Media: Uranium-to-Niger Only Newsworthy When Source is LyingIn the off chance you haven't seen this, turns out that the media was a lot more eager to run stories about Joe Wilson's charges than the debunking of those exact charges:
How is it that the exact same story can be so newsworthy and important when it's hurting Bush, and yet not newsworthy at all when it turns out to be false and thus, in effect, helping Bush? How can the media have run all these stories and imagine they have no obligation to prominently correct the record that themselves made? More here, here, here, and of course here. posted by Ace at 10:52 PM
CommentsTo be fair, it should be noted that the news media have a short memory (as does much of the viewing public). If this stuff had come up a week after Joe Wilson's book came out, it would have gotten a lot more press. Posted by: Jacob on July 27, 2004 03:28 PM
As a member of said news media, I can say that at least at the NATIONAL level...I see this to be true for many folks. Associated Press every single hour sends a "NewsMinute" of the 5 or 6 headlines they deem the most important in the nation..Pretty much every single hour, from 11PM through 5AM, they put Kerry's convention speech up top..fine, no problem..the convention's big news. On ONE of those, mention was made of the arrest of the suspect in bombings from 1998 at the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania..a Tanzanian man with Al-Quaida links. This man happened to be among the TOP 22 WANTED TERRORISTS by the FBI. I have to question their prioritizing when so little is made of this... Posted by: Greg Rumpff on July 30, 2004 08:44 AM

Update to the video of a Russian soldier being spun around and thrown by the machinegun he was operating: The soldier was testing an old, archaic Russian machinegun intended to be mounted to a helicopter. The old gun was pressed into service as a possible anti-drone gun. The Russian army is generally depleted and being forced to bring a lot of old, unreliable weapons and platforms to the front.
