| Atrios-Style Blogging Begins »
November 22, 2005
Has Anyone Ever Read Atrios' Blog?I never really have. I just did. It's, oh, what's the word?, really, really, very really bad. I don't even mean I dislike his politics. Of course I dislike his politics. But I mean -- it's just a bad blog. I feel this blog is very often very crappy. Some days I post a minimum of original content; other days I can only manage a couple of lame wisecracks. Sometimes I attempt some sort of commentary but quickly realize I'm just repeating myself. But... Atrios doesn't seem to sweat that. Check out this, um, economy of posting in the past couple of days: Open Thread That's a link to a HI-larious fake press release about "Peeholes Media," so called because the founders are said to "pee themselves" whenever someone who looks Muslim comes within thirty feet. Or thirty yards. Whatever, I'm sure the hell not going back to click on it to make sure. Peeholes Media? This is a link-worthy liberal humor piece? Now I get why Wonkette is at the top of the liberal humorist pack. Now we continue... with no edits. The next post follows the one above: Limbaugh: Murtha "Useful Idiot" No edits. No edits. I did not skip any substantive posts in that run. The top post of today is a three paragraph jobber, but it's just about his traffic, which is inside baseball crap. How many Open threads can this idiot open? In one spell he opens up, what, three of them in five posts? Now, I kind of get this. Believe me, I am not so blind that I don't get that a lot of my traffic is due to my commenters wanting to read... my commenters, and not so much me. People find an agreeable crew and want to post together. I've been lucky in that respect, more lucky than many more deserving bloggers. Let's just say that Atrios, though, who got something close to 200,000 pageviews yesterday, is especially blessed. The guy is getting a million hits a week from one word links and two or three open threads a day. I am more tempted than ever to start a liberal blog, just for the crazy blog money. This is the level of the competition? On the right side of the blogosphere are heavy hitters like LGF, Powerline, Malkin, Capt'n Ed, Belmont Club, etc. People I couldn't possibly hope to leap past. But on the left... it's Atrios and Kos. Atrios. Atrios of sixteen Open Threads a week, and substantive posts like "Why are we there?" and "Wanker of the Week: The Washington Post [End entry]." Getting paid for not working at all... well, I guess that is the liberal way. posted by Ace at 07:42 PM
CommentsI'd say this post could start a blog war, but come on. What kind of blog battles could you have against a guy who posts once a day? A flame war against this guy would take weeks. Posted by: Slublog on November 22, 2005 07:45 PM

Has Anyone Ever Read Atrios' Blog? Ummmmm......No? Posted by: enchilada on November 22, 2005 07:57 PM
Is this a hidden dig at Glenn Reynolds? Heh. Posted by: someone on November 22, 2005 08:02 PM
Never read the guy and now I don't have to. Thanks. I am not so blind that I don't get that a lot of my traffic is due to my commenters wanting to read... my commenters, and not so much me. I wouldn't sell yourself short. It sounds a little sycophantic to point out a host's importance to the party he throws 24/7 (and, frankly, most of the metaphors I came up with sounded maybe a tad gay), but this blog would obviously take a dive if you decided to. Let's just say you are the beef in the stew. But, you know, say it like Vikings. Posted by: VRWC Agent on November 22, 2005 08:24 PM
Ace, post the page view times! Post theirs and post yours. It's incredible, and *THAT* should be factored into the blog buck figures. Last time I checked Kos was at 4 seconds. You averaged 4 minutes. That's fookin incredible. Posted by: rd on November 22, 2005 08:26 PM
I do so love the word "incredible" today. Apparently. Posted by: on November 22, 2005 08:27 PM
It's worse even than this. His fans held an EschaCon, where they met up and played softball and drank spritzers and talked about universal healthcare and then each went back to his or her room and whacked off like randy chimps, most likely. Posted by: Jeff G on November 22, 2005 08:37 PM

His fans held an EschaCon, where they met up and played softball and drank spritzers and talked about universal healthcare and then each went back to his or her room and whacked off like randy chimps, most likely. Right. And what you got planned tonight, Chief? Posted by: ace on November 22, 2005 08:38 PM
Right. And what you got planned tonight, Chief? Probably about the same, but with to a mirror. Posted by: Slublog on November 22, 2005 08:40 PM
"with to a mirror" Cripes, what a retard. I meant "to a mirror" of course. Amazing how those glasses just have...that effect...on people. Posted by: Slublog on November 22, 2005 08:41 PM
Just longged back onto your site and was wondering... What.The.Fuck. Then fot down to this post and fingered it out... still I aks... What.The.Fuck? Posted by: Madfish Willie on November 22, 2005 08:48 PM
Something is missing. I know. It's the nifty little signature quotes the Lefties like so much. "The terrorists are always looking for ways to hurt our country and so are we" "Those who give up a little freedom for security deserve neither." "Yeeeearrrrrrgghh!" Posted by: Bart on November 22, 2005 09:06 PM
There really is no decent humor on the leftwing, is there? Is there any leftwing equivalent to Ace, Goldstein, Laurence Simon, Wizbang? Any leftwing version of puppy blending? (Yes, but they apply it George Bush and insist it's really real.) And yet it sometimes seems that an awful lot (yes, awful in both meanings) of people who make their living as comedians are lefties. Posted by: Ira on November 22, 2005 09:26 PM
Stupid rightwingers. Thinking that you owe your readership posts of "substance" that consist of more than a couple of phrases that link to poopoo "political" humor sites. Don't you know the real power comes from calling Bush "the Chimpler in Chief -- Not!!!" three hundred times in the same comment thread? (Shakes head sadly.) You'll never be an Eschatard. You'll never know the ecstasy of having a hundred thousand flowers of stupidity agreeing (78% from the same IP address using different pseudonyms) with you on Haloscan. Posted by: Andrea Harris on November 22, 2005 09:31 PM
That was easy for me to say... Posted by: Madfish Willie on November 22, 2005 09:52 PM
You're the straw that stirs the drink! See? Why couldn't I think of that? That's not gay at all! Oh, wait. Posted by: VRWC Agent on November 22, 2005 11:12 PM
Right. And what you got planned tonight, Chief? Gonna spend some time with myself poring over them Eschacon photos and conjuring up an elaborate fantasy in which I convert some progressive honey to the dark side by repeating "Bush" over and over and over again until she just can't stand wearing her sundress any longer. I'm sorry, what now? Posted by: Jeff G on November 23, 2005 12:19 AM
Man, sometimes you step away and come back to wonder: what the heck the running joke is. Ok, Atrios bad. This is his style, dig it. bad. What is sort of sad is that peoplescube and blamebush do this stuff so much better than the sites you guys mentioned. I haven't gone swamp diving, so I dunno, but I figured there was some "funny" lefty who made fun of us rightwingers as gunloving god nuts. But IMAO did it best with his home for the holidays with the unibomber special. They are insane. They have an alternate universe where saying 2000 dead or 57% over and over again is an argument. They don't think like us and we have to accept that. Posted by: joeindc44 on November 23, 2005 02:24 AM
Maybe what Atrios thinks only takes him four seconds to write - and three of those seconds are overhead, not actual thinking. Must be a lovely little world to live in... Posted by: Nightfly on November 23, 2005 12:56 PM
I like to post there now and then. It's fun to get them all worked up about inconvenient facts that disrupt their worldview. Posted by: TallDave on November 23, 2005 02:34 PM
I find Atrios to be mostly lacking any real content. What is the point of his site? It seems to be about nothing at all except hate-filled one liners... Posted by: Michael Pusatera on November 23, 2005 03:36 PM
"Last time I checked Kos was at 4 seconds. You averaged 4 minutes. That's fookin incredible." You know that IS pretty lame, my tiny blog with an average daily unique hit count of about 70/day has an average of 4 secs and 1.1 page views? Quality over Quantity! LOL Posted by: Dan Kauffman on November 23, 2005 10:07 PM
At Atrios and Kos, it's not a matter of posting something coherrent but, rather, "being part of the experience". Posted by: Sharpshooter on November 29, 2005 08:57 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
