Daily Kos: You're No Different From The Taliban Or Al-QaedaA little self-interested point: why is it that huge -- and Kos is, of course, HUGE -- liberal bloggers get to indulge in this sort of over-the-top invective with no consequences to their credibility (such as it is) but big conservative bloggers (Insty, Volokh, Powerline) must be fairly reasonable and restrained? I bash liberals a lot. (But with the love-- always with the love.) But I don't think I've ever engaged in this level of black hatred. To the extent I do indulge in nastiness, it does, I think, put an upper limit on my acceptability and potential audience. And yet Kos and his nasty fellow-travellers can say just about anything they goddamned well like without being taken to task by any more authoritative source, i.e., the mainstream media and doyennes of journalism. Not your problem. My problem. But it annoys me to no end that conservative pundits are routinely savaged for nastiness and hackery while the Daily Kos and Atrios and the rest continue getting a free pass. And more than a free pass, actually. Prominent mentions in the New York Times with little by way of chiding for their vitriolic rhetoric. Thanks to NickS. And... Of course Karl Rove is worse than bin Ladin, according to Ted Rall. Remember: Ann Coulter is a divisive and vitriolic polemnicist who must be sharply rebuked by our Media Masters every time she's mentioned. Ted Rall is just a brave guy who tells the truth. That is certainly overstating the situation a bit -- "reasonable" media liberals will say they find Ted Rall over-the-top when they're forced to -- but only when they're forced to. Only when they're directly asked. But, of their own volition, they spend a lot of time talking about Ann Coulter and FoxNews. Perhaps they should reign in their own if they want to have any credibility when critiquing Ann Coulter's style of invective. posted by Ace at 06:46 PM

Daily Kos would, in a decent and sane world, have about as much credibility or respectability as far-right hate sites like the white supremacists at Stormfront. These people are fascist apologists, fascist sympathizers, and fascist propagandists. It's time we acknowledge this. Posted by: Dean Esmay on July 5, 2005 07:00 PM
Didn't someone in the msm recently refer to the DUmmies as well, dummies? Posted by: on July 5, 2005 07:29 PM
In the review over at Captain's Quarters of Bernard Goldberg's new book, 100 People Who are Screwing up America (and Al Franken is #37), I notice Goldberg put Kos at 52 on the list. I might have ranked him a bit higher, but I'm just a giver. Posted by: utron on July 5, 2005 07:40 PM
Yeah, the nastiness and negativity of posters on dailykos.com is pretty amazing. But their bark is a lot worse than their bite. And they're very very boring, especially how Kos demands that everyone who supports the war and wants to see America prevail must enlist immediately or they're hypocrites. Posted by: Moonbat_One on July 5, 2005 07:56 PM
Yeah, I know me and my fellow raht-wang Christers just can't wait to grab some homo and stone him to death. Then we all go have a few beers and hit the bingo hall. Posted by: Dave in Texas on July 5, 2005 08:23 PM
I noticed, while thumbing through Kos's "takedown" of Iowahawk's "4th of July Message from Al-Zarqawi", How idiotic do you have to be to call someone a coward hiding behind their computer, by typing it onto a forum hiding behind your own computer! And of course one of the Kossak's complained: It's comedy gold over in tham thar hills. They take themselves so seriously in their 5 minute hate, they completly miss the fact that they're emulating the behaviour that they claim disgusts them about the "Cons". Posted by: HowardDevore on July 5, 2005 08:34 PM
I'm struck even more by the complete lack of seriousness over there at Kos than I am the level of invective. Al Qaida/Taliban: 'Think like us, or we'll whip you and/or chop off your head' American Taliban: 'Think like us, or we'll condemn you to hell' Laying aside the absurdity of assigning Christians the belief that they personally can assign someone to hell, how in the world is this even remotely similar to chopping someone's head off?!!! The fact that sites like this are given any respect at all in the mainstream press is evidence enough of its leftward bias. Oh, and Ace is there anything you'd like to say to me regarding that Ted Rall link? Anything at all? I give and I give....
Posted by: The Warden on July 5, 2005 08:50 PM
If there was any cosmic justice in this world, Ted Rall would be bed-ridden with a horrible, rare case of Honduran flaming anal warts. Rall is such a repulsive, loathsome sack of wormshit I almost can't write about him without throwing my computer out the nearest window. The evil things he wrote and said about Pat Tillman should have relegated him to the outer fringes of society as well as the unemployment line. He's a sniveling, attention starved coward who probably still bears scars from countless high-school atomic wedgies. I breathlessly hope that one day Tillman's brother and some other Rangers find Rall and exercise a little free speech of their own. Fucker. Posted by: UGAdawg on July 5, 2005 09:13 PM

Bitch and moan all you want---perhaps it will help you ignore the horrible truth in Kos' post. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime want to execute minors. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime believe in their own infallibility. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime think God is on their side and will kill their enemies. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime demand blind obedience to authority. The ugly list goes on and on. They have completely different means, thank the goddess, but al Qaeda and the Bush regime have chillingly similar aims. Just because the Bush regime is preferable to al Qaeda doesn't make them GOOD---and America and the world deserve better. Posted by: Don Myers on July 5, 2005 10:13 PM

Slublog: Well, we agree on two points. Like you, I'm "tired of the constant pro-Bush television shows and news programs." The conservative-owned mainstream media is givin' me a headache. Also, we both consider the Bush regime to be better than the Taliban or al Qaeda. The difference is that you think that's good enough. I think being better than the Taliban is a pretty low standard. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime want to execute minors. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime believe in their own infallibility. Which is why the Bush cabinent looks the same as now as it did in '00 and why Bush follows the exact same strategies. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime think God is on their side and will kill their enemies. Well AQ thinks god is on their side and will make up for the numbers deficit they suffer in conflict. Bush doesn't rely upon God to strike down his enemies, he's got the USMC. Both al Qaeda and the Bush regime demand blind obedience to authority. I especially loved the part where he had McCain, Rather, Kos & Kerry all hung to death from the same gibbet. What, he hasn't? How is Bush supposed to get blind obedience if he doesn't enforce it then. Ace, why do you always get the low class, idiot, "nuanced" trolls? (Excepting VonKreedon of course) Your batch usually isn't quite as bad as RWN, but close. Does they AoS lifestyle just confuse their carefully constructed strawman of "Red Stater= Republican = Evangelical Christian= OBL=Hitler"? I've noticed that Markos makes much of his status as a veteran, frequently juxtaposing his service against that of the so-called 101st Fighting Keyboarders, Chickenhawks, et cetera. The chickenhawk argument has been thoroughly discredited. But the 101st Fighting Keyboarders is too good a turn of phrase for them to not use. So I expect Markos will continue to make much of his service., too much, I fear - and I say that as a veteran myself. This is an interview Markos gave to the Boston University alumni mag back in 2004. The interview covers a wide range of topics, Markos's military service among them. Basically, like a lot of people who served, Markos graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Army basically to pay for college. He served in the artillery from 1989 to 1992 and narrowly missed being sent to the Middle East during the first Gulf War. As Markos says in the interview: “My unit didn’t deploy because the war ended so quickly,” Moulitsas says. “But there is a kind of introspection and self-examination that knowing that you’re about to head out to war forces on you. Our vehicles were in the Gulf; we were ready to go. " Well, then. Basically, Markos gambled and won, in the sense that he got the educational benefits he wanted but didn't have to fulfill that 'war' requirement that lurks in the back of his (and everybody else's) service contract. There's nothing wrong with that - but it does shed some light on Markos's subsequent claims about his service. What's surprisingto me is that Markos, given his childhood background of stepping over fresh corpses in the market was himself surprised to find that the big loud tube shaped thing he was trained was there for a reason ... a war reason. Could it be the reason Kos and the others aren't called on it when they say the American fundamentalists are the same as the Taliban is because it's.......the truth? Posted by: MK on July 6, 2005 12:00 PM
Burkas, honor killings, aposty = death, homosexuals = death, female genital mutilation, sharia, honor rape, and finally attempted worldwide domination through terrorist tactics. Yep, American fundamentalists are exactly like the Taliban. Maybe kos doesn’t get called on it by his followers because they are all drinking from the same poisoned well. Posted by: Defense Guy on July 6, 2005 12:12 PM
Could it be the reason Kos and the others aren't called on it when they say the American fundamentalists are the same as the Taliban is because it's.......the truth? Uh, no. That wouldn't be it. Unless you've heard about some recent Pentacostal-initiated beheadings, or Seventh Day Adventist-encouraged suicide bombings, or Southern Baptist inspired all-girl school burnings, or Presbyterian (P.C.A.)-fueled museum-explodings that I haven't. Oh, and by the way MK? You're an anti-rational, ahistorical reactionary turd. Posted by: Rocketeer on July 6, 2005 12:14 PM
Nah. It's because even the areligious like me can see the difference and the statement is too pitiful for further comment. Now, if the Kossaks were to say that Marxists are the same as the Taliban, they'd be closer to the truth. I know quite a few American fundamentalists (I grew up among them). Not a single one to my knowledge wants to prevent women from going to school, nor to make women cover themselves from head to toe, nor kill homosexuals by collapsing walls on them or by throwing them off the roof, nor destroy other religions' sacred icons or statues, nor . . . well, I hope you get the point. I'm pretty sure MK and most other Kossak types don't really know any fundamentalists. Mostly, American fundamentalists want to be left alone to worship in their own way and to interact in public freely, on an equal basis with, say, the ACLU, PfAW, EMILY's List, and other lefty organizations that are busily pushing their noses into everything they can. I'm looking for a wall of separation between state and Lefty religion like socialism, statism, etc. Posted by: JorgXMcKie on July 6, 2005 12:21 PM
Could it be the reason Kos and the others aren't called on it when they say the American fundamentalists are the same as the Taliban is because it's.......the truth? Maybe the reason Kos and his followers don't get called on anything is because they're no longer taken seriously by anyone who isn't a raving lunatic moonbat. Dailykos and all other hard left bloggers/ journalists do not have to resort to truth or logic because their followers believe what they want to believe regardless of truth or logic. The Democrats are losing members and elections precisely because of their lack of truth and use of illogical arguments. Also their nastiness, slander and profanity are winning no new fans either.
