Letting A Smile Be Your Umbrella, And Other Ways To Get Yourself Dead

The peace group to which the four kidnapped westerners announces on its website:

CPT does not advocate the use of violent force to save lives of its workers should they be kidnapped, held hostage, or caught in the middle of a conflict situation.

In related news, my local 7-11 has a sign announcing, "Warning: Safe contains a hell of a lot more than $50, the cashier definitely does know the combination (and don't let her tell you otherwise!), and incidentally has a hell of a body on her to boot."

Or at least it used to have that sign. After every single item was looted from it, the place was bought for dimes on the dollar by a guy who put up this sign:

May not look like much, but at least he's still in business.

Via Instapundit, who has his own policy.

I'm sure the kidnapped westerners really appreciate this policy right about now. Hey, at least it alows them to put their pacifist ideology to the test!

Yeah, and they don't advocate the use of violent force to save the lives of Iraqis should they be kidnapped, held hostage, gassed, raped, dismembered, thrown into shredders, etc.

Brings to mind the excellent essay about sheep, wolves and sheepdogs.

A word to my friends: should it ever eventuate that I become the hostage of head-chopping zealots of whatever religious persuasion, I hereby give permission to bomb them right the fuck into the Great Beyond, or to have a SOG team take them out. If I happen to accidentally join them on their long journey to nowhere, that's a chance I'm willing to take.

If I happen to accidentally join them on their long journey to nowhere, that's a chance I'm willing to take.

And if I'm holding Monty's hand and cuddling with him when that happens, I'm OK with that.

We are angry because what has happened to our teammates is the result of the actions of the U.S. and U.K. governments due to the illegal attack on Iraq and the continuing occupation and oppression of its people.

No anger for the terrorists? Why am I not surprised.

Then there's this bit of irony about one of the captives.

Mr. Fox has been faithful in the observance of Quaker practice for 22 years. While in Iraq, he sought a more complete understanding of Islamic cultural richness.

Good luck with that.

You know, there's real evil and there's the make-believe "America is turning into a fascist state under Chimperor Bush "evil that leftists like to get all worked up about.

The sad thing is that they can't tell the difference even when one of their own is about to get a first-hand education on the difference.

This is the ultimate enabling behavior.

Back to Ace's post about the battered wife.

Hubby (terrorists) wouldn't beat me (peaceniks) if we just understood them, and made a f0cking pot roast every once in a goddamm while, WOULD THAT BE SO F0CKING HARD?

sorry, got off on a rant there.

Posted by: SENTINEL on November 30, 2005 05:48 AM

I'm reminded of a story about a group of anti-gun zealots who, to promote their belief, posted signs in the windows of their homes, reading: "THIS IS A GUN-FREE HOUSEHOLD". Within weeks, burglars had knocked them all off; and the signs disappeared.

This probably is an urban legend. But its lesson is cold, hard fact: if you bare your throat to a predator, nine times out of ten the predator will rip it out.

I'm with those guys. If the de-nogginizers get me use whatever means you have to. I'd rather go out laughing at the dead jihadi sucking air through a hole in his chest than on my knees blubbering on al-Jezeera.

These peaceniks will be returned unharmed after a ransom, I'm betting. I suspect they were swiped by run-of-the-mill thugs rather than bona fide jihadis.

These peaceniks will be returned unharmed after a ransom,

Interesting thought sponge... the MSM spin has been "insurgents are back to kidnapping".. assuming for the moment it is in fact an uptick,

I wonder if it's a fundraising drive?

Posted by: Dave in Texas on November 30, 2005 09:38 AM

So some lefty moonbats are kidnapped by a group no one has ever heard of before?

Hmmm... Anyone else smelling "staged" here?

Posted by: OregonMuse on November 30, 2005 09:57 AM

O.K. I'm being picayune here, but there's some loose shit in the subhead.

Belong, belongs in there somewhere, I think.

Posted by: right on November 30, 2005 10:26 AM

You know, I was going to say that these people were at least consistent, in that they went to help out after what they thought was a tragedy (the war), and weren't going to abandon their pacifist ways even when their own lives were at stake.

I was going to say that.

Now all I have is a bitter joke, a la Andrew Dice Clay:

Guy: "All I wanted was to seek a more complete understanding of Islamic cultural richnes!"
Jihadi: "You got the bonus plan, baby! OH!"

BIG NEWS UPDATE NOT FIRED

From her lawyer

"The irresponsible reports that have been published stating that Maria Bartiromo was fired or is no longer an employee of Fox are absolutely and unequivocally false," Freedman said Friday. "Make no mistake, we have the receipts and witnesses and they will come out whether through the courthouse or otherwise."

He added: "Those reporting her firing or the incredulous facts supporting that fiction have exhibited a complete and utter reckless disregard for the truth."

from anon2020
So what, she quit?
Megyn Kelly (accursed be her name) used to say all the time that Fox has a top female PR person who is a nasty pitbull and leaks nasty claims about anyone Fox is at war with, including those who have left the network. So I guess maybe she technically resigned? I don't know.
NEW: @FoxNews has obtained Lindsay Clancy defense attorney Kevin Reddington's appeal filing to the MA Supreme Court, which includes Reddington accusing the lone holdout juror of being "biased" against those with "debilitating mental illness", which he says is a protected category.

Holiday Break: I've had a rough couple of weeks -- the shoulder is healing now and I'm finally getting decent sleep -- and I've decided to take a long weekend.
I'm taking Friday off, and then Monday off, too.
I have Open Threads for both days and I will post if big news breaks, but if it doesn't -- and it probably won't, news is slow before a holiday weekend -- I'm going to take a four day weekend.

1977 interview shows that Barbara Walters has always been a seaward and Dolly Parton always had "country class"
Walters actually asks Dolly Parton if she knows that people think she's a joke. This because Walters can't get over the fact that a show-woman has 1, big breasts, and 2, dresses a bit outrageously because, get this, she's an entertainer. A stage performer. You know, someone people pay money to see live and expect them to put on a show.
She never would attack Liberace for wearing glitter-tuxedos. But she's mad that Dolly Parton makes Barbara Walters look bad through association (by being a woman). Babs, you wish people associated the two of you. Believe me, we can tell the difference.
