Calling on Drudge

Jim Geraghty has a post urging readers to demand the release of the Easongate tape. It's the only way to resolve this he said/they said dispute.

But there's a quicker way. And Geraghty noted it the other day.

Where. The Hell. Is Drudge?

Blogs can make noise, and a precious few can have an impact, but it's only Drudge -- with his millions of readers -- that can actually force the MSM to cover a story it doesn't want to.

This is a Drudge-perfect story. It's about big media (or NBCCBSABCMSNBCCNNAOLTIMEWARNER, in Drudge parlance), it's about scandal, it's about "keeping an eye on the rascals," as his catch-phrase on his old Fox show had it.

Where the hell is he? Why hasn't he posted anything at all on this?

Is it simply because he doesn't think this is newsworthy? On what planet? Right now he's running a headline-above-the-banner about Donovan McNabb being nauseated in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl. I guess that's a story, but it's not as if his page is crowded with big, juicy items.

Is it because he's late to the game? If so, so what? There are some recent news hooks he could hang a mention on, like Howie Kurtz breaking his silence on the matter to play country lawyer for Jordan.

What the hell is going on, exactly?

If you want to push this story into the forefront, contact Drudge or his helpy helperton Andrew Breitbart and ask them why, exactly, they're chosing to embargo this story just as the dreaded NBCCBSABCMSNBCCNNAOLTIMEWARNER is embargoing it.

Geraghty says Scarborough is doing a piece on it tonight and Hannity might as well. Maybe one of those guys will have a better chance of forcing the release of the tape?

If anyone has the tape I will gladly distribute it.

Maybe Drudge relies a little too much on sources inside places like CNN to feed him.

Posted by: bullwinkle on February 8, 2005 07:52 PM

i dont think Drudge cares about stepping on toes

Posted by: on February 8, 2005 08:05 PM

I've pretty much given up on Drudge for news nowadays. Rarely does he actually *break* anything, and too often his personal slant leads him to ignore news I want to hear about. He pretty much embargoed the swift vets after the MSM picked up on them. And of course there is this easongate which he is ignoring (though Drudge ran with Eason's mea culpa on cuddling up to Saddam)

Anyone have suggestions for a new start page?

Posted by: HowardDevore on February 8, 2005 08:08 PM

i think we are getting a little paranoid. Does anybody actually think Drudge wouldnt love to kick MSM in the balls again if he could? Thats what he lives for.

Posted by: on February 8, 2005 08:11 PM

i'm also hoping "Best of the Web Today" on Opinionjournal.com weighs in on it soon.

Posted by: Born Free on February 8, 2005 08:17 PM

Drudge lives for scandal. I think this is too talking head, he said- she said for Drudge.

Posted by: HowardDevore on February 8, 2005 08:22 PM

Howard: get Bloglines set up and use that as a start page.

Posted by: Joe R. the Unabrewer on February 8, 2005 08:33 PM

I think Drudge needs some visual aids. He doesn't have anything punchy to link to.

Just make Google your homepage.

Posted by: Iblis on February 8, 2005 09:15 PM

Where's Rush Limbaugh in all this? Isn't he always hammering the MSM? Why isn't he (or his fill-in) talking about this? Where's Laura Ingraham?

Posted by: Buttered Toast on February 8, 2005 10:31 PM

I sent Drudge a shitload of sites/pages/links tonight covering the full spectrum of Jordania. If they read at all, they can't miss all the class players like Reynolds, Morrissey, Hewitt, Simon, Roggio, Geraghty, Powerline, ACE, Investors Business Daily, EASONGATE, etc., etc.

Hell, make it unbearable for 'em and load 'em up!!!!!

Ace--

A theory.

I love Drudge; you can't acknowledge the power of the internet without acknowledging Drudge.

But look what happened last year: Rathergate, the biggest media story of the year, and Drudge repeatedly found himself linking to blogs.

In fact, there were long stretches where Drudge didn't link *anything at all*. At the time I found it odd, but after some thought, I think the only conclusion is that Drudge's ego suffers from a Not Invented Here streak.

His streak is most certainly nowhere near as bad as the NIH streak we've come to expect from the MSM, but still. . . why would the all-powerful Drudge feel compelled to follow the scoops and stories of other bloggers. Doesn't that mean he has to, you know, stoop a bit?

Perhaps Drudge has a story on this in the works. Perhaps he just didn't grasp the story as quickly as others did, and decided he had nothing new to add other than linking another story (remember, all Drudge usually does is link unless he has his own source to quote on a "FLASH!" page).

My bet? Crossed his radar screen, he's behind the curve, he's waiting to find a good time to jump in and comment-- but if that time doesn't arrive, he won't jump in.

Of course, I say this now. . . watch, he'll start posting on it 24/7 starting Wednesday morning ;-).

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Honestly, I think it's because we became the story last time more so than Dan Rather.

If you have ever heard Rush Limbaugh say the word "blog", then you know there are more people uncomfortable with us than just Andrew Heyward. And from what I'm hearing, Hannity appeared to be out of the loop when the subject came up tonight.

It's possible we might have to run this ball a bit farther than last time.

I'm afraid this story just doesn't have legs. Too many people have become accustomed this kind of bullshit from the left and have become inured to it. We've gottn to a point where it seems normal. Only direct action can change this. If we boycotted his employer things would change rapidly and these types would become more careful about what they say in public. Until we boycott this will only continue.

THE RIGHT MUST BOYCOTT!!!

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
