Blog At Your Own Risk

The MSM is firing reporters or employees who blog.

It's happened to someone I know. You think the NY Post is actually conservative? Well, not really. They play that angle because that's their niche market, but most of the reporters and editors there are as liberal as those at the New York Times.

Not only did the fire Dawn Eden for what seems to have been a very minor transgression -- their real beef seeming to be her blog -- but they couldn't even let it go at that. Now unknown parties (although we might guess at a few of them) are smearing her in Women's Wear Daily.

Not that her blog wasn't an irritation, but I suspect the REAL reason she was canned is she was *eight months pregnant* AND her employer was able to find an excuse to dump her -- and avoid paying maternity leave , paying her insurance, holding her position open or worrying about her work suffering after the baby or having her up and leave after getting all her benefits, etc. yet at the same time avoid litigation that would follow firing a pregnant person without a reason.

I've often thought that, discretion being the better part of valor, perhaps I should have launched by blog anonymously. Oh well, too late now.

Eight months pregnant? Just to clarify, you must be speaking of the woman fired in the first article, not Dawn Eden.

And they say Ace doesn't live dangerously.

Though this seems harsh, employers can discipline their people for blogging. I really hate to say that, but let's stick to the truth: your employer has a right to fire you if you're doing something not work related on company time. And we'd all be cheering if this person was fired for blogging Lefty trash.

But this give me great pause for thought ...

Yes - I was referring to the firing of Rachel Mosteller (Sarcastic Journalist), whose blogvengeance dismissal was discussed in the first link....not Dawn Eden.

It's icky that someone would plant a fake story about Eden, wouldn't wish to add to the other fake stories going around.

I heard she was actually fired for suggesting that "when the last tree is felled, Christ will return" to justify her excessive use of the office supply of white bond letter size copy paper.

72V, who says that any of these people were blogging "on company time"? Your statement that "employers can discipline their people for blogging" is a wee bit broad. As the article points out, in many states (including NY), an employer can't fire an employee for off-hours/off-premises recreational activities, unless those activities create a material conflict of interest related to trade secrets or proprietary info. (BTW, I never saw any Postie trade secrets on Dawn's blog.) Seems to me that that definition leaves a whole lot of room for lawful off-hours blogging about the workplace.

Blog on, sisters and brothers.

Oh, and the post immediately above is mine.

Makes me glad that my blog is (a) private (b) not written under my real name. Total safety! Except for the fact that I'm not employed anyway. Oh well.

Firing employees for "politically incorrect" views is becoming more and more prevalent. Even those employees who never discuss politics at work can still find themselves out of a job.

Dan Schildhauer was an employee of Cabela's, a leading outdoor, hunting and fishing store chain. Apparently he had an excellent work record, a reliable employee, the whole bit. He was suspended and eventually fired for distributing leaflets protesting American immigration policies on his own time. Can he sue? No. Because Cabela?s has exercised its ?right to terminate at-will employment?.

It doesn't matter if you disagree with Schildhauer's political views or not. What's frightening is he was fired for voicing them outside the workplace.

Posted by: W. Smith on February 8, 2005 01:18 AM

The Cabela's boycott is a big issue for the White Power nutjobs -- the loony who got fired for being a great big racist nutjob was a member of whatever White Power organization "W. Smith" is affiliated with. "Smith" is too much of a coward, and understands all too well how repugnant and sick his views are, to come out and say he's a hateful White Power nutjob. They're like that.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
