Hell's Kitchen [Jen @ Demure Thoughts]

Just watched a hilarious new reality show on Fox called Hell's Kitchen with this Brit chef who's name escapes me but who seems to be of great notoriety holding a contest for the last chef standing to win his own restaurant. Knowing Fox it is probably an air conditioned Taco Stand somewhere in East L.A., but that is for another day.

This guy, whose name I will stop right now and look up...Gordon Ramsey... is a total jackass and I really like him. The show is typical of Fox Reality Shows and obviously scripted to a great degree, but who cares. This guy gives hard-ass slave-driving executive chef new meaning. His accent is thick and his tongue is sharp. Love him!

This guy served him steak with an oxtail reduction and grilled white pairs. He asks, "Why put white pairs with beef?" The idiot "Andrew" stumbles around and instead of saying "It wasn't my idea, it was Ralph's" he says, "It looks pretty..." with his mouth open and a bit of spittle collecting in the corner. Gordon says, "Ok, let's see if it works." He stacks his fork with a bit of beef, some green something, and a piece of pair. He chews it and swallows. "That doesn't work..." he says flatly. "Of course, Chef." Andrew the mouth breather says. "Take this away..." handing him the platter, "...this is fucking disgusting."

The entire show is like this. He is a total bastard. Did I mention I love him. Every time someone whines he just looks at them like they are idiot children and slaps them down. "Button it!"

This show is worth it just to hear him rant. He is like Simon from American Idol, only less gay.

While I totally agree with you IRT Hell's Kitchen this just makes your ignorance of the greatness that is House all the more saddening. Being a reality TV show may actually give the former an overall edge, but given that it's pretty much repeat season now would be a great time to stop depriving yourself and catch the episodes of the latter that you can!

Jen,
I have watched this show since the first episode. You would have really loved that one. When the customers who had been waiting as long as three hours for there food, came to the kitchen to complain, he cussed them out and insulted them. When one group of bleached blonde babes complained he told them to go get some more plastic surgery or botox or silicone, or something like that. Well, I am sure you get the picture.

I had not heard of him before this show either, but since then have seen his show on BBC. It is based in Britain and he goes into a flailing restaurant and whips the place into shape in an attempt to save it. I only saw one episode, but evidently he does a different restaurant each episode.

Hmm. I guess I should have taken advantage of that preview feature. I don't normally confuse "there" and "their" as I did above, but it is late.

Gordon Ramsey has been pretty notorious for years in the UK.

He does treat his staff like that IRL, and while some of it may be scripted, his behaviour isn't. There is the show 'Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares' where he helps failing restaurants, and Ramseys Boiling Point where cameras follow him around, and Beyond Boiling Point which is the sequel to Boiling Point.

While this may be unique for a US reality show, Gordon gets boring. He's like a child who realizes he gets attention every time he says fuck. He is deliberately controversial for the attention and then likes to pretend he is above all that. He likes to think that anyone who challenges his position is simply trying to get into an argument with him just so they can share his spotlight which he firmly likes to claim ownership of.

While he is trying to paint himself as the 'bad boy chef' with the "rock and roll lifestyle", it's hardly holding water. "Oooh, my souffle fell, lets go trash a hotel room". Somehow, coming up with new ways to cook carrots doesn't exactly scream bad boy.

No doubt he is refreshing for US reality shows, and it is a bit of a gimmick for US audiences. However, once you see him in action in Boiling Point, or Beyond Boiling Point, you realize what an ass he really is. It's been shown that his tirades can often be a function of his mood rather than the unwitting kitchen staff's offences in the kitchen, which makes him not so much harsh but fair, as it makes him an ass who cannot control himself.

There's a flaw in that show. As they keep voting people off, they're going to have fewer and fewer staff to serve the customers. Unless they shrink the number of customers allowed in, they're never going to be able to serve them adequately.

I hate to quibble, Jen, but I'm guessing Simon gets more tail than Sinatra.

I find Hell's Kitchen contrived and unpleasant.

Much better is BBC's Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, where he goes to failing restaurants and whips them into shape (or tries to, at least). He's mean there, but not contrivedly so, and to a genuine purpose-- he's actually trying to help restuarants not go bankrupt in the following three months.

He can be pretty nasty, and his usual advice is "Fire that fucking useless chef," but he's more human and behaves more realistically. And once in a while he finds some flunkee in a kitchen who he deems to have natural talent.

Lorie,

Those incidents where he insults the customers are soooo set up. He told those blondes to shut up and go back to plastic surgery, they went back to their table and said "He was really mean to us."

And the fight with the customer who ordered the pizza because his food was taking too long? BS!

Now if I could only stop watching the stupid show.

DAMN YOU REALITY TV!!!

Simon is Gay! Gay i tell you! Gay! heh. He probably isn't but he should be, because he is such a bitch. I love Simon. I just lost some respect for him when he refused to bitch slap the crack addled Paula Abdul this season while she tried to fellate constantine on camera. It was such a good set up for him. But the censors might not have like a delicious slap down from Simon.

Posted by: jennifer on June 14, 2005 09:50 AM

Simon is a freaking genius. An evil, bitchy genius.

I love it when he fights to suppress a grin while Paula is rambling and then says something like "Thanks for those inspiring words, Paula."

Gordon Ramsey is an arrogant jerk and a pretty miserable excuse for a human being. But he does have a Michelin three-starred restaurant, which enables you to get away with a lot of stuff.

Funniest thing I've read about the Virginia mess. Back when they were hustling the referendum through the assembly both Senators, Warner and Kaine, advised them to go slow and play by the rules. Louise Lucas said she respected them but didn't need advice from the "cuck chair" in the corner. The gerrymandering was overturned and Louise is heading for the big house. Edward G. Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held.

🚨ED MILIBAND [a Minister in Starmer's government] SAYS KEIR STARMER WILL RESIGN AS PRIME MINISTER

He has reportedly reassured Labour MP's that Starmer will be resigning following the disastrous results tonight

It's over
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.

Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg
@zatzi
If this continues Labour loses 2,148 seats tonight.

That is much worse than the worst case predictions I’ve seen.

Cataclysmic

Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot
@TheBritLad

🚨 BREAKING: Labour have lost 80% of all seats contested as of 2:25 AM.<
br> If this continues, Keir Starmer will be out of office next week.

Reform has surged and projected to pick up between 1700-2100 seats.

Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing.
Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult.
Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending.

@DPJHodges

Reform are basically wiping Labour out in the North. It's not a defeat. It's not even a rout. Labour are simply ceasing to exist.

Nick Lowles
@lowles_nick

Tonight’s results are calamitous for Labour. Not just for Keir Starmer's leadership, but for the very future of the party
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98.
Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years.
Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour
Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45
Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%.
I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens.
REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs.
Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:

I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
