CNN Questions The Timing

Cafferty and Blitzer both suspect that Bush's tour of the damage and the massive influx of relief were timed together for political advantage.

Here's the thing: It wasn't a coincidence. But the Angry Left has been demanding purely symbolic gestures by Bush for five days now-- cutting his "vacation" short, visiting the damaged areas, etc.

When he accedes to their demands for feel-good symbolism, they then claw him for doing so.

Pick an f'n' story and stick to it, guys.

Bush was quite capable of directing (to the extent needed) the releif efforts from Crawford. Most of the White House staff was with him throughout his "vacation." That's why they call it "the Western White House."

But you demanded he pull Clinton and Gore "feel your pain" stunt-appearances. He did so. Now you accuse him of pandering.

He was pandering. To you. To your demands for empty gestures.

You got the empty gestures. So why are you complaining now?

One would begin to suspect that the Angry Left and Liberal Legacy Media (largely overlapping groups) are simply going to criticize Bush when he does X as well as when he does not-X.

Yeah. And one would begin to suspect that water is wet, fire is hot, and needles are sharp.

If you remember last year the press was all over him like stink on poop when he *did* go to Florida after the hurricanes.

As long as there have been college diplomas, degrees in Journalism have always included on the reverse, a fine-print warning: "Caution: The issuance of this diploma only certifies that the holder was recorded in attendance for the required class sessions, and is not intended to imply that the diplomate is capable of logical, rational, or responsible research, inquiry, composition, grammar, or conversation."

I was always counseled by other students and even faculty advisors, that if I found myself unable to cope with the rigors of hard science, math, philosophy, history, geography, English, or Art... there was always the Journalism major as a last resort.

Steve at hog on ice has, I believe, the perfect summary of W's no-win situation.

http://www.littletinylies.com/
I refer to the "bush is satan" post. a sample:

If George Bush crapped gold bars and handed one to every single hurricane victim, and then he raised the dead and parted the flood waters and turned the power back on and resurrected the Beatles and got them back together and lowered the price of oil to two cents per barrel and invented a cure for cancer while farting Chopin nocturnes and turning the oceans into chilled Dom Perignon and the beaches into caviar, liberals would STILL find reason to bitch

My neighbor was bitching about Bush being on vacation and returning from "whereever he went."

I told him, you mean his house? He went to his home. That's where he was. He went there to chop wood because that's what guys like to do-- unless they're pussy liberals.

Posted by: on September 3, 2005 03:11 PM

He went there to chop wood and govern the country, because as Steve points out in the post vivi linked to, the president of the United States does not take "vacations." That's why every time a president "takes a vacation" they call wherever he goes things like the (Something) White House. He takes a staff with him. Clinton would do it from Camp David. Nixon had a place down in Miami he'd do his "vacation" governing from. Bush does it from Crawford.

Posted by: Andrea Harris on September 3, 2005 04:39 PM

Andrea's absolutely right. When these panty-sniffer journalists take vacations, I doubt they even answer their cell phones, let alone do anything work related. The President gets intelligence briefings every day in Crawford, is in the loop for every major decision involving his office, and is ready to leave at a moments notice. That's hardly a two week romp in Thailand. The libs know this, but that hardly matters. Every single fucking thing is a chance at a partisan shot now, even a horrible national tragedy.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
