Mary Landrieu, Punching Bag

John From Wuzzadem slaps her around nicely.

To repeat: This woman does not understand the concepts of "before the hurricane" and "after the hurricane."

Someone, S. Weasel I think, made a point I had wanted to make too. It was quite clear that Mary Landrieu was entirely unprepared for this line of questioning about the buses. If she had been prepared, she might have claimed, as Nagin did, that it was hard to get bus drivers to do their jobs in the middle of a hurricane. Sure, that was a dodge too, as I imagine there should be no problem getting them to drive before a hurricane, but at least he had an answer.

Mary Landrieu was flat-footed and shocked by the question. Hence she simply continued to repeat "those buses are clearly flooded out, as you can see from the picture," pretending not to understand Wallace was asking her about using them before they were flooded.

And this just goes to prove media bias. The woman had never been asked the question before by any reporter, anywhere, at any time. If she had been asked about, she might have stumbled the first time, but she'd have had a better answer for Wallace.

So, while David Gregory and the rest of the lefty jagoffs continue to press the Bush Administration with questions, they simply never even think to ask a tough question to any Democratic politician. The "tough questions" they pose are along the lines of, "Do you think it was a mistake to rely upon the incompetent, out-of-touch, and racist Bush Adminstration for help?"

This has its benefits, as has been pointed out before. Conservatives know they're in for a whacking, and they're prepared. Liberals never are, becuase they're so completely coccooned and protected by the liberal media... until that wall of silence is breached.

But let's not kid ourselves; having the major media in your back pocket is a big advantage, and the occasional deer-in-the-headlights moment with a liberal politician doesn't make up for that fact. (Especially since the major media will simply not replay or even report on such embarassing performances.)

Jim Pinkerton makes just that case: the Old Media is wounded, but, like a tiger, it's most dangerous when it's wounded. It's lashing out hard, hoping to take as many of its enemies (i.e., Republicans) with it before it goes.

You're right, I don't think she was prepared for any questions that challenged her in any way, and she seemed to be shocked that Chris Wallace (who's my f'ing hero for repeating "Incompetent and insulting" over and over again) would do anything other than kiss her ass.

Not being prepared for the bus question was bad enough, but did she really believe that no one on Fox would mention the WaPo piece pointing out her own "Pork Port" hijinks?

That's what pushed her over the edge.

I loved the fact that Vitter was in Houston visiting refugees and Landrieu was in Washington. john, you did a good job pointing that out in your "transcript."

Had Landrieu been in Baton Rouge when she was interviewed, I could have written off her confusion as fatigue. Instead, she was in her nice warm bed in Washington and had no excuse for her answers. She was caught off guard by being asked hard questions and she wasn't able to "spin" on her feet. Her staff is as much to blame. They should have prepped her better.

Jane, I mean, Ace, you ignorant ___!

How could you say the Republicans are prepared for the media onslaught? Time and after time, they know the MSM is coming after them and time after time they come across as bumbling, fumbling off message fools.

For example, how long did it take anyone in the Administration to point out that local and state officials are, by law, charged with being first on the scene and the FEMA, be design, comes in second? how long did it take them to point out that they did have the Navy and other military forces ready to go? How long did it take them to point out that, again by law, they had to wait for Blanco to make a request for federal troops (that, according to the video, she didn't make right off the bat)?

This isn't to say that the Admin did all right... but they didn't do as bad as they let themselves get portrayed as doing.

> This isn't to say that the Admin did all right... but they didn't do as bad as they let themselves get portrayed as doing.

My hope (though it may be in vain) is that the administration deliberately takes punches for the sake of letting people judge for themselves. How many episodes of, say, Phil Donahue or Jerry Springer did it take before you realized the game was rigged in favor of the bad guys?

I suspect Bush is counting on several factors, one of which is that a "critical mass" of people will be unable to avoid concluding that the media is deliberately omitting relevant questions, and framing its chosen questions in the most theatrical possible way, and those people will draw further conclusions from that.

Other factors will be longer-term consequences of his decisions: will democracy work in Iraq? Will the hijinks of Louisiana/NO authorities come to light? I'm not a "Bush can do no wrong" kind of guy -- among other things, at this point I have serious doubts about whether the "smaller government" shoe is going to drop while he's in office -- but I do take solace now and then from this article.

I think that you ar perfectly correct. She was not at all prepered for the questionaire. Afterall every one is going through such an agony that it is very much possible for the people to ignore everything else and concentrate to survive.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
