Mary Mapes, Deranged RetardDon't pick a fight with a deranged retard. When enranged, they gain the strenght of twenty men, and come at you with full retard-strength fury, a cyclone of elbows and teeth and brightly-colored mismatched sneakers. Omaha, Neb.: In Appendix 4 of the Independent Review Panel, Peter Tytell, a widely acknowledged typewriter and document examination expert concluded that "the Killian documents were generated on a computer" and that they "were not produced on a typewriter in the 1970s and therefore not authentic." Given his indisputable expertise, wouldn't this end the debate as to whether or not they were forgeries? Note that these documant analysts who support the authenticity of the documents are not named. One thing I thought was pretty funny was that, while Mary Mapes was blasting bloggers for casting doubt on the documents, she was more than happy to cite left wing bloggers making the (specious) case the documents were real. She didn't call them bloggers, though; she called them "experts." I don't know if she's found real experts to authenticate these documents -- I pretty much doubt it -- so I'm guessing she's still relying on ultrapartisan lefty blogger "experts" as proof of the documents' authenticity. Kinda funny. Bloggers are partisan and not to be trusted, unless they agree with you. Then they're the Gold Standard. Are you gonna trust Mary Mapes, or your own lyin' eyes?
I don't understand why the MSM, when questioning her, simply doesn't put that .gif up and ask her to explain it. Oh, wait, I do. First, it came from a partisan political operative, and second, the evidence is just too damning. They question her with some amount of toughness, but, at the end of the day, they want to leave the question open. Putting that graphic up simply closes the "debate" completely, and even Mapes' skeptics want to keep hope alive. Journalism Is The First Draft of History, Book Deals Are the Baldfaced Lies of History Update: One of the document authenticators Mapes employed -- and then completely ignored -- calls Mapes on her various lies, ommissions, and distortions. Best bit: A dog-ate-my-homework moment. Emily Will sent Mapes a .pdf file outlining her concerns and doubts about the documents, but Mapes claimed she couldn't open the file. Another woman the file was sent to said she had no problem opening it. Mapes read that goddamned file. She just wanted to feign ignorance, so she could tell her higher-ups that "experts agree this is authentic." Thanks to Bart. posted by Ace at 03:27 PM
CommentsHere's a link to Emily Will's site that exposes the lies in Mapes' book. Posted by: Bart on November 11, 2005 03:39 PM
Even if I didn't have Acrobat Reader installed on my computer (yeah, right), if I'm a TV producer making a show that attacks the President of the United States, might I not ask the person who is reviewing my work to fax the document to me, or can I not be bothered to even waddle my sorry ass over to the fax machine? This is just plain horsehit. Posted by: The Colossus on November 11, 2005 04:11 PM
I saw the video of her with Wolf "If you've got a more Teutonic name I'd love to hear it" Blitzer and Kurtz. It was like watching somebody swear up and down that the sky was mostly made of cornstarch. Posted by: tachyonshuggy on November 11, 2005 04:17 PM
Just saw Mapes on Cavuto... WOW. This woman is a nut. She looks like a nut... you could tell it took every fiber of her being to refrain from exploding into a fit of paranoid leftist ranting. She wouldn't answer any questions that Neil asked her, and kept lecturing him on how she knew soooo much about the story that he didn't, without ever saying what the hell she was talking about. Bundles of fun. Posted by: Dave S on November 11, 2005 04:24 PM
Excuse me, but are you still fighting the Vietnam War? Or the last presidential election? Either way, I'm pretty sure they are over now. You know, when so many people got some help to stay out of the war in Vietnam, I think it's so remarkable that George Bush just fulfilled his responsibility instead of using his family influence. And I'm sure eventually someone will turn up who remembers serving with him. Eventually. Posted by: tubino on November 11, 2005 04:26 PM
Bush and I were Lieutenants (Fellow Pilot Comes to Bush's Defense)
'Bush and I were lieutenants' George Bush and I were lieutenants and pilots in the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS), Texas Air National Guard (ANG) from 1970 to 1971. We had the same flight and squadron commanders (Maj. William Harris and Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, both now deceased). While we were not part of the same social circle outside the base, we were in the same fraternity of fighter pilots, and proudly wore the same squadron patch. I'm with Dave. During all the hoo-ha we never got to see what she looked like, and so I assumed she must be some kind of cast-iron bitch on wheels, who was able to intimidate any of the CBS management, and make them think twice about raising objections to her story. Now that I've seen her it's obvious to any layman she's cat-lady brand crazycakes, and hardly an intimidating personality. Makes me question CBS's judgement even more. Yep, I'm still a major league douchebag. But I'm sure I'll get a few of you rightwingnuts to respond to my lies and outlandish statements. Posted by: Toobeano on November 11, 2005 04:44 PM
You forgot another danger of fighting retards--like babies, they are for some reason always sticky. Ew. Posted by: Tom on November 11, 2005 04:49 PM
Hah. You people still debating ancient history? Still stuck in the past? Whatever. Everyone knows Bush stole the election anyway. Posted by: very small tube on November 11, 2005 04:53 PM
Tubino, someone already DID respond to your "lies and outlandish statements" by linking to an article in which one of Bush's fellow guardsmen DID vouch for him. Or are you going to now raise the bar, as is the common tactic, and claim that you didn't really mean that you wanted a witness, but, rather, that you wanted x number of witnesses? Furthermore, it is fairly common knowledge to anyone who actually pays attention that Bush actually requested to be placed in a program that sent pilots like himself to Vietnam, but was turned down because he didn't have enough flight hours. In short, I'm not really sure what you're getting at, nor do you, I suspect. Merely insinuating that there, beneath the surface, exists a genuinely profound and important question will not suffice. I've sworn never to respond directly to Bean-O again in my lifetime, so can some kind soul please do me a favor: give Bean-O a shot to the nuts and mock him while he's lying writhing in pain on the ground. As Kramer would say: do me a solid! Posted by: Monty on November 11, 2005 04:59 PM
Everyone knows Bush stole the election anyway. True dat. It sort of annoys me, though, the way Bush only selectively steals elections. I mean, the election a couple of days ago that was a bad sign for the Republicans (as the media has informed me) would have been a great opportunity for a whole slate of election steals. I'm a little disappointed that the passed this opportunity. Or maybe they are only accused of stealing the ones that they win, when, in reality, they don't really steal them. Who knows... I'm so confused now. Posted by: Dave S on November 11, 2005 05:02 PM
Monty, it is defending forgeries that are so laughably obvious, they might as well have been written in red crayola. Posted by: lauraw on November 11, 2005 05:04 PM
Uhm...maybe you all should get a life? That whole thing was years ago. Its kind of pathetic, how you people just can't let go of the past. BTW, Clinton was framed. Posted by: very small tube on November 11, 2005 05:07 PM
I think the reason we never saw her during Rathergate was BECAUSE she comes across as a complete loon. It would not have done CBS's credibility any good at the time to have allowed her to defend the memos on TV. Now that she's a free agent with a book we're seeing her because it's in EVERYBODY's interest (her, her publisher, talking heads show producers) to get her onscreen and talking. And let's face it: her dogged failure to employ any degree of rationality during Rathergate is what will sell the book to the other crazy people. Talk about the "Fake but accurate" crazy mindset: The DUmmies, many of them, have avatars of Fitz accompanying their profiles. When do you figure they're going to turn on Fitz? I give it a few more weeks until they label Fitz as a Rethuglican patsy. Oh, and they're so "upset and distraught" over the atrocities commited globally by Bush thugs. Yet they never mention any other atrocities. Don't they care about Tibet and Rwanda, anymore? What about Tibet? What about the guy who makes all those nifty cool Free Tibet bumper stickers? He's got to make a living too, you know. P.S. Anyone who responds to the Asshole Who Shall Not Be Named will receive a swift and painful ass-reaming by me. You've been warned. And S. "Emily Will sent Mapes a .pdf file outlining her concerns and doubts about the documents, but Mapes claimed she couldn't open the file. ....Mapes read that g** file" I dunno, is she evil or just plain dumb? How smart do you have to be to get a management position in a field where facts and logic don't seem to matter? Posted by: Chuck on November 11, 2005 10:08 PM
She couldn't open the one file that would have prevented the memos from being used??? How convenient. And how deliciously ironic that acknowledging that file would have also saved her job. Lame ass excuses like that got me in trouble when I was, like, age 10. Chuck, apparently if your politics are 'correct,' you don'e even have to be much of a grownup to run in those circles. The clues are there which companies are favored and which are disfavored, market domination being one clue, but they conceal it very hard because it is so crucial. I offer an example of historical proportions::: Media ridicule and lawsuits are creations to reinforce people's belief that Walmart is evil in a subsegment of the indistry dominated by the middle and lower classes. The middle class is being deceived. They are being misled into the unfavored, and subsequently will have no assistance from their purchases with corporate america. I believe the coining of the term "Uncle Sam" was a clue alluding to just this::Sam Walton and WalMart is one of few saviors of the peasant class.

Oh no! Hamas' de facto press agent at the UN complains that she can't use her credit cards or rent a card now that she's been sanctioned as a terrorist operative
Why does this keep happening to members of the "political organization" (per Tucker Carlson) of Hamas?!?!
Tucker Carlson claims that it's weird that Ted Cruz is interested in the massacre of Christians by Nigerian Muslims, because he has "no track record of being interested in Christians," then blows off the massacre of Christians by Nigerian Muslims, saying it might or might not be a real concern
Tucker Carlson enjoys using the left-wing tactic of "Tactical Ignorance" to avoid taking positions on topics. Is Hamas really a terrorist organization? Tucker can't say. He hasn't looked into it enough, but "it seems like a political organization to me." Are Muslims slaughtering Christians in Nigeria? Again, Tucker just doesn't know. He hasn't examined the evidence yet. He knows every Palestinian Christian who said he was blocked from visiting holy sites in Bethlehem, but he just hasn't had the time to look into the mass slaughter of Christians in Nigeria that has been going on since (checks watch) 2009. He doesn't know, so he can't offer an opinion. Wouldn't be prudent, you know? Don't rush him! He'll sift through the evidence at some point in the future and render an opinion sometime around 2044. Of course, if you need an opinion on Jewish Perfidy, he has all the facts at his fingertips and can give you a fully informed opinion pronto. Say, have you ever heard of the USS Liberty incident...? You'd think that the main issue for Tucker Carlson, who pretends to be so deeply concerned about Palestinian Christians being bullied by Jews in Israel (supposedly), would be the massacre of 185,000 Christians in Nigeria itself. But no, his main problem is that Ted Cruz is talking about it, "who has no track record of being interested in Christians at all." And then he just shrugs as to whether this is even a real issue or not. Whatever we do we must never "divide the right," huh? Tucker is attacking Ted Cruz for bringing the issue up because he's acting as an apologist for Jihadism, and he can't cleanly admit that Jihadists are killing any Christians, anywhere. There is no daylight between him and CAIR at this point. One might conclude that Tucker Carlson himself isn't interested in the plight of Christians -- except as they can be used as a cudgel to attack Jews. Just gonna ask an Interesting Question myself -- why is it that Tucker Carlson's arguments all track with those shit out by Qatarian propaganda agents and the far left? That if Jews crush an ant underfoot it is worldwide news, but when Muslims slaughter Christians it elicits not even a vigorous shrug?
Garth Merenghi is interviewed by the only man who can fathom his ineffable brilliance -- Garth Merenghi
From the comments: I once glimpsed Garth in the penumbra betwixt my wake and sleep. He was in my dream, standing afar, not looking my way, nor did he acknowledge me. But I felt seen. And that's when I knew I was a traveler on the right path. I'm glad he's still with us. Now that's some Merenghian prose. Garth Merenghi on the writer's craft Greetings, Traveler. If you still have not experienced Garth Merenghi -- Author, Dream-weaver, Visionary, plus Actor -- the six episodes of his Darkplace are still available on YouTube and supposedly upscaled to HD. (Viewing it now, it doesn't appeared upscaled for shit.) I think the second episode, "Hell Hath Fury," is the best by a good margin. Try to at least watch through to that one. It's Mereghi's incisive but nuanced take on sexism.
Update on Scott Adams:
Scott Adams had approval for this cancer drug but they hadn't scheduled him to get it. He was taking a turn for the worse. Trump had told him to call if he needed anything, so he did. Talked to Don Jr (who is in Africa) , then RFK Jr, then Dr Oz. Someone talked to Kaiser and he was scheduled. Shouldn't have needed it but he did and he says it saved his life.

Schmoll: 53% of New Jersey likely voters say their neighbors are voting for Ciattarelli, while 47% say the cheater/grifter Mikie Sherrill
The "who do you think your neighbors are voting for" question is designed to avoid the Shy Tory problem, wherein conservative people lie to schmollsters because they don't want to go on record with a likely left-winger telling them who they're really voting for. So instead the question is who do you think your neighbors are voting for, so people can talk about who they themselves support without actually having to admit it to a left-wing rando stranger recording their answers on the phone.

Interesting football history: How the forward pass was created in response to the nineteen -- 19! -- people killed playing football in 1905 alone
The original rules of football did not allow forward passes. The ball was primarily advanced by running, with blockers forming lines with interlocked arms and just smashing into the similarly-interlocked defensive lines. It was basically Greek hoplite spear formations but with a semi-spherical ball. As calls to ban the sport entirely grew, some looked for ways to de-emphasize mass charges as the primary means of advancing the ball, and some specifically championed allowing a passer to throw the ball forward.
