I Guess Andrew Sullivan Really Is Anti-Tax

I don't really want to pick on anybody over something like this, but 1) it's Andrew Sullivan and 2) he doesn't owe very much money, so he'll be okay.

sullivanforeclose.jpg

I don't need to consult Johnny Coldcuts to know that, sometime in the not-too-distant future, I will be reading the words "Pledge Drive," "extensive improvements to the site-design," and "ever-escalating bandwidth costs."

H/t to the PunditGuy.

Geez, ya'd think that New Republic gig wasn't getting him anything.

Posted by: Bithead on December 3, 2004 12:22 PM

First thing I think when I see this article: Man, I can't believe they printed his address!

Posted by: Mike on December 3, 2004 12:22 PM

Wow. You really just can't make this sorta shit up.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on December 3, 2004 12:30 PM

Man, you would've thought that he could have paid his taxes with his last pledge drive...

Posted by: zombyboy on December 3, 2004 12:36 PM

Ace, that entire post was gob-smackingly vile.

Posted by: Josh Martin on December 3, 2004 12:47 PM

That's what you get for living in Taxachussetts.

Posted by: B.O.T. on December 3, 2004 01:08 PM

gob-smackingly vile

Is this a "Sullivan"-ism? If so, wunderschon.

If not, eh...I'm not going to lie. This brought a smile to my face. I still feel like he burned me.

Posted by: Jeff B. on December 3, 2004 02:20 PM

Here's a rule:

Mocking any AIDS-related problems Andrew Sullivan might have: not okay.

Mocking his dereliction of basic responsibility in failing to pay a pittance's worth of property taxes: okay.

I mean, this isn't the fucking House of Sand and Fog now, is it?

Posted by: on December 3, 2004 02:22 PM

OK.someone has to make the joke, so I will step up to the plate...

"It it wasn't for all those damn tolls on the Hershey Highway, I could have had the money to pay these taxes ages ago!"

Johnny Coldcuts wrote that for me, so send hate mail to him.

Posted by: Senator PhilABuster on December 3, 2004 02:31 PM

For goodness's sake - Ace's Sully-bashing is the main thing that brings me back here 27 times a day. My talismanic use of Sully's trademark (at least to me) phrase "gob-smackingly vile" (used in response to Miller's GOP convention speech) in response to any post related to Sully is meant to be funny. I gather it is not.

Posted by: Josh Martin on December 3, 2004 02:35 PM

Aw, crap. Where's he gonna summer with the beagle now?

Posted by: Rocketeer on December 3, 2004 02:43 PM

Josh,

Actually it's sort of an "in joke" around here. Since it only shows up in the comments, it could really be called an "in-in joke".

For what it's worth I think it's damn funny everythime you post that, as I remember Sully's original comment and the first time you used that against ace. :)

Posted by: Senator PhilABuster on December 3, 2004 02:44 PM

I fully support Mr. Martin's talismanic use of Mr. Sullivan's trademark phrase in a mocking manner. It is very funny, though not quite as funny as the Hershey Highway comment that the Good Senator from Philabuster just channeled into here from Johnny Coldcuts!

Posted by: Sharkman on December 3, 2004 02:47 PM

So much for the idea that appeasement to the 'right' ideas brings good press.

"We're beginning to see the real agenda of the religious right." Must be those "theocrats" on a "witch hunt" to promote their "half-baked evangelical message" by "spreading fear, ignorance and chauvinism."

"Words fail me."

(All quotes from Andrew Sullivan, 2004)

Posted by: Slubgob on December 3, 2004 02:55 PM

You forgot to use "alas," Slubgob. You haven't really gotten to Sully's tedious prolix essence unless you use more "alases."

Posted by: Rocketeer on December 3, 2004 03:14 PM

Are you sure that's not a picture of Christopher Lowell?

Posted by: on December 3, 2004 03:31 PM

Couldn't happen to a nicer quisling. :)

I wonder if Provincetown has a bicycle tax?

Posted by: Dave in Texas on December 3, 2004 04:27 PM

Sully owns property in P-town, aka the gayest place on earth.

I'm shocked. shocked.

Posted by: sonofnixon on December 3, 2004 05:14 PM

Johnny Coldcuts finds the usurption of his moniker gob-smackingly vile.

Posted by: eric on December 3, 2004 07:38 PM

Come on Andrew, chill.

The tax assessor is speaking. Even if you might not like what he has to say.

Posted by: Charles on December 3, 2004 07:39 PM

Seriously, an inability to deal with minor responsibilities can be an indication of drug and alcohol abuse. Best thing the town can do is tail him before he runs somebody's kid over!

Posted by: Philip on December 3, 2004 07:42 PM

Yes, yes, but where were the catologing of Andy's bowel movements in all of this?

And P-Town only taxes bicycle seats.

Posted by: Iblis on December 3, 2004 08:25 PM

Josh,

I don't mind your calling my post gob-smackingly vile.

God knows, I'm not the easiest person to offend.

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
