Barack Obama Wants You To Support an Ex-Klansman

Sure, he wore the sheets proudly, but he bashes Bush, so all is forgiven.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm writing today about a senator who needs your urgent support. Senator Robert Byrd was one of the first senators I met with when I came to the Senate 3 months ago. Senator Byrd understands the history, the importance and the role Senate plays in our government--at 87 years old, he's the most senior senator.

He has spoken out passionately against a Bush foreign policy that has alienated our allies throughout the world. Today, he is fighting an attempt by Republicans to change the 200-year old rules of the Senate that would allow Republicans to ram federal judges through the Senate with no regard for what others might say. Above all, Robert Byrd understands just how sacred the Constitution of our country truly is and fights every day to protect it.

Now he needs our help. In 2006, Senator Byrd will be the target of Republicans because he stands up for what he believes.

I want to be sure Robert Byrd is here fighting for us in the Senate. Will you join me in supporting his campaign for re-election, before a critical deadline this Thursday?

You can give online at: [link deleted for obvious reasons; wouldn't want to run afoul of the FEC's rules on "donating" pixels to candidates]

I hope you will give generously to help send Robert Byrd back to the Senate for another term to fight for the Constitution and the freedom of speech we all enjoy.

...

Remember, in order to win back the Senate majority, we need Robert Byrd.

The work you do is extremely important--you and millions of others, working through MoveOn, have helped change the way politics works in this country. Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

A grateful Robert Byrd thanked Barack Obama by saying, "You're one of the 'good ones,' I think... You're definitely 'mixed.' I'm pretty sure you're a quadroon or even an octaroon, which I'm sure you'll be glad to know I consider almost white. Almost."

Yeah... Obama's just as "moderate" as the typical Democrat dubbed "moderate" by the media. I guess he is moderate on that whole silly KKK fooferall.

In related news, Alan Derschowitz is asking people to help support David Irving's brave revelations about the so-called "Holocaust."

Growing up in the middle of the civil rights movement in Mississppi, this just seems surreal to me.

Keep an eye on Obama though. He is the golden boy of the Democrats.

Some vietnamese chick in my office told my old boss:

You turned out alright for being half-black
I think we all just kinda dropped our jaws like "WTF did she just say?!?" - the old boss didn't even know how to respond. The total kick in the nuts was that she didn't even get what she'd just said.

People R Teh Dumb.

"Remember, in order to win back the Senate majority, we need Robert Byrd."

I keep trying to make a funny retort to that but they all fall short. It's its own punchline.

Posted by: Barbwire Mike on March 29, 2005 03:29 PM

Uh oh. Now Cedarford might have to withdraw his support for Byrd.

Posted by: someone on March 29, 2005 03:31 PM

Senator Robert Byrd was one of the first senators I met with when I came to the Senate 3 months ago.

Byrd must've passed him on his way past the "colored" fountain.

Posted by: The Warden on March 29, 2005 03:31 PM

The Warden, no, I think it was when Bryd gave Obama his coat and umbrella and said "check that for me, will ya boy? And bring me a scotch on the rocks. Much obliged."

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on March 29, 2005 03:42 PM

The funny thing is that Byrd could defuse 90 percent of the heat he takes for being a former Kleagle (or whatever eminence he achieved) if he'd just apologize and say he was wrong. Kerry could've done the same thing with Vietnam, Winter Soldier, and all the rest back in the primaries.

Americans are mostly nice, non-vindictive people with a major streak of self-righteousness; we love to forgive sinners. Unfortunately, the only politician who's even begun to grasp that fact is Bill Clinton.

Posted by: utron on March 29, 2005 03:43 PM

Well, what do you expect? The post-Clinton Donk is incapable of shame.

Posted by: zetetic on March 29, 2005 03:52 PM

Joking aside, does anyone in the media have the guts to ask Osamabama if he thinks Byrd ought to apologize for his membership in the Klan?

And maybe Clarence Thomas should point to this boot-licking letter the next time someone calls him an "Uncle Tom." I'd just love to hear him say, "Well, at least I don't kiss ass to former Klansmen."

Posted by: The Warden on March 29, 2005 03:52 PM

The fact that Obama knows that Byrd was in the KKK 50 years ago, and forgives him for it, seems to me to be the American way. Yes, Byrd has certainly apologized for it, and has certainly discussed the topic before. People change. Obama didn't have the best start in life either, but he is now a Senator. What's not to like about changing for the better? Yet all some people can do is make jokes insinuating that he still harbors the same views? Interesting.

Posted by: Erik on March 29, 2005 04:00 PM

Bullseye, Warden. I hadn't even thought of making the comparison to Thomas's treatment.

BTW, I hope nobody thinks I'm nice enough to forgive Byrd. Personally, I'd like to reward him for his years of service by moving him to a new post--Senate Office Building doorman, maybe. He could stand out by the curb in a big coat with brass buttons, and every day as Byrd held the door for him, Obama could say, "Morning, Admiral," and tip
him with a shiny new quarter.

Posted by: utron on March 29, 2005 04:00 PM

be ready, because this guy has been groomed from day 1 by the dems and the MSM to be hillary's running mate

obama, not byrd

though that would be great

Posted by: johnny on March 29, 2005 04:01 PM

The Hildebeast and Obamasama?

Well, if there was still any doubt that the Donks have written the South off completely, there ya go.

Posted by: zetetic on March 29, 2005 04:03 PM

Imagine this scenario:

Hildabeast/Obamasama

vs.

Condi/Sen. Martinez

Who does Cedarford vote for?

My guess? A write in ballot for George Lincoln Rockwell.

Posted by: Jack M. on March 29, 2005 04:15 PM

Yes, Byrd has certainly apologized for it, and has certainly discussed the topic before.

Erik,

I'm not letting you get away with that. Byrd has not apologized other than to call his membership a mistake.

If you say otherwise, provide the link.

Posted by: The Warden on March 29, 2005 04:52 PM

The Warden, right. As I told Erik on my blog, Byrd just in recent years said to an interviewer " I have known some white niggers, you know what I mean?"

Come on.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on March 29, 2005 05:48 PM

But Osamabamalama is so important to the Donks. He's the first black senator that WASN'T a racist republican.

Posted by: HowardDevore on March 29, 2005 05:53 PM

Obama sure is lucky that folks like you are here to decide what black men should think.

Posted by: on March 29, 2005 06:45 PM

Thanks, I try. I really do.

Posted by: ace on March 29, 2005 06:47 PM

Gee. I missed the part where we were telling Obama what to think. Ace, have you been editing again???

I suppose you deleted where we told Hispanics what to think too!

I mean really!!! How can we brainwash if you censor us????

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on March 29, 2005 07:35 PM

It's all my fault.

Posted by: Karl Rove on March 29, 2005 07:39 PM

One could argue that orders for black thinking and behavior come directly from the DNC.

Posted by: Hoodlumman on March 29, 2005 07:57 PM

Show me the headers if was electoric transmitted or show me the mailing envelope or other source. MoveOnPAC site does not appear to have this letter.

Posted by: on March 29, 2005 08:07 PM

I don't have the actual email. I have this from a source who is not likely to commit gross errors.

Possible, I suppose. But not likely.

Posted by: ace on March 29, 2005 08:14 PM

Howard - you forgot Carol Moseley Braun (also from Illinois...what is it about Illinois, anyway?) I imagine they'd rather forget her as well, though. She wasn't up to much and her charisma was minimal.

Posted by: Sonetka on March 29, 2005 09:00 PM

Carol Mostly Fraud was very humble, but then she had a lot to be humble about.

Posted by: zetetic on March 29, 2005 09:07 PM

Hey, where's Erik? I'm still waiting for that link to Byrd's apology. I'm sure a liberal would never simply assert something as fact without it being true.

Posted by: The Warden on March 29, 2005 10:17 PM

The Warden, now, now. Erik is actually very nice. I don't think he is actually a liberal. He is finding his way....;-)
We need to focus on pulling him over from the dark side. If he can't find the link he will come back and say he didn't. Thats how I know he's not really a liberal....;-)

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on March 30, 2005 10:05 AM

"at 87 years old, he's the most senior senator." Typo, it should be senile, oops no, despite age that would be Ted Kennedy. Byrd is the most drunken senator, oops no, that would be Ted Kennedy again, well the biggest jerk off in the senate, oops no that would be Barney Frank, hmmmm, well he is the oldest Klansman in the senate.

Posted by: 72VIRGINS on March 30, 2005 10:44 AM

I'm thinking he is a liberal based on the false assertion about Byrd, combined with the hypocritical call to forgive and forget - a courtesy liberals only extend to their own kind, combined with the smarmy use of the word, "interesting" to describe our refusal to forgive and forget a politician's membership in a terrorist organization.

'Course I'll take all that back if he pops up again and admits Byrd never apologized. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Posted by: The Warden on March 30, 2005 10:45 AM

The fact that Obama knows that Byrd was in the KKK 50 years ago, and forgives him for it, seems to me to be the American way. Fine, but then the Democrats don't get call the Republicans racists, or call them "Klansmen", or pull any of the other race baiting tricks that are part and parcel of the Democrat poltical arsenal. They don't want to stop talking about it, because they only way then can win elections is to convince black Americans that the Republicans are racists. Apology or no, this is fair game. Americans need to be reminded which party was the party of segregation, and it wasn't the GOP.

Posted by: Joshua Chamberlain on March 30, 2005 04:03 PM

"Obama didn't have the best start in life either, but he is now a Senator. "

Was Obama the head of some racist organization in his adulthood? Has he recently used derogatory racial terms in public? If not then what does anyone have to forgive about his "start" in life?
