Bruce Willis To Make Pro-War Iraq Movie, Based On Reportage of Blogger/Journalist Michael YonUnfortunately, I've seen a leaked copy of the script, and the Hollywood executives have changed it so that Bruce Willis will no longer be fighting Muslim terrorists in Iraq. In the new story, terrorism in Iraq is due to European Neo-Nazis and American defense contractors who are creating a "fictitious war" to sell more munitions. Just kidding. But don't be surprised if the cost of getting this made is the insertion of a sympathetic "insurgent" who speechifies about the evil of American invading his sovereign country. Thanks to Bob B. posted by Ace at 01:20 PM
CommentsThe link to Michael Yon at the end of that article is not to be missed. That guy is an awesome journalist. Posted by: lauraw on November 27, 2005 01:41 PM
But don't be surprised if the cost of getting this made is the insertion of a sympathetic "insurgent" who speechifies about the evil of American invading his sovereign country. And hopefully, this "sympathetic insurgent" will be the guy who set off the bomb killing hundreds of children getting candy from marines. Might as well make it factual. I can't wait for this movie. If Willis makes this, I hope it does for him what The Passion did for Gibson: Piss off Hollywood and make a ton of money. Posted by: Iblis on November 27, 2005 02:09 PM
I want a movie that shows us for what we are: the good guys, doing good works. Damn! I'd go see it. Posted by: on November 27, 2005 02:31 PM
By "we" I mean our servicemen and women. I can't claim any credit. Posted by: on November 27, 2005 02:32 PM
It's an exciting prospect but everybody's jumping the gun. Willis has expressed interest but this project is years away from the cameras. It may never get there at all. If it does - and if Democrats don't manage to sabotage the war effort - the Iraq mission will already have succeeded. Willis' movie will be seen as a poet-war tribute to the heroes who made it possible. Posted by: lyle on November 27, 2005 04:34 PM
Willis has got stones. If he gets this made, he can kiss any chance of ever getting a Oscar nomination away. Part of the man's cool factor is that he really doesn't seem to give a shit what the rest of his industry thinks. Posted by: UGAdawg on November 27, 2005 04:48 PM
Obviously I meant post-war rather than poet-war, which would be rather dull... Unless of course it was a poet-war SLAM! Posted by: lyle on November 27, 2005 06:05 PM
Ace, did you see Bruce Willis's Tears of the Sun? In that one, the film makes it clear that Islamic hatred for Christians and Christianity is what is driving the genocide. There was no give in that film. If Bruce Willis has a hand in making Deuce Four, there'll be no Nazis and you can expect CAIR to come out howling about how we're making Muslims look bad. Yeah, right. I second lauraw's comment. Read Yon's post. Excellent stuff. Pity it's so late over here (midnight), or else i just might read every single post in his blog...Hope he puts it on book! PS: Since Yon mentioned it, i think it won't sound so bad if i do too. Is it just me, or are the wifes of those soldiers smoking hot? Damn them and their uniforms! Posted by: madne0 on November 27, 2005 07:00 PM
madneo, he does have a book out. Posted by: Sortelli on November 27, 2005 07:20 PM
Obviously I meant post-war rather than poet-war, which would be rather dull... Unless of course it was a poet-war SLAM! Which reminds me, didn't Ace promise to post poetry contest winners in the Loose Shit category? Did I miss that? Are we just going to have to relentless nag him until this gets done? Cuz, my Ode to Ogden Nash was bested by Monty in the Integrity category, and I have come to accept that judgment. I now realize that the Ode to Ogden Nash was actually a Loose Shit entry. Yeah, that's what I intended all along. Posted by: Michael on November 27, 2005 08:04 PM
This is a great, great story. Bottom line: at some point, the sense of missing out on a huge chunk of money (think Mel Gibson's flick) will overwhelm standard-issue Hollywood leftism, and studios will want a share of this. At least when someone else has taken the initiative, as here. Posted by: someone on November 27, 2005 08:37 PM
Jarhead sucked. Its so obvious that his book is a recollection of marine corp wivestales. The movie ratches this up a notch. Its supposedly about how awful it is for a warrior to be primed, but never to pull the trigger. Oh, or how he never shoulda been a marine. He can't decide. Ultimately, the movie really is about masterbation, not war. I would like to watch a war movie about warriors doing some warring. Give me Black Hawk Down meets Thunderrun. Honestly, all this hollywood shit about corporations and oil is so old. Nonetheless, the scary thing is is that there are no screenwriters that could write a gung ho, pro-American film. Maybe if Ace put down his 20 sided die and read Janes, he could get Willis' ear. Anyway, I am glad they are losing money on their anti-war-prop. Maybe they will wake up if (and when) a duece four movie is a hit. Posted by: joeindc44 on November 27, 2005 11:51 PM
welcome to the party, pal... Posted by: sgt john mcclane on November 28, 2005 03:51 AM
I think Willis has enough pull (money) to make this happen, and soon. A well directed, relatively low budget PRO US, PRO MILITARY, PRO IRAQ WAR would make a boatload of money. And Willis has been openly and actively supporting the troops throughout -- and not that "I support the troops, but..." bullshit. He would do a truely fair and accurate representation of the facts, which would inherently be PRO US. And if he does it, it would move him up from the just-a-half-step-above-B-Grade-movie-guy to full-fledged "action hero" in the John Wyane catagory, something I don't think we have really had since the Duke died. -- fret Posted by: fretless on November 28, 2005 10:45 AM
Btw, Foxx was the best part of Jarhead. I love this job. But I really want another Master and Commander. Give me a good pro-american movie and I will be there. Posted by: joeindc44 on November 28, 2005 10:20 PM
I'm in the 1-24 infantry, the unit that this movie is supposed to be about. I am good friends with michael yon, and have talked to him recently. If you have read his blogs, you would know that this movie would not only just include the fire fights that we've been in, but the good iraqi families that we have met, and that have taken us in to their homes... "It's f**king f**ked."
-- reportedly a genuine comment offered by a "senior Labour source" Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held. Basil the Great
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.
Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing. Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult. Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending. (((Dan Hodges))) Nick Lowles
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98. Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years. Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45 Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%. I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens. REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs. Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:
![]() That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time. I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
