Saddam Refuses To Appear At Own Trial

At least he had sound legal reasons for doing so:

On Tuesday, Hussein threatened not to return to court after five witnesses testified about brutalities they experienced during a government crackdown 23 years ago.

At the end of the nine-hour court session, Hussein complained that he and his seven co-defendants were tired and had been deprived of opportunities to shower, have a change of clothes, exercise or go for a smoke.

"I will not be in a court without justice. Go to hell, all you agents of America," Hussein told the court.

Give the bastard an OrbiTreck and a carton of Marlboros. Smoke 'em up, Johnny. The gallows await.

Have any of the moonbat-blogs started to defend Saddam yet?

Posted by: Bart on December 7, 2005 12:42 PM

I say let him go for a walk around the block in Baghdad.

Posted by: lauraw on December 7, 2005 12:43 PM

He's punkin this court just like the UN.

Why they don't have him on a leash and shackles is beyond me. Unfuckinbelievable.

Posted by: Gromulin on December 7, 2005 12:45 PM

Absolutely! A very short "walk" indeed thru Bagdad would work for me.

Posted by: Larry Nelson on December 7, 2005 12:52 PM

Brilliant!
I didnt' know "I don't feel like being here", was reason enough to skip your trial for mass murder.
And we thought Johnny Cochrane's passing would leave a vacuum.

"Go to hell, all you agents of America," Hussein told the court.

You first, Saddam.

"Have any of the moonbat-blogs started to defend Saddam yet?"

When did they stop?

OK, let's be fair. I haven't seen any that explicitly support the SOB. Yet. Given that the Left has, at one time or another, had the hots for Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, and Castro, a moonbat Saddam Hussein Fan Club is only a matter of time.

"Have any of the moonbat-blogs started to defend Saddam yet?"

Ramsey Clark is the Moonbat Matlock. That's got to count for something.

Posted by: abdul on December 7, 2005 01:43 PM

Saddam's a clever bastard. He knows that a conviction is basically a foregone conclusion, which means that he has nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying to bait the court into treating him harshly.

At the first sign of an opportunity to spin it, the American and European press will start prattling on about "kangaroo court" and "US puppet" crapola. That will be their way in -- due process.

This will be their opportunity to stroke themselves about how riteous and just and reasonable they are. The more monstrous that sensible people make Saddam out to be, the more virtuous they look. The Left is nothing if not vain and self-absorbed, after all.

Of course, underlying all of this will be a veiled but limitless admiration for totalitarian socialism, but what else is new?

Saddam Skipping Trial--So He Can Smoke?
http://ginacobb.typepad.com/gina_cobb/2005/12/saddam_skipping.html

Excerpt:

"Things should move along more smoothly now that Saddam Hussein has decided not to attend his own trial, according to an AP report.

"Good riddance. Hope he sticks with that decision.

"But now we know -- Saddam Hussein also smokes.

"That is pretty much the last straw."

But you left out the best line!
Or at the least, the line that made me have to clean my monitor afterwards...

"Saddam, dressed in a dark suit and white shirt and clutching a Quran, complained that he and the seven other defendants were tired and had been deprived of opportunities to shower, have a change of clothes, exercise or go for a smoke.

"This is terrorism," he declared"

Classic.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
