Charges Dropped Against Marine Hero

He told two advancing insurgents -- in Arabic -- to halt. They did not. So he shot the sons-a-bitches dead.

He was charged with murder -- apparently based on the tip of a fellow soldier with a grudge against him -- and potentially faced the death penalty.

But finally charges have been dropped against Lt. Ilario Pantano.

Co-host Karol has an interesting nugget to add as well:

New York Magazine featured a story on Pantano recently and []they tried to make him seem like a nut[,] writing that when Pantano saw the towers fall in NY it was 'as if he were a sleeper cell remotely activated' as he rejoined the military...

But they support our troops, of course. Don't they keep telling you so?

And... She also hosted this week's Carnival of the Vanities, going around the blogosphere in 71 links... and made sure to plug our show at the top of the run-down. God bless her mercenary heart.

Only Vaguely Related Update: Lt. Pantano would probably get along fine at this police department.

I have no idea if that photo is doctored or real. But I like it.

That police car picture is old—at least a year old. So old that I had forgotten about it, so thanks for posting it and providing me a laugh. I like it too.

Now what happens? Will he have to leave the military because his career is dead? I always feel sorry for people who are unjustly accused and then cleared in that they generally still lose what was most important to them. Maybe, by the time they are cleared they are so jaded and disillusioned they no longer care. Anyway, it sucks.

It's 'shopped. I've seen several variations of it. None of the cops I know eat junk food. They won't even accept food from you. They are all very disciplined and are military or ex-military. Which is good b/c our criminals are tougher, too.

So, when are you going to make an honest woman of Karol, ace? You were just lamenting about the lack of procreation. Frank J. is doing his bit for the human race. Actually, the number of bloggers who had babies the past 1-2 years is astounding. I don't know how they juggle job, wife, kids, and blogging.

Two true stories:

I saw two police officers emerging from a convenience store, where they'd been picking up snacks. As one of them passed me on the way out, holding a Moon Pie (TM) in his hand, he remarked to me, "Now remember, we don't eat donuts, we eat Moon Pies."

And when I was getting written a fix-it ticket for a front license plate that had fallen off, I was asking the officer whether I needed to go in to the station to get it signed off after I had it repaired, or whether I could just ask any cop I happened to encounter on the street or at a donut shop or something. His response: "Hey, watch it. Donuts kill more cops than bullets. Though I will admit to eating a bagel every now and then."

Finally, that graphic artist / photoshop artist spelled it wrong. There is no "ugh" in "donuts."

Dear "May" why are you afraid to give a tag??

As for Pantano's career being dead, he should and shall leave the Marines behind since he was caught in the lies of SGT Daniel Coburn, who was the accusor.

And betrayer.

Who was caught in lies after being granted immunity and was the cause of this death penalty level inquiry.

I would never spit in the face of Jane Fonda. She, after all is a civilian and a non-Marine.

I pray that I am among the many hundreds that get to spit in Daniel Coburn's face for his grudge betrayal of a man world's better than he was.

Ace I live here in Bakersfield and Mack Wimbish is a fine Sheriff. Want a violent department go to B.P.D they like to shoot people in the back, especially scummy bank robbers from L.A. I witnessed them shoot a dude running from the credit union he just robbed, nailed him twice shooting across street with civilians driving by it was amazing, then the albertsons gun battle in parking lot. They love to shoot and thats why I LOVE THE B.P.D.

Alex: "doughnut" is a variant spelling of "donut". Both are acceptable.

Posted by: Mikey on May 27, 2005 08:09 AM

I hate to be a spelling geek, but just to set the record straight "doughnut" is the original spelling and "donut" is a variant. "Donut" might have started off as part of a brand name. Note that Krispy Kreme, which tries to have an old-timey feel, uses "doughnuts".

Snopes has the goods on the photo. "We'll kick your ass" was actually put on two police cars, but someone on the Net decided to improve it by Photoshopping in the doughnuts line.

Please, please refer to Marines as Marines, not Soldiers.
Sailors are Sailiors.
Airmen are Aimen.
Soldiers are Soldiers.
Marines are Marines
On another note,
Maybe, once the brass starts kicking down doors and charging into rooms wih Terrorist in Civvies, or standing at a roadblock wondering if this car is the car that will cut them to pieces; perhaps this will stop.

I've been following this story from the start, it had the right conclusion. I don't think it should have gone this far, but finally it's over.

Good job to all the bloggers who kept this story in the headlines.

I interviewed Pantano's lawyer yesterday.

I apologize for the comment spam. Just thought you'd be interested. =)

I'm also interviewing Pantano himself early next week.

Very good interivew, Mr. Jarrell. But, it deserves a hyperlink.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
