Distortion: McCain Did Not Quite Support Kofi Annan

I was pretty surprised to read the headline that John McCain was defending Annan, and ready to tear him (another) new one.

But he didn't quite do that. The piece was written by Oliver-Willis-fan Joe Conason-- consider the source. And consider what McCain actually said:

Asked whether he believes that Mr. Annan should step down, the Arizona Republican and outspoken hawk replied, "No. I think that we should have a full and complete investigation and then make decisions like that. Am I disturbed when I hear that his son was on payroll? Of course I’m disturbed about it, and apparently Kofi Annan was [disturbed] also." He added, "I think Coleman is kind of a symptom of some dissatisfaction within Congress about the U.N.—but no, I think we need a full and complete investigation, and there’s plenty of time to decide whether people should keep their jobs or not."

Sure, I wish McCain were more forward-leaning on this, and yes, I think he's wrong about the need, at this point, to collect more evidence before making some judgments.

Still, McCain seems to be making a limited proceduralist statement -- "Let us do these things in proper order, and at the proper time" -- rather than "disdaining" Annan's GOP critics, as Conason claims in his headline.

Perhaps McCain said additional things off-the-record. Perhaps, but I'm inclined to believe that Joe Conason is just being the normal dishonest hack he's always been.

McCain didn't mince words when he said he didn't support Rummy. Why's he tiptoein' around Kofi? Maybe he doesn't want to piss off his buddies in the MSM?

That is always a viable theory re: McCain. The man loves the MSM love.

He's a preening prima donna, no doubt. And sure, he's probably attempting to seem "moderate" and "reasonable" to continue his unending good press from the NYT editorial page.

Still, he didn't say quite what Conason claims he said, and I don't think it's fair to pretend otherwise.

Even if he is a bit of a prick.

And here I thought he was up to his old tricks again.

Perhaps it's correctly reported and this is how McCain really feels. What's the big deal? So many times people just jump down politician's throats.

It is my grave misfortune to be an Arizona native, born and bred, and a third generation native too, not a johnny-come-lately snowbird. My grave misfortune is having John McCain as one of my senators. From past dealings with the man, I can assure you he really is a self-serving, two-faced, turncoat bastard and in no way should he any longer be allowed to call himself a conservative.

Trust me, Ace, the man is more than just a "bit of a prick."

How he continues to deceive Arizonans into re-electing him is beyond me, but then, I've never been able to understand how Ted Kennedy has remained a senator practically since before God created dirt.

Immediately prior to 9/11, there was a recall drive here to oust that s.o.b. from office and it had a fighting chance to succeed, untill all hell broke loose after the 9/11 attacks.

McCain is one of the most opportunistic weasels that ever existed. He and John Kerry are cut from the same cloth. Don't even get me started on John McCain. He's MY senator, not yours, and I'm the one who has to live with the jackass representing me. It makes me want to retch and heave.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.

Politico is reporting that multiple people have abruptly resigned from Eric Swalwell's gubernatorial campaign: "Members of senior leadership have departed the campaign, including Courtni Pugh, a strategic adviser who served as Swalwell's top liaison to organized labor groups."

So the campaign is collapsing due to the truth of the sexual harassment allegations.
That hissing sound you hear is the air going out of the Swalwell campaign. UPDATE: No it wasn't, it was just Swalwell one-cheek-sneaking out a fart on camera

When I linked Donnie Iris's "Love is Like a Rock," everyone said they knew that one and that his other song (which I didn't know at all) Ah Leah! was huge in their area.
