Blocked By the Pentagon?

Just got a tip that the Pentagon has blocked this site as being Mature/Adult content.

For crying out loud.

Anyone know how to get me off of the Pentagon's blocked list?

This sucks. I don't know if this is just the Pentagon or a ban from all military servers, but suddenly I'm not seeing .mil and .af extensions in my referral lists.

Update: I am seeing army.mil and af.mil and navy.mil extensions in my referrals, so hopefully this banning is just restricted to the offices of the Joint Chiefs.

Ace--

I'll check you out in the morning, but I'd be very surprised if this were anything more than temporary.

For one, at least in the Air Force, we don't use content blockers at Headquarters, unless they just put them in tonight without telling anyone (if they did, I will be *very* pissed at work tomorrow, I can assure you).

However, from time to time I know I've had trouble accessing your site-- like, down for hours trouble-- that never looked like a problem on your site.

Although, given that you're publicizing it here, I'm guessing you've gotten a couple of emails to that effect tonight?

Hmmm. . .

Inquisitive,

The Pentagon probably blocked your site because you linked to a story about female mudwrestlers. The American military is way to classy to be associated with smut like that.

Either that, or the posts about how hot the Ukraine's Prime Minister is did it. Okay, probably not. ;)

Dave,

Thanks for looking into it.

And yes, I got an email to that effect... cc'd to you, I think.

Granted, I wrote Whoreblogging, and I use the f-word too much, and all of that, but how the hell does that make a site mature/adult?

Posted by: ace on February 7, 2005 11:48 PM

Sondra K got through just by sending an e-mail and asking. Check her blog, give it a shot.

Ace--

I just got an email from someone saying the same thing, that my site is now blocked for Mature/Adult content.

Which, when you think about my site, is pretty damn funny, since neither Mature nor Adult are words I'd ever use to describe my writing.

However, the email I got was from somebody over at the Joint Staff, and they're on a different server than me (at least), so perhaps it's only an isolated situation?

Or, perhaps, the internet just got a lot lonelier tonight.

Hmmm.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Okay, writing past each other.

I'll check in the morning, email you if it ain't workin'.

Cheers,
Dave

Ace, you think that's bad? I just got INDICTED for "intimidation" by a local prosecutor I've been blogging about.

If that's not over-the-fucking-top,I don't know what is.

Dave,

Yeah, I got the same email. Maybe it's just at the actual pentagon or something...

When I was in Kuwait, I was blocked from my own website by the army. Made posting a bitch.

Websense is evil evil evil!

Posted by: Kevin on February 8, 2005 12:40 AM

It's probably a block on .mu.nu sites. Your and others' comments sections won't allow me to link my site because f/2/g.net (without slashes), my host, is filtered. In fact, I had to separate it here because it won't even allow the address in post text. A rather ham-handed way to block content.

Posted by: Slowking Man on February 8, 2005 04:02 AM

Ace, you're working fine in my little corner of the Pentagon. Then again, as I said before, we don't have content blockers.

Looks like a problem with the Joint Staff. No big loss; the purple people are all weird down there, what with their "warfighting" and stuff.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

The logic of the blockers is unfathomable. One of my clients blocks the theonion.com but not theonion.org, which is a mirror site.

Good luck with the bureaucracy. Getting off the list may be a huge pain. The price of popularity I guess.

The logic of the blockers is indeed unfathomable. Back when I was working for the federal judiciary, we used to keep a list of the most ridiculous blocked sites. High on the list was the Vatican Library, which I'm not sure we ever got the powers that be to de-block.

Ace,

The military doesn't block anybody. They go off of what the makers of their software (Smartfilter, Websense) put on the block list. Trust me, the last thing guys who work in Information Protection want to do is sit there and be net-nannies all day.

Anybody who visits a site can call their base Information Protection/Info Awareness and request a site be unblocked. In this case, though, the person really wouldn't have a leg to stand on. IP is not obligated to open up a non-official business site to anybody. My suggestion? Ask really nicely. It really is a base-by-base kind of thing. Hope this helps.

I have a 1972 memo saying you've been banned because you missed a physical you were ordered to take.

Don't worry, Staudt is putting pressure on them to sugarcoat it.

I put in a call to the JS help desk. Hopefully he'll give me a call back tomorrow, Interestingly, Garfield Ridge and Wizbang aren't blocked but Wonkette is. Our net access is screwy there in Purple Land.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
