N.Y. Times' Judith Miller Out of Jail

Judith Miller, jailed since July on contempt of court charges for refusing to divulge conversations with 'confidential sources' in the Valerie Plame matter, was scheduled for release late next month.

She got out today.

What changed? Well the article doesn't come right out and say it, but presumably she's decided to talk to the Grand Jury. What the article does mention:

[Miller] was released after she had a telephone conversation with the Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, sources said. In that conversation, Libby reaffirmed that he had released Miller from a promise of confidentiality more than a year ago, sources said.

So it sounds like she got the 'no for real, really, you can talk' super-release she wanted from her source, which now looks like Scooter Libby.

This apparantly ends the speculation she was covering up for another media source, Plame herself or even Plame's husband, ex-diplomat, puffy blowhard, Joseph Wilson.

I'm sure we're setting sail for a whole new world of stories as to why it took this long to get the release straightened out, (What, did Miller lose his number? Some burly jailhouse Brenda been hoggin the phone since July?) and even more "Plame Game" rehashes. Bring a pillow.

Update: A link not requiring registration confirms she will testify Friday.

They could make a horror-movie villain out of this f'n story--it just refuses to die.

Tin Foil Hat Time:

-Sheehan Getting Arrested
-Delay's Indictment
-Miller to Talk

All leading up to anti Repub firestorm in media pre-O'Conner replacement nomination.

Of course, since Rove is a Republican, that porbably isn't it or it won't work (or both...)

Also, if I remember correctly, the grand jury was due to dismiss soon (oct. 1, I think), so they would have had to release her anyway.

Posted by: Steve L. on September 29, 2005 10:06 PM

GJ was set end Oct. 28. Fitzgerald could have pressed for extension, but probably wouldn't have.

Posted by: Dr. Reo Symes on September 29, 2005 10:14 PM

Sounds like a whole bunch of bullshit to me...

Libby: "Sure, I'll waive confidentiality"

Months go by...

Libby: "YES, I will waive confidentiality"

Much, much later...

Libby: "YOU STUPID F'ING BITCH, for the last F'ING TIME, I WAIVE. MY. CON. FID. EN.TIAL. ITY! Don't EVER call me AGAIN!"

Posted by: Dogstar on September 29, 2005 11:51 PM

Maybe I'm on the slow side, or maybe it's these darn vodka Martinis. Someone help me out. Is this good for Rove, or Bad, or no way to tell?

Posted by: Log Cabin on September 30, 2005 01:27 AM

I think it's good for Rove, it's always good for Rove.

It'll take a couple of days for the DU crowd to figure out how f***ed they are. Karl's not going anywhere.

Now for Libby, maybe not so good. As Michael Brown found out, we sometimes need a sacrificial goat.

Judy miller is not called kneepads for nothing. She loves the GOP - long time. This is all a dog and pony show for wingers - sniff at your enjoyment.

Yeah we don't get a lot of practice speaking moonbat here.

There's so much more here than meets the eye. I can't see how anybody on either side could be spiking the ball and wagging their asses in the end zone. The Left has been on slow boil and they're just waiting for indictments so they can be shed of Sith Lord Rove and crow about it. But anybody who knows much about this will tell you it's getting more and more unlikely Lord Rove is The Guy.

They'll settle for Libby and pretend it's some big gotcha, but at this point they'll be damn lucky to collect even that scalp.

Some burly jailhouse Brenda been hoggin the phone since July?

Oh, yeah. Sure. The Stephanies, Tiffanys and Ambers get to be strippers, but Brenda has to be a burly jailhouse person?! Phooey on that.

And, maybe Miller just really, really liked her buddies in jail, and that's what took her so long to opt out. She had a free Get Into Jail card, after all.

If it's any consolation, "Jailhouse Brenda" was originally a "Brandon", if you know what I mean...

Dave in Texas:
Thanks! I was able to re-calibrate my translator based on the sample you provided. It means "This is all a Rove-Halliburton plot to personally destroy the critics of Chimpy McBusHitler, and Judy Miller is a mole in the NYT."

Posted by: Mikey on September 30, 2005 12:32 PM

Why should this end speculation that she was covering up for another source?

Doesn't it make as much sense that she decided to make something up to protect her true source? Or, perhaps she had nothing better to do the last few months than get her Star on the Journalists Walk of Fame.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is that she's telling the truth.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
