Rumors of Rudy Guiliani's Liberalism Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

...or at least you haven't gotten the full story.

The NY Liberal Press shrieked and howled when Rudi began to clean up 42nd street, reform welfare, and fight crime, and they never stopped until the results were so obvious to everyone that they began to sound so ridiculous to most people they were starting to get flak from them. And of course now that the wisdom of Rudi's policies has long been demonstrated they stay silent about it all and insist on still doing the Liberal thing: lying by omission. God I hate Liberals!

Interesting comments over there, I wonder if the right will be able to hold their momentum and not fracture on social issues before 08? here's hoping so...

No one denies that on the issues for which Guiliani is conservative, he's reeeeally conservative.

The problem is that on the issues for which he's liberal, he's reeeeeeeeally liberal. And two of those issues, abortion and guns, would be a kick in the nuts to two of the largest and most dedicated constituencies of the Republican Party. I doubt Guiliani would try to assure those groups that he would set aside his personal beliefs to advance theirs, and I'm sure those two groups would never buy it if he did.

I know Rudy's a great leader, and he'd be great on certain issues, but he's flawed. And in the context of a Republican Primary, fatally so.

Don't underestimate Rudy... A lot could happen. National Dems make the obligatory flip-flop to go pro-abortion all the time.

"abortion and guns" play big in NYC. Hopefully he'll find a way to smooth it over because he looks like our best hope for '08 right now.

As I said over on Polipundit, Rudy will never moderate on gun control. Rudy, who made his name in NYC as a prosecutor, LOVES cops. He sees the gun control issue through a city cop's eyes: Gun control = fewer dress blue funerals + fewer widows and orphans. Plus, a gun charge is another weapon in the prosecutor's arsenal.

Abortion, maybe, since his pro-choiceness may be mostly pragmatic (and inconsequential as mayor of NYC,) but guns never.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
