« Soldier Who Challenged Murtha Shows Up In Politpundit's Comments Section | Main | Sleuth TV »
January 07, 2006

Murtha "Worries" That Bush's Strategy Will Be Perceived As Victory

Why is this such a concern?

"A year ago, I said we can't win this militarily, and I got all kinds of criticism." Now, Murtha told the strongly antiwar audience, "I worry about a slow withdrawal which makes it look like there's a victory when I think it should be a redeployment as quickly as possible and let the Iraqis handle the whole thing."

If Murtha's concern is for the troops and America, why should he be worried that a slow drawdown will be perceived as a victory? Isn't a good thing that America perceives itself as victorious? Given the choice between an immediate withdrawal perceived as defeat, and a slow withdrawal perceived as victory, who would favor the former?

Well, he would, obviously. Because he's the one who suggested doing that. And he claimed the war could not be won-- he can hardly have Bush seen as winning now that he's staked his reputation (such as it is) on the impossibility of such.

He only seems to care about his personal victory-- he needs a clear defeat and acknowlegement of such in order to vindicate himself, no matter how such a thing might encourage terrorists and sap America's confidence in its ability to fight necessary wars.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: they are desperate to lose this war as quickly as possible because it appears that we just might win. They know they cannot survive the political consequences of an American victory of which they were most assuredly not a part.

Remember-- this is the guy who said he wouldn't have taken the enormous step of calling for a full withdrawal if Bush's people had only kissed his ass a little more on the phone.

What a hero.

Meanwhile, via Allah, TKS finds a fairly large lefty blogger making this statement about Zawahiri's "Bush has lost" claim:

I have to admit it is fun to see Al Qaeda play Bush like a violin.

Al Qaeda is "fun" as long as it can serve as an embarrassment for Bush.

But don't question their patriotism. Oh, no. Don't you dare do that.

The Clips on Michelles site are friggen awesome, you can hear how terrified everyone is to actually respond. Moran just plain ignoring the Sgt's question "that wasn't in the form of a question" so I guess the inferred "why" in the soldiers statement can be ignored. . .well, good for you Moran, but I didn't ignore your inferred "Go Fuck yourself, you jackbooted thug" that followed his "over here"

And the General's statement? took him what? 45 seconds to even complete a sentence?

Left wing cowardly fucks. I guess heroism is only important when it applies to ones self. Fuck all of the people who do the same, or more, they aren't as important as Murtha, or Kerry.

I meant Morans response to the Generals statement that is.

I guess it's fun to see American soldiers blown up by IED's too if it'll hurt President Bush. I guess it was fun seeing 757's slam into the WTC too. One of these days, liberals are going to wake up in the real world and be really scared to death when singing peace songs and saying let's talk won't work and Mr. Jihadist just blows them up at their favorite Starbucks, mall or protest gathering. I can't wait to say I told you so.

Funny, seems like the violin's military has been pretty decisively destroying the violin player's "army" whenever the two get together to play.

[Sorry, sort of off-topic but didn't know where else to put it:

Ace (or anyone else), any interest in this?:

http://www.exile.ru/2005-December-28/are_we_wrong_about_bush.html

Inviting submissions for a paid (I presume) column defending Bush in a left-wing magazine and website. Their style is gonzo but well-written and they're funny and smart. Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone and the New York Press, whose takedown of Thomas Friedman you linked to a while back, is one of their alumni, and various of their other writers have ended up with book contracts. They're looking for spleen and good writing, and they're the sort of leftists who hate their fellow leftists and the MSM almost as much as you do, so I thought there could be a match.]

Thanks, Si. I'll check that out. I'm sure others will too.

I have to admit it is fun to see Al Qaeda play Bush like a violin.

And I have to admit it is revolting to see Al Qaeda's U.S. constituency dancing to this imagined violin concerto. Not that I'm questioning their patriotism. Only their timing.

Cordially...

I gues a better way of putting it would be "it's depressing as hell to see Bush get played like a violin by a bunch of backwards islamofascists. Shouldn't we be smarter than them?" Is that better?

Posted by: Tom in Texas on January 7, 2006 03:10 PM

Tom in Texas

His 'amusing' and your 'depressing as hell' are synonyms? "It was really amusing to see my aunt die slowly of cancer." "It was really depressing as hell to see my aunt die slowly of cancer." Hmm. Oh I see. You mean he was using 'amusing' ironically to mean 'not amusing'? Well, in that case it's amusing to see someone defend what is either bad or offensive writing with an 'irony' defense. (I mean 'amusing' in the sense of 'not amusing,' of course.)

No matter how smoothly the handover of security operations to Iraqi forces proceeds, the Left will paint it as a despondent withdraw from a failed war a la Vietnamization.

Posted by: John on January 7, 2006 04:29 PM

But don't question their patriotism. Oh, no. Don't you dare do that.
Before we could question their patriotism, we'd have to find it. Perhaps their patriotism is hiding with Lucy Rameriz ( the chick that supposedly gave the Bush national guard memo to that unimpeachable source Burckett-sp?). I guess we'll need to sick old Dan Rather on the hiding patriotism mystery; that way we can be sure of the veracity of it's location.

I have to admit it is fun to see Al Qaeda play Bush like a violin.

Since someone begged him for his valuable opinion, after all. Begged and pleaded.

@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.

Politico is reporting that multiple people have abruptly resigned from Eric Swalwell's gubernatorial campaign: "Members of senior leadership have departed the campaign, including Courtni Pugh, a strategic adviser who served as Swalwell's top liaison to organized labor groups."

So the campaign is collapsing due to the truth of the sexual harassment allegations.
