Hoist the Black Flag at 4 ETAt Rightalk.com, look for "Now Playing-- Channel One" at 4 Eastern. Our guest today will be Jay Nordlinger of NRO, who writes the popular "Impromptus" column. We'll be trying something new today... or maybe not. For the last fifteen minutes, Karol and I will attempt to take off the training wheels and carry the show without a guest, just riffing on important stories of the week/day and, I hope, taking phone calls. (Please call with something interesting to say.) The number is 866-884-TALK. That's toll-free, you cheapskates. We'll almost certainly be taking three calls (or more) today. So do try to call in. Let our producers know what you want to ask/rant about so we have an idea what's coming when you get on the line. Maybe not? I'm not sure I want to try this week, so I have feelers out to a special guest who may or may not grace us in the last fifteen minutes of the show. We shall see. posted by Ace at 01:26 PM
CommentsWith a one guest format, what are you going to do if you guest is a no show? You and Karol do have an emergency plan, don't you? Posted by: on June 14, 2005 01:32 PM
Of course we have an emergency plan. I plan on faking a seizure. Posted by: ace on June 14, 2005 01:36 PM
Heyyyyyy, that's my plan! Posted by: Karol on June 14, 2005 01:38 PM
Ace-- serious question (for once). Have you or Karol given any thought to doing the show a bit later, say, at 5:00 pm, or even 6:00 pm? As it stands now, I never get to listen live (some of us have jobs, you know), so I obviously also don't get a chance to phone in. I dunno what makes sense for you guys, perhaps 4:00 pm is perfect, but it doesn't work for me, and you know, it's all about me. Cheers, P.S. Just so you know, the show is great, and I am genuinely surprised you keep getting so many great guests. Is this really all you and Karol, or does RightTalk do anything to help you book guests? Or is this all an ancient Chinese secret? Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on June 14, 2005 01:55 PM
Another awesome guest, good work Posted by: brak on June 14, 2005 02:11 PM
I'll second Dave's comment about the time--I can only occasionally listen to the live broadcast because my cruel taskmasters insist that I actually do my "job." A little later would be nice. He's right about the guestlist, too. So far your picks have been freakin' amazing. Did you and Karol go to one of those NRO bashes and take a whole lot of compromising photos or something? Anyways, I'm looking forward to the show. Posted by: utron on June 14, 2005 02:19 PM
Congrats on getting another outstanding guest. Do you have pictures of William F. Buckley in a compromising position or something? Posted by: Slublog on June 14, 2005 02:52 PM
That is one hot guest. I'm for sure listening in. Posted by: Gerg on June 14, 2005 02:55 PM
Yes, I just realized utron beat me to the joke. His version was funnier, for the record. Posted by: Slublog on June 14, 2005 03:09 PM
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Nordlinger!!! I will be listening Posted by: tinkerbelle on June 14, 2005 04:00 PM

Jay was a good guest. "Why did you decide to focus on human rights in Cuba?" "It was vigin territory. No one covers it." Posted by: Moonbat_One on June 14, 2005 05:02 PM
Best show yet. Posted by: Stumbo on June 14, 2005 05:02 PM
4-5 is the busy last minute hour at the shop here, wish I could hear the whole thing. But what I heard was good. Posted by: lauraw on June 14, 2005 05:03 PM
Great show with the exception of that lame lone caller... Come on, people I can't be the only one who wants to make a fool of themselves... Posted by: JFH on June 14, 2005 05:07 PM
We actually got only one call. Posted by: ace on June 14, 2005 05:13 PM
If I call in and pretend to be Batman, will you hang up on me? Posted by: Michael on June 14, 2005 05:49 PM
Ace, when are you going to tell you readers the truth about your co-host? She is politically connected. Wasn't she on Bush's payroll in the last election. A man in Colorado left her 14 million dollars to promote her conservative agenda. Karol is a cultist for the Republican cause. I'm writing an article about her for USA Today. Posted by: Mike on June 14, 2005 06:05 PM
ace & Karol: I found the Cuba talk interesting. The moonbats are always going on and on about human rights violations, it's nice to hear for a change who the violaters are besides us. Posted by: on June 14, 2005 06:13 PM
I missed the live show and am trying to listen to the replay but the sound is full of echo and static. The other shows are coming through clearly. WTF? Posted by: Chris on June 14, 2005 06:57 PM

Yeah, uh-huh, I look forward to reading your article. Go to Karol's site and she announces on the sidebar that she works as a political consultant. I'm not sure how much more you need than that. I think your whole point is jackass. 90% of radio hosts and commentators are "politically connected." FUCKIN' DUH. How the fuck do you think we get guests? Jesus, at this point, even *I'm* beginning to become politically connected, at least on a fairly low level. I hope to become more politically connected, and get on that KKKarl Rove/Richard SScaife gravy train.

PS, Mike: Be sure to hit the PayPal button. You're so fucking stupid you owe me five fucking dollars for hurting my fucking brain with your insufferable retardation. Posted by: ace on June 14, 2005 07:25 PM
Re: Time I think I'd actually prefer a later show. It does make sense to broadcast after the working hours on the East coast. I'll ask about that possibility... but I believe Rightalk wants to work during the East coast working hours. (Not sure why, as they're in CA.) Re: "Best show" Thanks, Stumbo. I almost cancelled because I was freaking about what the hell we were going to say/ask. But I didn't actually panic, so I guess I'm getting more comfortable with the stupid show. Re: Batman Call up as Batman as you like. I won't hang up on you as long as you're funny, and say "I'm Batman" in a passable Michael Keaton impersonation from time to time. Re: Bad sound quality No idea. I did notice goofy stuff going on with the sound today as we were webcasting. I don't know if this is just a bad replay you're hearing or we got crap sound quality today. I'll ask my lovely producer Liz about it. Posted by: ace on June 14, 2005 07:32 PM
We actually got only one call. Was half-tempted to call in again, but that would be REALLY lame... I'll get my wife to call in next week as a proxy. Posted by: JFH on June 14, 2005 08:04 PM
Tried to listen to the show and it was very echo-ey and distorted to the point wheere words couldn't be understood. Posted by: msl on June 14, 2005 08:25 PM
I won't hang up on you as long as you're funny, and say "I'm Batman" in a passable Michael Keaton impersonation from time to time. Well then, never mind. I'd be doing Adam West, not Michael Keaton. Posted by: Michael on June 14, 2005 08:53 PM
If you can do a solid Adam West impression, I swear we'll have you on as a guest commentator. Adam West impressions are great. Posted by: ace on June 14, 2005 09:08 PM
A man in Colorado left her 14 million dollars to promote her conservative agenda. Karol is a cultist for the Republican cause. I'm writing an article about her for USA Today. Wow, let me know which address they need to send me my 14 million dollars. And USA Today, can't you get me a piece in the Times at least? Posted by: Karol on June 15, 2005 01:18 AM
Karol, Posted by: lauraw on June 15, 2005 11:26 AM
I think we can safely say that if Karol had $14 million dollars, Ace would have already hired Mexicans to kidnap her for ransom. Posted by: lauraw on June 15, 2005 11:27 AM

Funniest thing I've read about the Virginia mess. Back when they were hustling the referendum through the assembly both Senators, Warner and Kaine, advised them to go slow and play by the rules. Louise Lucas said she respected them but didn't need advice from the "cuck chair" in the corner. The gerrymandering was overturned and Louise is heading for the big house. Edward G. Robinson voice "where's your cuck now?" I posted his post on twitter and it's gotten 25K views so far. Thanks, Smell the Glove Chris

"It's f**king f**ked."
-- reportedly a genuine comment offered by a "senior Labour source" Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held. Basil the Great
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.
Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing. Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult. Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending. (((Dan Hodges))) Nick Lowles
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98. Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years. Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45 Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%. I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens. REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs. Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:
![]() That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time. I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
