Hooray For Hollywood: Republican-Leaning Screenwriter on Hoist The Black Flag, Today at 4PM EST

Bridget Johnson, screenwriter, journalist, and blogger under the nom de cyber GOPVixen, will be joining us today to answer a lot of important questions, like why Hollywood is so damnedly liberal, how big is the closet-conservative contingent in Hollywood, and why did Howard the Duck suck so badly?

Shit, you had Lea Thompson and a talking duck. Right there, you're starting at two stars, even before you write a script or shoot a single scene.

Check in at Rightalk.com at 4PM Eastern for the show. Look for "Now Playing-- Channel One."

Call in at 866-884-TALK. I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but people besides John From Greenville are allowed to dial us up.

So have you had the "long time listener, first time caller" call yet?

Posted by: Lord Floppington on July 19, 2005 02:38 PM

No, not yet, damnit. But fingers crossed!!!!

Posted by: ace on July 19, 2005 03:59 PM

Does this mean you WON'T take a phone call from me?

Posted by: JFH on July 19, 2005 04:02 PM

Of course we will! And please, the rest of you (especially those who have been wanting us to do a one guest format), call in!

Posted by: Karol on July 19, 2005 04:10 PM

Is anyone listening? Just checking. :-)

Posted by: Karol on July 19, 2005 04:13 PM

Question for Ms. Johnson: I've read where Miramax has purchased exclusive copyright on the phrase "I'm gettin' too old for this shit?"

Is this true?

Posted by: The Ugly American on July 19, 2005 04:25 PM

How soon they forget, I called in two weeks ago with the "Long time reader, first time caller." line.

Posted by: vonKreedon on July 19, 2005 04:27 PM

If only you started a little later. Work doesn't clear out to the point where I could put you on till 3:30.

Posted by: HowardDevore on July 19, 2005 04:31 PM

Anyone listening?

I'm listening. Gonna disagree with you on Wedding Crashers though. Too chick flicky and light on the funny.

Posted by: Ray Midge on July 19, 2005 04:43 PM

What?!?! I'm not chick-ish at all and I laughed my ass off as did everyone in the theatre.

Posted by: Karol on July 19, 2005 04:50 PM
Posted by: Slublog on July 19, 2005 04:59 PM

Gotta diagree K. Tthat was one of those movies where they do the romance angle to bring in the chicks and the comedy angle for the guys. The comedy gets watered down to keep the leads all 'sweet' for the gals.

Some of the funny was OK (love Vaughn's overdrive jib-jabbering, but did it better in Made and Swingers) but not great. Not saying it was awful, just left with kinda an 'average, seen it before' kinda sensation.

Posted by: Ray Midge on July 19, 2005 05:01 PM

Ace, you don't need to use such long leading questions with your guests, do you? Esp. when you're not discussing a specific breaking story.

I mean your first question was longer than everything Johnson said on the entire show!

Posted by: someone on July 19, 2005 05:25 PM

Everything I learned about broadcasting I learned from Charlie Rose.

Just kidding. I will take your critique under serious advisement.

Sometimes, though, I don't want to just ask questions. I want to offer my own take in the guise of a question.

Posted by: ace on July 19, 2005 05:30 PM

John, of course you're allowed to call in. We like it when you do.

It's just that... I'm not sure if other people realize that you're not the only one allowed to.

VonKreedon,

Sorry, if you said that, I missed it. We do a lot of reading the board and passing notes back and forth during the show, so, sometimes we frankly don't hear the entirety of a quesiton (or an interviewee's response).

Posted by: ace on July 19, 2005 05:32 PM

You even snarfed when I said it, right after you corrected Karol in her attempt to pronounce vonKreedon.

Posted by: vonKreedon on July 19, 2005 05:49 PM

Right, but why have guests for that part?

I'd really have liked you to have asked about Hollywood targeting the foreign markets to the detriment of the domestic one -- hence growing anti-American subtexts.

Posted by: someone on July 19, 2005 05:50 PM

Best show yet, it was obvious that the topic of the left-wing entertainment industry got your motors running. You're both getting very good at this.

Posted by: waelse1 on July 19, 2005 08:06 PM

"RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!"

Ace, I love you. Thanks.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
