Yawn: CAIR Complains About Insensitive Portrayal of Terrorists on 24

Enough already. There are genuine terrorists out there, and, I'm sorry to say, most of them happen to be Muslim.

Being a tolerant, multicultural sort of guy (really! but not to extremes), I do wish in fact that terrorist evil were more of an equal-opportunity endeavor, with terrorist cells made up precisely how TV shows usually depict violent street gangs (one black, one Hispanic, one Asian, and one white guy who always wears a mohawk). Because, you know, uneducated, violent street thugs are renown the world over for being among the most tolerant and multiculturally-attuned people on the face of the earth.

That's how gangs look, you know. Multi-ethnic.

I wish that the problem of global megaterrorism did not implicate one particular discreet ethnic group.

But it largely -- almost exclusively, actually -- does. That's reality.

And Hollywood, which apologizes for its occasionally nasty fare with the excuse that "we're just showing the world as it is," seems pretty damn uncomfortable with "just showing the world as it is" with respect to this one problem, the central problem of our age.

And, as Dave points out, even when Muslim terrorists are involved, they're almost always just patsies being used by Evil White Guys, anyway.

Serbians and Slavs seem to be the favorite Evil White Guys of the moment. I don't think that's really fair, either, but I don't hear them complaining. At least not too loudly.

One disagreement with Dave-- how did the masterful film True Lies depict Muslims in a stereotypical fashion? Bear in mind, it wasn't depicting Muslims so much as Muslim terrorists, and the film included the obligatory (but necessary) good Muslim on Arnold's team.

Ace--

True Lies always struck me as being too comical with its portrayal of Muslims. The whole "incompentent boob raghead" deal.

Sure, they were terrorists, and we can laugh at terrorists, but I guess I didn't really laugh.

Maybe what bothered me most wasn't that True Lies made all the Muslim terrorists cardboard victims for Arnie's patented necktwist of doom as it seemed to belittle the threat that some of us (very few of us) feared even then.

It's okay to ignore the bad guys when they're simply the Three Stooges with AK-47's. It's another thing entirely when they're complex, three-dimensional characters who just happen to want to murder every man, woman and child who won't worship their God.

Anyways, that's my beef with True Lies (actually, *one* of my beefs-- it's probably my least favorite Ahnuld film, but that's for another time).

The street gangs in the "Beat It" video were all multi-ethnic. Are you telling me that wasn't an accurate portrayal of hood life?

Dave, how can you dislike "True Lies" when it has Jamie Lee doing that little dance? That alone makes it my hubby's favorite Arnold film. He loves the whole MILF thing.

Carin, I'll grant you that Jamie Lee had an amazing body in that film (even if it's no "Perfect" ;-).

However, she's got a face that can cut glass. And she's got man-hands.

Other than that, yeah, she's hot.

I'd like to protest the unfair portrayal of small town midwestern preachers and parishoners in the film Footloose.

Maybe you metro-types think its ok for kids to dance...that's up to you, I reckon. If you want Kevin Bacon in your town stirring up the pot, flying around in empty grain mills at night and tempting young girls to their eternal damnation, its your own business.

But don't go pushing your values down our throats by portraying us as small minded backwater bible-thumpers.

Why shouldn't the Muslim terrorists be comical when the entire movie was such? This is the same movie that had Charlton eston doing an homage to Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.E.I.L.D., which might have been good casting if they'd optioned the movie rights during the Steranko era. This movie also had Tom Arnold. No film with Tom Arnold can have a serious depiction of terrorists.

Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held.

STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.

I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens.

Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs.
Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
