Who Passed the Forgeries to the DNC/CBS?

CrushKerry says it has a source in the DNC, and that they suspect MoveOn.org of being the culprits.

Even if true, that wouldn't mean that MoveOn.org actually created the forgeries. It would only suggest they had a hand in suckering a senile old coot into believing them.

Actually, the suspicions run a little hotter than that in the Kerry camp, according to CrushKerry. But you'll just have to click on the link for that.

Via Kerry Spot, which Jim Geraghty admits has become more of a Rather Spot of late.

A Good Question: Karol, who fresh from covering the RNC, wants to know, assuming CrushKerry's DNC source is on to something, "Wouldn't that also mean that illegal coordination is going on between the DNC and Move On?"

Well, Karol, I'm sure that our hard-nosed investigative media -- which will vigorously pursue any story, no matter which party it might damage, because it's the story that matters, not its political impact -- will answer that question for us any minute now.

Any. Minute. Now.

What about a Clintonite mole in the Kerry camp?

One aspect of this story that has received too little attention is just how lame these forgeries were. I have enough confidence in the evil genius of Karl Rove that he would not put out such crappy hoaxes and expect CBS to self immolate with them. This story required
a) people with such a grudge against Bush that they would lie to ensure his defeat
b) that these same people be so dumb/lazy that they couldn't either craft a competent forgery or buy a damn IBM Selectric and
c) a left leaning media giant who so wanted the documents to be true that they would be willing to stake their careers on their validity.

What are the odds?

While many in the blogosphere are busy patting themselves on their pixels, I think we should realize how much worse this could have been. I have been expecting a document dump closer to the election (desperation probably prompted this). How much damage could a well done set of forgeries have done in a tight election? It is possible that the TANG fakes will serve as a needed vaccination against media credulity, but I would still prepare for worse to come.

I don't believe it was Moveon.org for the following two reasons:

(1) This was the opening salvo of a highly orchestrated DNC-based campaign. We had Terry McCauliffe promising we would hear all about Bush's National Guard record until the election; we had Susan Estrich promising dirty tricks; and we had John Stasso, a noted dirty-trickster, joining Kerry's camp--all in the past two weeks. I don't think they would allow the timing, etc. to be removed from their hands by the flakes at Moveon.

(2) CBS has repeatedly declared its confidence in the provenance of the documents. They might trust their friends at the DNC, but I can't see them putting their necks on the line for the goofballs at Moveon.

These docs definitely passed through the hands of either someone like Bill Burkett, the Kerry campaign or the DNC, IMHO.

The eventual admission of forgery is a race between CBS and USA Today. With the major papers saying they are outright forgeries now, or casting serious doubt - CBS has to worry that USA Today, with none of the stakes in this that CBS has will say they were duped. Worse, identify the common source.

Anyway you look at it, the WHODUNIT part will dominate the rest of the story. Some in the media think "shielding the source" is an automatic given - but I differ, in that other media have disclosed the hoaxer they were duped by to show they weren't in on the conspiracy - as in the Hitler Diaries, the falsely accused Border agent who was victimized by false documents signed in his name by a disgruntled subordinant. (Another hoax CBS was duped by).

I suspect there is mounting pressure in the CBS Entertainment Boardroom and in their owner, Viacom's, Boardroom to do what is needed to protect the CBS brand. I suspect the legal exposure for covering up Federal election tampering by shielding the forger's name in the name of "journalistic 1st Amendment Rights" is high, since if CBS admits forgery occured, they really can't stand on the freedom for them to use fake documents to deceive the public and keep the forger(s) safe from consequence. That would just open up the door in state and Federal elections for others to freely use forged or faked documents in an effort to dupe other media, deceive the public, and tamper with an election outcome.

I anticipate both the Bush and Kerry campaigns to put pressure on CBS to come clean on the source after they admit they were scammed, as well as pressure from CBS shareholders, CBS news advertisers, and the public. Kerry's people? Yep, them more than anyone, assuming they were innocent of this and it involved liberals from outside the campaign.

"I have enough confidence in the evil genius of Karl Rove that he would not put out such crappy hoaxes and expect CBS to self immolate with them."

Aha! See, if they were good forgeries, people would naturally suspect that the DNC, Moveon, ACT, PETA, whoever, would be behind it. But, they are so pathetic that no one suspects the DNC. (Or the Spanish Inquisition. No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.) Instead, the conclusion is that someone wanted the forgeries to be found, and that naturally puts the spotlight on the RNC, NRA, AEI, Ralph Nader, evil-Garth Night Rider, etc. So, we have to ask, who would gain from this? John Kerry, of course! This is the old double-reverse-23-skiddoo operation. Quite obvious when you think about it.

Unless, Karl Rove already thought of that...

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
Whoops! I posted about Dan Goldman losing the NY congressional primary. He might do that, but it won't be tonight -- the primary isn't held until June 23.
One race to keep an eye on: the Levi's heir nepo baby and egregious "Designated Liar" Dan Goldman -- one of the Democrats from a safe district Democrats send out to spread their most indefensible lies -- may actually lose his lower Manhattan/Brooklyn set due to, get this, antisemitism in the Democrat primary electorate.
Antisemitism? In the anti-Nazi Democrat Party? Sounds crazy, I know, but apparently the anti-Nazi Party wants to eliminate Jews.

Democrat Senator Rueben Gallego, who served his wife with divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant so that he could marry his side-piece, counsels us that we should not judge Graham Platner for his infidelity because these things are personal matters, Racists:

Sahil Kapur
@sahilkapur

Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Platner: "We know that Graham has lived not your typical political experience. He's been very clear and open with his wife, and they worked through whatever they worked through. At the end of the day, this man has had 60 more town halls than Susan Collins has. He's winning the polls, he's willing to accept that he has grown as a person, and I think we should accept that."

Gallego says the drip-drip of revelations won't harm Platner's campaign.

"I think you guys are all in a bubble here right now. The drip, drip that's actually happening is Americans are really, really hurt the fact that gas is still high, food is still high, they can't buy a home, you can't afford rent. They're not going to care about text messages and everything else like that that happened years ago, especially when it was worked out between spouses."

I like that he says that it's okay that Graham Platner sexted 12 different women within months of marrying the woman to sponge off her because he wasn't then "living a political life" -- the clear meaning being, "We all cheat, we just don't cheat when we're running for office, and he didn't know he was running for office when he was sending dicpics to half the women he ran into."
Except he was running: His own wife turned the sexts over to his campaign.
And obviously Reuben Gallego didn't let his "political life" get in the way of his extramarital dating life:
