Bush Open To Closing Gitmo? [Say Anything]Bush Open to Possibly Closing Gitmo Camp I'm not sure that the President's words support the idea that he's open to closing Gitmo at this point. Here's the entire exchange from his interview with Cavuto: [Additional comments by Dave at Garfield Ridge] CAVUTO: Speaking of civil liberties, one of your predecessors, Jimmy Carter, was very critical of our operations at Guantanamo Bay (search), saying they should be shut down, that abuses there, if proven true, are dragging our name through the mud globally. What do you make of that? Clearly the President is open to exploring other options for detention, but I'm not sure I'd say he's necessarily open to closing Gitmo itself. One thing a lot of these "close Gitmo now" people are missing is the fact that, while the President might be open to closing that particular detention center down he is nowhere near admitting that the people detained there should be let go. He recognizes the fact that these people are dangerous and should not be running around loose in the world. And he's right. So what does it matter if they're detained in Guantanamo Bay or Fairbanks, Alaska? They'll still be detained, and the bleeding hearts will still be angry about it. [Crossposted at Say Anything] --- Because as anyone trained in press relations knows, you never answer "never." You always answer in a positive tone. Even if Gitmo were to be closed tomorrow, you wouldn't say that until you're ready to close Gitmo. Likewise, if Gitmo were to never close, you don't say that, either-- because if it closed for whatever reason, good or bad, the press could hang your quote from your neck. posted by Ace at 10:26 AM
Commentsthis post sounded better in German. anyway, those in the reality-based world know that Bush and the neocon military are torturing people all over the world. if Bush had courage he would release all illegally held prisoners (but he won't because he is a radical wingnut...like yoU!) I here Wake Island is stunning this time of the year. Or perhaps Midway. I'm sure the Gooney Birds won't mind the company. Posted by: Mikey on June 9, 2005 10:35 AM
Err, swap "hear" for "here". Posted by: Mikey on June 9, 2005 10:35 AM
Let's just try them on the battlefield by military law. Posted by: Birkel on June 9, 2005 10:41 AM
How about some real torture before we close down the camp? We could try out the efficacy of all the good ones like: the Iron Maiden, the Rack, the Spanish Horse, the Pear, the Wheel, the Strappado, the Boot, the Bastadado, the Necklace, the Tickler, the Garrotte, the Peine forte et dure, the Water Cure and my personal favorite: the Brass Bull. As Bonnie Raitt sang: Let's give 'em something to talk about. Posted by: 72 VIRGINS on June 9, 2005 12:01 PM
But don't you know? Iraq is really like the Holocaust http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/6/8/124621.shtml Disgusting and unsurprising. I figured it would be Dean that said it though. Posted by: brak on June 9, 2005 12:14 PM
Perhaps we should try out the efficacy of some more modern up-to-date methods of torture (before we have all the Gitmo detainees sent home in a ship that accidentally sinks in eight-mile-deep ocean) such as The Acid Vat, the Electric Baton, Pitchcapping, the Boiler, or my favorite: the Wood Chipper. Posted by: 72 Sadists on June 9, 2005 01:54 PM
Sure, 72-member types! Because there's nothing wrong with a little torture when it's being performed by the right people. I know you're kidding, but the knee-jerk defense of torture by too many people on the right makes me ill. Posted by: SparcVark on June 9, 2005 02:02 PM
When will that Killer Wabbit MOFO just move on to the alzheimers ward and shut the F up!!!? worst president and worst citizen award goes to... Killer Wabbit! Posted by: GregS on June 9, 2005 04:53 PM
Funny how the military turned from putting an end to genocide, to babykilling neocons in a few short years. That's quite the turnover. Posted by: lauraw on June 9, 2005 05:49 PM
Bush said everything is on the table and they'll consider all options. He's said pretty much the same thing whenever he's had to reply to moonbats. Translation: Don't wait up. Posted by: erp on June 9, 2005 07:52 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
