Iranian Foreign Policy Big Warns Europeans To Back Off Or Prepare To Live "In Hell"

Whatever could they mean?

Eh, no big deal. There's no way the Europeans will be rattled by such belligerent "diplomacy."

Has France surrendered yet?

All along the Iranians have been saying words to the effect that they're quite willing to negotiate with the Europeans as long as the Europeans don't make any silly demands -- like demanding that the Iranians abandon their ambition to produce nuclear weapons.

What the hell is Iran up to? I just understand what the endgame is intended to be. One would think that if they were serious about getting nukes, they'd play a very quiet and circumspect public game; or just make a treaty and then flout it like the DPRK did.

It's the rhetoric that really has me on edge. This continued avalanche of anti-semitism, belligerence, and saber-rattling indicates to me that the Iranians are spoiling for a fight because they think the Americans are powerless to stop them (or lack the will to do so).

Sharon's sudden illness couldn't have come at a worse time for Israel, either -- Iran will perceive that Israel is in an uncertain transition period where they will be slow to act as well. In fact, I think the opposite is true: the Israeli's will probably be more prone to attack now, just to show that there is no power vacuum.

So really, the US and Israel are running out of reasons not to attack Iran. I wouldn't look for an invasion, but I would look for a comprehensive air campaign and an airtight naval blockade. (Although this could get very messy if Russia tries to break the blockade....)

I just don't understand

Applying Occam's Razor the explanation would appear to be that Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs are nucking futs. Ok, I admit I have no geopolitical analytical skilz.

Posted by: BrewFan on January 8, 2006 06:47 PM

I wonder what they mean by a "hell" for Europe? Europe already pays out the wazoo for oil, at least the citizenry and their outrageous taxes. And if they destroy Israel, Europe would love for that to happen.

BrewFan: You have it right.

The Iranian leadership is batshit crazy. Trying to work out the logic of their positions is not going to get you anywhere because they are not working by logic.

I suspect that if we weren't all a bunch of unnuanced wingnuts, we would realize that Bush is far, far scarier and more dangerous than Ahmadinejad.

How many kilos of recreational pharmaceuticals a week do ya suppose it takes to achieve and maintain this kind of 'nuance'?

I've been trying, but I'm still not there yet.

If Iran destroys Israel, millions of nearby Arabs - Palestinians mostly - will need to move out of the fallout zone.

We already know the other Islamic countries won't take 'em., so where would they go? Hmm, lemme think, mon ami, lemme think.

Posted by: ras on January 8, 2006 11:17 PM

I'd say Venezuela, but I'd prefer to keep them out of our hemisphere.

A terrorist sponsoring terrorists and they still beling to the wretched UN lets get ourselves out of the wretched UN

Using a nuke on Israel would be the stupidest thing humanity ever did. Ever. In its entire history. Entire.

Why? Just think of the fallout. Besides Israel, who would be affected? Just because of proximity, Jordon, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt would be seriously affected. Of course, the Palestinian territories (Gaza and West Bank) would also be most seriously affected. Throw in also other nearby states: Cyprus and Saudi Arabia. What about nearby water areas? Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea? Surely that'll spread the negative affects. And depending on which way the wind blows, the entire region of the world could be in for some serious fallout.

Such weapons do not respect borders. Radiation will not stop and proceed only when Arab immigration control personnel permit it to, examining its passport to make sure it never visited Israel.

If Russia intervenes, perhaps it would be time to remind the Russian Federation how the Soviet Union felt when many American nukes were pointing towards targets in the USSR.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.

People say that the bearded man in the video of Fartwell molesting a hooker looks like Democrat Arizona Senator Rueben Gallego, said to be Swalwell's "best friend" and known to take vacations with him.
@KFILE 21m

Politico is reporting that multiple people have abruptly resigned from Eric Swalwell's gubernatorial campaign: "Members of senior leadership have departed the campaign, including Courtni Pugh, a strategic adviser who served as Swalwell's top liaison to organized labor groups."

So the campaign is collapsing due to the truth of the sexual harassment allegations.
That hissing sound you hear is the air going out of the Swalwell campaign. UPDATE: No it wasn't, it was just Swalwell one-cheek-sneaking out a fart on camera
Eric Swalwell more like Eric Farewell amirite

This is the dumbest AI bullslop I've seen in a while: the CIA can use "quantum magnetometry" to track an individual man's heartbeat from twelve miles away
I wouldn't click on it, it's not interesting, it's just stupid clickslop. I just want to share my annoyance with you.
Oil prices plunge on bizarre realization that Eric Swalwell may actually be straight. A rapey molester, allegedly, but a straight one.

This is super-obscure and I only barely remember it. Given that, I'll give you the hint that it's by the Red Rocker.
And I guess you think you've got it made
Oh, but then, you never were afraid
Of anything that you've left behind
Oh, but it's alright with me now
'Cause I'll get back up somehow
And with a little luck, yes, I'm bound to win

Now twenty people will tell me it's not obscure, it was huge in their hometown and played at their prom. That's how it usually goes. When I linked Donnie Iris's "Love is Like a Rock," everyone said they knew that one and that his other song (which I didn't know at all) Ah Leah! was huge in their area.

In more marketing for Project Hail Mary, scientists say they've found the biosigns indicating life growing on an alien planet. It's not proof, just signatures of chemicals that are produced by biological metabolism, and it could be nothing, but scientists think it's a strong sign that this planet is inhabited by something.
In a paper published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters, a team of scientists announced the detection of dimethyl sulfide (along with a similar detection of dimethyl disulfide) in the atmosphere of an exoplanet called K2-18b. This is actually the second detection of dimethyl sulfide made on this planet, following a tentative detection in 2023.
Tons of chemicals are detected in the atmospheres of celestial objects every day. But dimethyl sulfide is different, because on Earth, it's only produced by living organisms.
"It is a shock to the system," Nikku Madhusudhan, first author on the paper, told the New York Times. "We spent an enormous amount of time just trying to get rid of the signal."

He means they tried to prove the signal was caused by things other than dimethyl sulfide but they could not.
