submission that I posted over there. How'd I do? I've HAD IT with this cowardly leadership that refuses to FIGHT BACK!!!! How long are we going to let the Repukes and their Jebus worshiping Red State rubes drag this country the way of the Germans circa 1940? If the Democrats are going to stand by and let this happen they are NO BETTER! We should make sure that we push back against this inept leadership and send them a message by voting for Nader or some other 3rd option. I don't like doing this, but it's the only way now. We're at the abyss! Extreme measures MUST BE TAKEN!!! They must know that we WILL BE HEARD! Posted by: The Warden on January 17, 2006 09:35 PM

That little Rocky Mountain bubble you live in is keeping you from what people really think about the Broncos -- they are not that good. Pittsburgh just won in the Dome. They won in the Dome against the best offense in the NFL. Posted by: Bart on January 17, 2006 10:13 PM
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll save it for Sunday. Suffice to say that my prediction varies significantly from yours - we'll see whose accuracy survives intact. Posted by: geoff on January 17, 2006 10:18 PM
Most of the posts are pretty tame compared to DU, they've really got it turned up to 11 there. The best and most DU like is the anti-moonies post by "Benton", some of his better hits: In case you haven't been paying attention a conservative is a theocrat, a racist, a fascist, and most all, a false Christian who uses religion to reach their political goals. What no homophobe? Darn. No, the problem is that liberals have never faced and stated what conservatism REALLY is. Yes, if liberals would just face the fact that conservatives are theocrats and racists and fascists, and make this very vocally known, I'm sure that'll help their chances in 2006. Fuck I hear liberlas say Bush is NOT a conservative. How insane is that? He is the spawn of conservatism. I got news for you, they are breeding much worse than Bush down on the farm. They are just STARTING to destroy our nation, just starting. Good God I hope so. Posted by: Otho Laurence on January 17, 2006 10:31 PM

A more sobering thought is that we are not dealing with little Gandhis, here. Some of the people on the unhinged Left are very angry and desperate for control. They do not strike me as the type who will sit by peacefully and allow the political winds to change over time. In their minds there is no time to waste. The country is being ruined and can not afford another four years of control by the evil Christian Right. Violence in the '04 campaign was, I fear, a harbinger of more violence in the future. Cowardly yet destructive tactics will be employed. A more militant political movement will emerge to influence elections. As of now, it looks like we will keep control of Congress after the elections. And things are escalating concerning Iran. This combination equals the Left going ape-shit in '07 and '08. Bush getting a third Court appointment in his second term will be the tipping point. The Left will simply go bezerk. If they decide to get violent, it will of course hurt their chances at the polls. The only way it could work for them is to sacrifice some of their own -- and I wouldn't put it past them. All it would take is a few of their truested leaders to incite riots and major disruptions on and around college campuses. If they can force the National Guard or the State Police to respond a la Kent, Ohio, it would be very bad for the Republicans. Posted by: Bart on January 18, 2006 01:09 AM

The open contempt they display for the common citizen really turns me off. I've never figured out what this means. I'm no fan of Toby Keith or NASCAR but I doubt 200 other Americans actually are so, technically, I don't see how I am in some sort of mean ol' elitist minority. People make fun of golf, which is a similarly crappy sport, and people make fun of rap music, which is actually more popular than "common" country music, yet there's no finger wagging. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that as you drive down I-65, you really DO hear nothing but country music and see nothing but NASCAR memorabilia on sale at the gas stations. But this area of the country isn't by any stretch of the imagination what I'd call "real" or "common" America. White trash America, sure. But something about having to look at David Duke campaign posters from time to time back home in Louisiana makes me really loathe this particular socioeconomic class. Scar, last time this came up you openly admitted that your own ideal Iraq policy would be the same as Bush's. Only without Bush. But I digress, those clown shoes look GREAT on you. Actually, I'm pretty sure I said I would have done what Bush says he's doing. There's a key difference: I'd do a better job. (Well, okay, I wouldn't have invaded Iraq, but that's a fait accompli.) Like this classic anecdote from Riverbend: One of my cousins works in a prominent engineering company in Baghdad- we’ll call the company H. This company is well-known for designing and building bridges all over Iraq. My cousin, a structural engineer, is a bridge freak. He spends hours talking about pillars and trusses and steel structures to anyone who’ll listen. As May was drawing to a close, his manager told him that someone from the CPA wanted the company to estimate the building costs of replacing the New Diyala Bridge on the South East end of Baghdad. He got his team together, they went out and assessed the damage, decided it wasn’t too extensive, but it would be costly. They did the necessary tests and analyses (mumblings about soil composition and water depth, expansion joints and girders) and came up with a number they tentatively put forward- $300,000. This included new plans and designs, raw materials (quite cheap in Iraq), labor, contractors, travel expenses, etc. Let’s pretend my cousin is a dolt. Let’s pretend he hasn’t been working with bridges for over 17 years. Let’s pretend he didn’t work on replacing at least 20 of the 133 bridges damaged during the first Gulf War. Let’s pretend he’s wrong and the cost of rebuilding this bridge is four times the number they estimated- let’s pretend it will actually cost $1,200,000. Let’s just use our imagination. A week later, the New Diyala Bridge contract was given to an American company. This particular company estimated the cost of rebuilding the bridge would be around -- brace yourselves -- $50,000,000!! I know I'm going out on a limb here, but I submit to you that I would have managed to catch at least one such pooch-screwing of this magnitude over the last three years. Bush sure hasn't. For christ's sake, he's proud of ignoring current events. Doesn't that set off any alarms? Posted by: on January 18, 2006 02:01 AM

Especially when you say this: The open contempt they display for the common citizen really turns me off. And then this: You are a stunning example of cluelessness, wrapped in befuddlement and dipped in ignorance. Bravo, sir! Bravo! Posted by: Sortelli on January 18, 2006 02:07 AM
I'm no fan of Toby Keith or NASCAR but I doubt 200 million other Americans actually are so I don't care for NASCAR either, but it is *the* most popular live sport in America, and the second most-watched televised sport. I know I'm going out on a limb here, but I submit to you that I would have managed to catch at least one such pooch-screwing of this magnitude over the last three years. Bush sure hasn't. Well, you wouldn't, because that was happening at a level about 8 paygrades below the Presidency. And the system *has* caught many overbids, frauds, and improper charges. Are you ever going to say anything meaningful or reflective of researched thought? Posted by: geoff on January 18, 2006 02:16 AM
Anonymous (Maybe scar?) - I've posted about it before, but here it goes. I was born in NY, grew up in NJ, mom the classic Manhattan Jew, dad a writer/journalist, got my MBA from NYU. In other words, I'm about as un-South/un-heartland as you can get. I've only lived in NY, NJ, SoCal. I'm not even really into politics - I hang here because Ace was a buddy from college. As I mentioned earlier, in terms of social values I'm very different from many of the people here. Both when I see liberal posters here and on their own blogs, there is a lot of sneering elitism - typically manifested as follows: 1) Post contains mocking reference to pickups/gunracks, etc in describing Republicans/Conservatives 2) Use of mock hick phrasing - y'all, gubmint, etc 3) Contempt for religious people - I'm an athiest, but I don't use religion as an indicator of intelligence 4) Direct use of "ignorant masses", "the people are too stupid to...", etc There are more examples. I'm saying as a person who's vote is in play, this is not the way to attract me. If it turns me off so much, imagine the impact on the people who are actual members of the socio/economic/geographical groups they are mocking. To a degree it reminds of the people I would meet in NYC who just moved there from Oklahoma, Kansas, etc. They've been in the city all of three months and suddenly they are cosmopolitan snob stalking down about the bridge&tunnel crowd, etc. Posted by: steve_in_hb on January 18, 2006 02:19 AM

Are you ever going to say anything meaningful or reflective of researched thought? I have to echo this, scar, why are you here? Because you don't bring anything of substance. I mean, Jesus, you just came in here and said the big complaint with the Democrats is that they are Republican Lite. Then you admitted that, yes, Bush's current Iraq policy is the best one, but YOU would not be stupid and corrupt like Bush. Appealing to the idea that Bush is stupid and corrupt is not an argument and it isn't compelling outside of your circle jerk. So, the Democrat's problem is that they're only following the Republican lead, which, by the way, is the right one. Okay, then! Then you express curiosity at how anyone could feel the American Left has contempt for the average American. And then you stereotype a huge swath of America, insult them but defend it by implying since they're not like your buddies in the circlejerk they aren't the average American. They're just white trash. That just makes you look like a stupid, careless bigot. So I'm guessing you're not here for discussion, and you're sure as hell not here to win hearts and minds. Are you here to make yourself look good? Because, brother, if that is what you want, your only saving grace is that you're deluded enough to imagine that revealing what a royally stupid asshole you are looks good. Kinda ironic that we're getting you over here at the same time Steve posted that crazy fallout from the orange faced kid that thought he looked hotti. Posted by: Sortelli on January 18, 2006 02:45 AM
Oh, and by the way, David Duke is truly loathsome. But I wouldn't try to smear anyone by association with him since he's you know, ON YOUR SIDE NOW. Posted by: Sortelli on January 18, 2006 02:48 AM
Well, Sortelli - he's an engineering student. At that age they're convinced that they've got it all figured out - I sure was. Bart - Asking for it just uncool. Like standing around with your boys, collars popped, club shirts on, hard looks, etc. You're better than that. Your attitude should say "Fuck you, I say this shit to amuse myself." Posted by: steve_in_hb on January 18, 2006 04:46 AM
What can I say? On the outside I'm a grown man (tanned, muscular, and trimmed eyebrows), but on the inside I'm a fragile little boy who desperately needs attention and affirmation. Posted by: Bart on January 18, 2006 04:50 AM
but on the inside I'm a fragile little boy who desperately needs attention and affirmation. . . . and after Sunday it'll only by worse. You've got to wonder what Spurwing's motivation is - he doesn't seek communication, he doesn't want to meet chicks, he doesn't write to impress or convince, and he doesn't write for art. He just strafes the site, and the Moving Finger, Having Write, Moves On. A perfect state of "Flow," perhaps. Posted by: geoff on January 18, 2006 04:54 AM
Late nite typo frenzy: "by" is "be," and "Write" is "Writ." Posted by: geoff on January 18, 2006 04:56 AM
Well, part of the reason you are ignored is because of your poor communication skills. Use the common greetins ," wHAt UP my NI99AZZZ." If you want to flirt with Feisty, talk about how much money you make and what kind of car you drive. Make sure she knows about all the other bitches that are in to you. A little common sense and ettiquette will get you the attention you so desire. Posted by: steve_in_hb on January 18, 2006 04:58 AM
The responses to that pic are great. 1)give me a basball bat, a bottle of JD and lock the doors. 2)first guy looks like a penis face, 2nd guy is some canadian fruit cake, 3rd guy thinks he's hardcore drinking heineken, 4th guy looks like a dirty sanchez, guy on the far right is the only one that looks italian, but could pass as a woman. im not even gonna comment on the fag in the back with a pink shirt 3)wtf is with the hair? Looks like a bukkake aftermath !! Posted by: steve_in_hb on January 18, 2006 05:08 AM
Steve, you did notice that Ace posted your link in the news headline column, didn't you? Posted by: geoff on January 18, 2006 05:12 AM
Thanks for the heads up - I didn't notice. I've been engrossed exploring this phenomenon. I've traced forums all through Europe, US, etc latching on to these tools. The thing is blowing up - its liking being there when "All Your Bases" started spreading. It's funny, because every forum whether car focused, gun focused, martia larts focused, Dutch, English dirtbikers, etc - people have the exact same reactions to these fools.. Posted by: steve_in_hb on January 18, 2006 05:18 AM
No Bart, that was a real crude thing to write about Feisty. You owe her an apology. Posted by: shawn on January 18, 2006 07:34 AM
