OK, I don't get it. If the guy on the roof were white, then the joke would make sense, but given the resolution of the picture I can't tell what his race is. My first impression is the guy seems to have darker complexion in his face, medium complexion on his legs, and a possible afro haircut, so I initially though he was probably at least partially black.

Whoever scaled the picture really screwed it up, giving it a major case of the jaggies...

OK, if you say so. I knew a guy in college that was half-Italian and half-black, and he looked a lot like the guy on the roof. His complexion was much lighter than you'd expect, but his hair was almost completely like a black person's hair. Perhaps knowing this guy caused me to be the one person to not get the joke right away.

Well, that part is true ...

The stupid thing about the Moore quote is that he adopts this whole sarcastic "of course it had nothing to do with race" tone while laying out reason after reason that it has to do with poverty. He takes what could have a legitimate complaint, that when calling for a mandatory evacuation the plight of the poor was not taken into account, and turns it into typical bullshit race baing.

Of course, the poverty line isn't too promising if you're more concerned with finding answers and solutions than politically damaging Bush, as I have yet to hear any substantive claims that it was known in advance many poor did not have the means to get out, that the local authorities could not handle this, that the feds were notified of this, and that Bush chose to do nothing.

What's really stupid about this is that two thirds (67%) of New Orleans' population is -- was -- black. 80% of the population was about to evacuate. In the footage I saw of the survivors, I'd say about 1/4 to 1/3 of them were white or hispanic, and not all of those were tourists. So I'd say that the percentage of black people who fled New Orleans with the other voluntary evacuees was probably the same percentage as those left in the city -- and those in the entire population as a whole. In other words, about two-thirds of the people who got out were black. Or I guess they're honorary white people now?

Sigh. "0% of the population was about to evacuate." That word should be able. I don't know what's wrong with me. I will apply more coffee to the affected area.

And that percentage should be 80%. Hurry up with that coffee!
