AOL Brower Problems

I've been adivsed that the site is displaying very strangely when an AOL browser is used. For the moment, I can only suggest using IE or another browser if you have one.

Somewhere on my site I must have some open tags which other browsers are closing but the AOL browser is not. I'll look for the open tags, but it's probably going to take me a while to find them

That's like complaining this site doesn't work on IE 1.0

Get FF 1.5, it's faster than your boyfriend.

Fuck 'em.

Posted by: Bart on January 5, 2006 03:25 PM

Even AOL highspeed users (like me) can use IE or FF(like I do).

AOL users are like the internet's palestinians. They get what they deerve.

that's "deserve" damn MS keyboard!

I don't use an AOL browser, but the one I use is filtering out the 'S' in the word browser, from your headline.

no aol = no trolls and fewer dorks. What's not to like?

Posted by: max on January 5, 2006 03:32 PM

what the hell would cause that?

Posted by: ace on January 5, 2006 03:35 PM

The que_tion wa_: can I write a whole pot without u_ing the letter '_', while not giving up readability? And the anwer i_: no!

Do us a favor, Ace: reinstate the lowly 's'.

I think you gave up a fair share of heterosexuality as well.

I've found 1.5 unstable under my usual conditions (lots and lots of open tabs). Had to downgrade to 1.0.7.

I put http://ace.mu.nu into http://validator.w3.org/ and it found many problems, most of which you can ignore. But one of them is probably a real problem.

I think this is it, on line 116:
<div class="sidetitle">Support</div>
<div class="side"></a>
The </a> doesn't seem to belong to anything.

Or maybe it's the ampersand in "Q&A", which should be specified in HTML as "&amp;".

Another validation tool is here.

WebTV - invented to give AOL users a group to make fun of....

Posted by: Jeff on January 5, 2006 05:39 PM

DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"

Don't use these tags if you don't really mean it.

the AOL browser is just IE in disguise anyway.

I get over 1000 errors on THIS page alone - but validating against HTML 3.2 gives only 100 errors or so on the w3 validator:
http://validator.w3.org/

Anyway, I'm running firefox on FreeBSD (unix) and the page displays fine for me.

Posted by: bBriggs on January 5, 2006 05:57 PM

I'm running firefox on FreeBSD (unix)

I'm on Linux. Happily Microsoft-free! :)

I think the advice then should be to use Firefox, not M$IE, even for people stuck with using some version of Windows.

Thanks... I got rid of that a on line 116 and got rid of the ampersand, too.

I don't know what is meant by "don't use these tags if you don't mean them." Why shouldn't I? SHould I just delete that stuff?

Posted by: ace on January 5, 2006 07:15 PM

Ace:
He's referring to the DOCTYPE declaration at the very beginning of the HTML. The declaration tells the browser, "Hey, I'm an XHTML 1.0 Transitional document," or whatever. So, if you have, say, an XHTML 1.0 Transitional DOCTYPE but your page is really still based on, say, HTML 4.01, browsers are more likely to screw up, since they're following the XHTML rules.

Now get cracking and fix all those validation errors. ;)

ANOTHER LEFT WING ASSASSIN ATTEMPTS TO KILL TRUMP
If I understand this, the left-wing Democrat assassin attempted to get into the White House Correspondents Association dinner, and was stopped at the magnetometers, which detected his gun. I guess he pulled out the gun and was shot by Secret Service agents.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.

Politico is reporting that multiple people have abruptly resigned from Eric Swalwell's gubernatorial campaign: "Members of senior leadership have departed the campaign, including Courtni Pugh, a strategic adviser who served as Swalwell's top liaison to organized labor groups."

So the campaign is collapsing due to the truth of the sexual harassment allegations.

Classic Rock Mystery Click
This is super-obscure and I only barely remember it. Given that, I'll give you the hint that it's by the Red Rocker.
And I guess you think you've got it made
Oh, but then, you never were afraid
Of anything that you've left behind
Oh, but it's alright with me now
'Cause I'll get back up somehow
And with a little luck, yes, I'm bound to win

Now twenty people will tell me it's not obscure, it was huge in their hometown and played at their prom. That's how it usually goes. When I linked Donnie Iris's "Love is Like a Rock," everyone said they knew that one and that his other song (which I didn't know at all) Ah Leah! was huge in their area.
