Ward Churchill Update

Pardon the constant linking to Instapundit today, but the man is on fire.

Jeff Goldstein of Protein Wisdom strongly defended Churchill's purported right to say whatever he likes about the usefulness of terrorism; but he also suggested that there may be other reasons to can Churchill, and that we ought to be looking very closely at such reasons.

Well, looks like we have such reasons after all. And I'm not just talking about his very debatable status as Native American.

Thomas Brown, a professor of sociology at Lamar University, has written a paper that outlines what looks like a more conventional form of academic fraud on Churchill's part. According to Brown, Churchill fabricated a story about the U.S. Army intentionally creating a smallpox epidemic among the Mandan tribe in 1837, by simply inventing almost all of the story's most crucial facts, and then attributing these "facts" to sources that say nothing of the kind.

"One has only to read the sources that Churchill cites to realize the magnitude of his fraudulent claims for them," Brown writes. "We are not dealing with a few minor errors here. We are dealing with a story that Churchill has fabricated almost entirely from scratch. The lack of rationality on Churchill's part is mind-boggling." (Brown's essay can be read here.)

Well! That ought to do it, then!

We can get rid of this seditious bastard and still protect the left's "right" to make perfect jackasses out of itself, without academic consequences, at every available opportunity.

Well, alright then - a result based on such information would serve a useful purpose (getting rid of a shyster), without hindering others.

Of course, the howling and moaning at his exit from academia, should such exit occur, will still be focused on some bullshit violation of his freedom of expression, but such howls won't pass the giggle test.

[Post deleted for unnecessary attack on Jeff Goldstein, who I think is principled but wrong on this controversary. -- ace]

He made up scurrilous bullshit about the US Army? Make him head of CNN!

Posted by: someone on February 8, 2005 05:47 PM

Now they can frag the f*cker.

Most times, the university goes after conservatives for "intolerant speech." I just didn't want a Churchill dismissal based on an academic speech issue to give the leftist orthodoxy any ammunition with which to justify attacks.

I have about 6 threads on the subject, Ron. Why not leave your thoughts in one of those?

Posted by: Jeff G on February 8, 2005 05:52 PM

Just so you know, I deleted that comment, Jeff.

So he's got tenure and a contract.

How about shipping him off to open a new one-man UC campus in Darfur? Ivory Coast? Mogadishu? Port au Prince?

Let's see how the Janjaweed like some fresh long pork.

Posted by: recon on February 8, 2005 06:13 PM

Jeff Goldstein is principled?

Posted by: on February 8, 2005 06:29 PM

Firing him with no other reason than his pro-terrorist statements in no way compromises his first amendment rights. His rights give him the right to say whatever but in no way guarantee him a paid venue to do it. This latest revealtion is great, but unnecessary. Saying otherwise would be like saying you violated Ron's rights by deleting his post. You didn't.

If anyone cares, over at LGF there have been several Churchill threads, and the Dershowitz thread from this morning is turning into one. There are many tasty links. Look under the nics Sarah D., Ariana, mommydoc and (ahem) Dianna.

By the way, I need to acknowlege my debt to lauraw for an initial link that led to some fruitful lines of investigation. I owe her, and I have made it a point to acknowlege that she found the link first almost every time I mentioned it.

Posted by: Dianna on February 8, 2005 07:02 PM

Jeff Goldstein is principled?

Behind the po-faced postmodern facade, yes. Quite so. It strikes me as silly for any fan of Ace to hate on Goldstein, since I've always seen them as alternating faces of the conservative avatar of Vishnu, if you dig my cod-Hindu drift.

I can DEFINITELY emotionally understand Ace's point of view, but in the end sided with Jeff on this issue. Now everybody's happy, 'cause the fucker can be taken down for perfectly legitimate academic reasons. I'd be interested in knowing what "Ron" said, by the way...I wish that hadn't been deleted. I think these comment sections are perfectly capable of self-correction.

Posted by: Jeff B. on February 8, 2005 09:14 PM

What the hell is a cod-Hindu ? Is it some kind of oceanic cult that worships a sacred seacow?

What could Ron have said that was worse than Cedarfords rant about the Evil of Goldsteins Jew semen?

Was Cedarford banned?

Posted by: 20,000 amish on February 8, 2005 09:26 PM

Cedarford? Yeah, I fucked him. LIKE A VIKING!

Sorry, I was channeling the Diceman there for a minute. I'll try not to let it happen again.

If you miss cedartroll you can enjoy watching him get bitch slapped over at the belmont club. One of the commenters even linked Ace's site (specifically the Ward Churchill thread from the other day) to prove what a sleaze ball cedartroll is. But please, when you're done, leave him over there. Thank you.

Spewfan -

I can take a slapping from a simpering 'lil bitch like you.

The facts still stand. Ward Churchill is mentored by a pack of red diaper babies led by the likes of Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Nancy Rabinowitz. They backed his books of delirium financially, gave him intros of lavish praise, set up his lucrative speaking tours. And, as the investigation focuses on how Churchill could ever be hired, granted tenure, and advance to Department Head despite 2 matchbook degrees and being unable to produce a Master's thesis - we will see if those red diaper babies have anything to do with it.

20,000 Amish goat lovers - As for Jeff G's "insidious Jewish sperm", his words, not mine. I merely explored (crassly & crudely) the futility of his being likely to continue his line with his "insidious Jewish sperm". When 1/2 the Jewish women prefer non-Jewish mates, guys like Jeff are in trouble.

Posted by: Cedarford on February 8, 2005 11:23 PM

Damn you Cedarford-you found me out.
19,999 more to go...

Posted by: busted amish on February 8, 2005 11:29 PM

Actually, Ward Churchill and Cedarford have something in common.

Prior to this incident, Mr. Churchill's scholarly reputation was based mainly on a squalid tract called "A Little Matter of Genocide" (1997), in which he argued that the murder of European Jews was not at all a "fixed policy objective of the Nazis" and accused Jews of seeking to monopolize for themselves all that beautiful Holocaust suffering that other groups would very much like, ex post facto, to share.
He argued that Jewish "exclusivism" had nearly erased from history the victims of other genocidal campaigns, and that Jewish scholars stressed the Holocaust in order to "construct a conceptual screen behind which to hide the realities of Israel's ongoing genocide against the Palestinian population."
He not only likened Jewish scholars who have argued for the unique character of the Holocaust to neo-Nazi Holocaust deniers, he said that the Jews are worse than the latter-day Nazis because "those who deny the Holocaust, after all, focus their distortion upon one target. Those [Jewish scholars] who deny all holocausts other than that of the Jews have the same effect upon many."
Given the current academic atmosphere, it is a safe bet that what might delicately be called Mr.Churchill's shortage of sympathy in the Jewish direction made him a strong candidate to head Colorado's Ethnic Studies program.
Big surprise, eh.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
