« C.S. Lewis Slammed... By Christians, For Being a Sun-Worshipping Cryptocatholic Paganist | Main | UPDATED: Anti-Muslim Race Riots Erupt In Sydney »
December 11, 2005

That MSNBC Ad in the Sidebar...

BlogAds warned me in advance that the ad would be changing, and gave me a similar ad to let me know that MSNBC was planning some blatantly-sexual advertising.

I wasn't really thrilled with the come-on nature of the ads, and the screaming slammer "PORN," but I figured it wasn't something likely to offend most readers here. In case you didn't click on the ad or read it closely, it's just an ad for an MSNBC report on online porn. (As if, you know, frequent internet users have something to learn on this score.)

I'm not sure why MSNBC did this, though. You don't really need to go too over-the-top to interest people in tittilating material... and it sort of reduces, I think, MSNBC's credibility. This is the biggest ad-buy in BlogAds history, and they've kind of sold their network with one of the more aggressively-prurient ads to run on political sites.

It's also odd that they didn't offer two alternate ad schemes -- one more restrained than the actual ad -- because I have to figure a lot of more socially-conservative sites rejected this add.

It's edgy, of course... Buzz Bunny edgy.

I would have sworn that you were going to say reduce's Porn's credibility to be on the same network as Chris Matthews.

When I see the word PORN and MSNBC, I think of Chris Matthews reading the news in the nude. No thanks.

Its about freaking Hef. I mean that's kinda porn, but not TeenAsianAnalCumSluts porn.

Posted by: Iblis on December 11, 2005 03:44 PM

Hmm? Sorry. What's this about porn again?

Posted by: Evil Otto on December 11, 2005 03:51 PM

I don't think MSNBC had much credibility to begin with.

Posted by: Blackjack on December 11, 2005 04:09 PM

it's EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEME!!!!!!!!

you guys got some crack?

Posted by: MacStansbury on December 11, 2005 04:15 PM

You know, I noticed the Porn ad and thought..."hmmm, weird..." but didn't even notice the msnbc thingy under "Porn Valley."

I rarely notice or read ads at all, but that one did stick out.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on December 11, 2005 04:42 PM

RWS: but that one did stick out.

It sure did, sparkle, it sure did.

I come here to read wholesome, family entertainment about Dick cheyney, and I'm subjected to this? I am outraged!

Posted by: abdul on December 11, 2005 05:35 PM

Nice to see Rick Kaplan executing Karl Rove's strategy to precision just like he did at CNN- bring down the organization from within.
It worked on me!- the 5 th time Imus called the President a "war criminal" , I deleted MSNBC from my remotes.
No finer feeling.

Posted by: jj shaka on December 11, 2005 06:03 PM

When I first saw it, I thought 'Ace might be into gay midget porn, but allowing porn advertising on his site??!'
Then I realized it was for an msnbc report.
I wonder if their tv ads for this report will be similar? Or do they think they can only get away with this on the internet...or perhaps this is part of an MSM campaign to further erode the legitimacy of internet blogs...a porn smear...
Sorry, pass the tinfoil...

Posted by: Uncle Jefe on December 11, 2005 06:09 PM

"Hey ladies it's not just for men anymore."

If it's not just for men anymore, don't you think the ladies would already know that?

Posted by: Art on December 11, 2005 06:36 PM

There are ads in the sidebar?

Posted by: Joan of Argghh! on December 11, 2005 08:01 PM

what's really odd is they basically stole the design for that ad from HBO's Real Sex show Pornucopia: Going Down in the Valley.

Posted by: jack on December 11, 2005 09:29 PM

Hmmmm, so msnbc wants me to click on a link advertising their program about internet pron, so they make an ad that looks like an internet pron come-on, not realising that most people on-line know better than to click a link like that because they will get infested with spy-ware and pop-ups, and if msnbc doesn't know even this much, why would I watch their show?

How come I had to spell it pron to get past your censors?

Posted by: B Moe on December 12, 2005 09:02 AM

First, good.

I'm glad some other blogger semi-complained about this, since my site, Sundries, is also hosting this ad for a week.

As for advanced warning, it must be an Ace of Spades special email, since I got bupkus prior to it.

It's also odd that they didn't offer two alternate ad schemes -- one more restrained than the actual ad -- because I have to figure a lot of more socially-conservative sites rejected this add.

I am too hungry for Blogad revenue and hits, to have declined it, but at least I would've been dressed better before going to the Hefner Mansion.

My bunny costume is at the dry cleaners.

Cheers,
Victoria

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
