Star Trek "Most Missed" TV SeriesRespondants to the poll also report missing sunlight, human companionship not involving a keyboard and the alias "Stacey Staxxx," and the ever-diminishing possibility of ever touching a real life boobie (except by "accidently" brushing one with their elbow while boarding a train). posted by Ace at 04:49 PM
CommentsWHAT!?! The most missed series wasn't "Remington Steele?" Why that makes me angry. Posted by: Slublog on December 28, 2005 04:52 PM
Clearly Ace must have been one of the poll respondants. Posted by: Brett on December 28, 2005 05:01 PM
The older I get, the less I like Star Trek. Babylon 5 showed how good a well-written sci-fi series could be (and how lousy Deep Space 9 was in comparison); Battlestar Galactica raised the bar again. I find the problem with Trek to be its heavy-handed symbolism: the Federation is the UN, the Romulans are the Chinese, the Vulcans are the Japanese, the Klingons are the Russians, etc. etc. etc. The writers of the various series have apparently never heard of the term "subtle"; in fact, they tend to use the same four or five plotlines over and over (and over and over and over....) And aside from the original Trek series, the shows were so relentlessly P.C. and full of multiculti horseshit that I just couldn't take it any more. Also, the designers of Federation starships seem to have evolved from the same folks who design dentist's offices today -- boring. Posted by: Monty on December 28, 2005 05:04 PM
I thought the Vulcans were Jews. Maybe Zen Budhist Jews. It's understandable that ST is the most missed show though, because they keep taunting Trekkie and Trekker alike with all of these pseudo-trek knockoffs. They've done that to a lesser extent with The Twilight Zone, so I suppose it's probably the second most missed. Posted by: Dave Munger on December 28, 2005 05:30 PM
I miss Sledge Hammer! and, for that matter, 'The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd'. I gave up on ST-TNG when Wesley wasn't killed by the locals when he tossed a ball and broke a window pane. Also, the survival rate for Guys with Red Shirts was much higher in the latter series than it should have been. Posted by: BumperStickerist on December 28, 2005 05:31 PM
Sorry, Ace; I can't resist. The AoSHQ version of the Qur'an: Chapter 2. The Cow. (Untranslated) Hehehehehe. If I'm not killed, I'll be struck by lightning. Posted by: Muslihoon on December 28, 2005 05:37 PM
Ace, For those who truly love Star Trek, there is no missing it, for they live it. ... And this... 10. The A-Team WTF!?!? That's the tenth most missed show in the UK? I think that explains a lot. A.LOT. Just Sayin' Posted by: MeTooThen on December 28, 2005 05:44 PM

Babylon 5 showed how good a well-written sci-fi series could be (and how lousy Deep Space 9 was in comparison); Monty makes me laugh. Babylon 5 was so fucking godawful that it makes Star Trek look like Shakespeare. Posted by: Brett on December 28, 2005 05:58 PM
Brett-- Babylon 5 was so fucking godawful that it makes Star Trek look like Shakespeare. Homes, you just lucky you ain't standin' here. I'd have to go all Zarqawi on your ass. The worstBabylon 5 season (probably the last one) was still better by far than the best Trek season. Posted by: Monty on December 28, 2005 06:18 PM
Firefly, of course. Posted by: OregonMuse on December 28, 2005 06:35 PM
Yeah, Firefly for sure, but I really miss a series called Boomtown. I've got it on DVD but I wish they would bring it back. Posted by: Retired Geezer on December 28, 2005 07:16 PM
The worst B5 Season was the first one- where they secretly replaced the Commander with a plank of wood for the entire season. 2nd plus was great-you had Bruce Boxleitner- the Scarecrow as the Commander (captain in rank actually) And if someones only seen bits of the first season (missing the metaplot, maybe too much Delenn, not enough London & G'Kar) I can see the criticism. I skip over half the 1st season myself when I pop in the DVDs Posted by: HowardDevore on December 28, 2005 07:28 PM
Howie, you're on crack. The first season was just fine, and if it wasn't planned that the Commander would leave, it was several inventive plot twists that made it everything done in that season fit together just fine later on. Season 5 however, was totally nonsensical, contradictory, and boring. They took the one character that held all the various plots threads together like superglue - Ivanova - and disappeared her until the last episode. I could barely keep my skull from exploding over that boneheaded maneuver. Did I mention Claudia Christian is smokin' hot? Tracy Scoggins paled in comparison. Posted by: The Black Republican on December 28, 2005 07:58 PM
I don't buy it. The most missed T.V. show has to be either 'Crusade' (the B5 spinoff), 'Babylon 5' itself, or 'Firefly'. Unless of course, it's between seasons of BSG, in which case that would be the one. Why, yes. I do enjoy living at home. Why? ;) Posted by: AkRonin on December 28, 2005 08:08 PM
Homes, you just lucky you ain't standin' here. I'd have to go all Zarqawi on your ass. Bring it, princess. Babylon 5? Terrible writing that included a four-year story stretched out over a five-year run with expectedly disastrous results; mind-numblingly wooden characters played by astonishingly bad actors (for God's sake, Claudia Christian was so terrible that she couldn't even land the part of Seven Of Nine on Voyager -- she got beat out by Jeri Ryan -- and the less said about Mira Furlan and Bruce Boxleitner, the better); and a "plot" that was predictable to the point of inducing laughter when it wasn't inducing comas, culminating in the all-time worst, and worst-telegraphed, climax in all of television history (when the Vorlons and the Shadows just, um, left). And the mayonaisse on this colossal shit sandwich of a series was that the producers apparently thought it would be neater to have their CGI effects resemble CGI effects rather than, say, spaceships and what have you -- talk about insulting the intelligence of the viewer. Star Trek is hardly great television the way BSG is, but TNG and DS9 were orders of magnitude better shows than B5 in terms of stories, character, acting, and effects. Posted by: Brett on December 28, 2005 08:21 PM
Brett: BSG is, but TNG and DS9 were orders of magnitude better shows than B5 in terms of stories, character, acting, and effects. What in God's name did your parents do to you? Surely some dreadful trauma in your childhood could explain this twisted and bizarre mental state you have devolved into. TNG is the very worst of Trek: a multi-culti Democrat version of a galactic UN run by a bald Frenchman. No. Thank. You. Posted by: Monty on December 28, 2005 08:30 PM

Monty and Brett, LOL. Really. Actually, Laughed.Out.Loud. Thanks. Posted by: MeTooThen on December 29, 2005 10:54 AM
DS9 was the last great Trek series, as for the PC crap, it is waht really started to get on my nerves. What do you expect form a show born out of the 1960's. Now the New BSG, when that mini premeried in the SCIFI channel I knew Enterprise was finished. Those 4 hours were a highter caliber SF that Enterprise and Yoyager were combined. BSG is more relevant to our times and the GWOT than ENT was with the Xindi, that was ment to replace that abortion of a story line called the Temporal Cold War IN the second half od season 2 there is going to be two BSG episodes that tear the appeasers abd peaceniks a new rectum. That show just keeps getting better, Posted by: Gary on December 30, 2005 10:59 PM

Funniest thing I've read about the Virginia mess. Back when they were hustling the referendum through the assembly both Senators, Warner and Kaine, advised them to go slow and play by the rules. Louise Lucas said she respected them but didn't need advice from the "cuck chair" in the corner. The gerrymandering was overturned and Louise is heading for the big house. Edward G. Robinson voice "where's your cuck now?" I posted his post on twitter and it's gotten 25K views so far. Thanks, Smell the Glove Chris

"It's f**king f**ked."
-- reportedly a genuine comment offered by a "senior Labour source" Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held. Basil the Great
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.
Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing. Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult. Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending. (((Dan Hodges))) Nick Lowles
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98. Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years. Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45 Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%. I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens. REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs. Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:
![]() That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time. I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
