Open ThreadOkay, this is taking longer than I thought. Especially because I just finished, saved it, and then suddenly I had only a partial draft from two hours ago, and now I have to rewrite the thing. Stupid Moveable Type. So, for now, an open thread. Sorry, I want to finish this stupid thing as soon as I can. posted by Ace at 02:02 PM
CommentsJust start writing them offline in a text editor, then do a quick cut and paste. That way, you have an offline archive of each post in a small text file. I use a good text/HTML editor (BBEdit), and it's much more powerful and stable than MT or the other blogging software, apparently. Posted by: cirby on September 23, 2005 02:06 PM
Watch out, Ace. With all this hype, you're going to create some unrealistic expectations. Although, you could just pull a Markos and cite Hurricane Rita as the reason there's no post... Posted by: pmm on September 23, 2005 02:06 PM
Ace-- something to tide you over? A little warporn, perhaps? Cheers, Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on September 23, 2005 02:15 PM
Ditto cirby's post. Composing in an HTML textarea is daft for longer than a few sentences because Web browsers are insane. Posted by: rho on September 23, 2005 02:26 PM
Get this. I happened to scan the BlogAds off to the side there the other day and noticed one offering pet insurance. I happen to have been meaning to look into this so I click on it and end up purchasing insurance for my two dogs. In other words, advertising on blogs actually works. Hey, I'm as shocked as anyone but there you go. Posted by: planetmoron on September 23, 2005 02:28 PM

Burk plans to protest new NHL ad campaign The NHL's new advertising campaign is getting attention, but not the kind it was likely hoping for. According to a report from The Canadian Press, Martha Burk, the chair of the National Council of Women's Organizations, said she intends to write letters of protest to the NHL and NBC over the NHL's new ad campaign, which is set to begin next week. The first spot, titled "It's Time," shows a player (an actor, not an NHL player) in a locker room, surrounded by candles and accompanied by a woman who ceremoniously helps him don his hockey garb. The ads feature quotes from Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" along with dramatic camera work and music reminiscent of the film "Braveheart." Burk told The Canadian Press that the ad is "offensive on many levels." "The woman is dressed provocatively and when she asks the player if he's ready, it's a double-entendre in my view," Burk told The CP. "She's in the ad as a groomer, a sex object. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2170199 Posted by: on September 23, 2005 03:07 PM

I like the $200,000 cash idea. That spreads the largess around the nation a lot more because a lot of them wouldn't come back. Posted by: Tony on September 23, 2005 03:19 PM
offering pet insurance Is there an arbitrage possibility here? Like picking up strays, insuring them, then selling them to the local chinese restaurant, then collecting on the insurance? You know...kinda like insuring up hobos then offing them in dumpster fires? Posted by: Tony on September 23, 2005 03:44 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
