UPDATE: No Hazmat in Agawam, Mass.

Thanks a lot to Scherado for following this and alerting me to the resolution. Third item:

(Agawam) -- Federal officials say materials thought to be suspicious in an Agawam home pose no threat. But the officials and Agawam police still arrested Michael Crooker at his home for federal firearms charge. When they were searching his house, authorities say they found some suspicious materials that were later determined not to be a threat. They would be elaborate. A-T-F spokesman Jim McNally says Crooker is a convicted felon.

Sorry to worry everyone. But that was what my source told me.

[Originally: Explosives-Making Materials, Possible Chemical Weapons Discovered at Massachusetts Apartment]

Michelle Malkin blogs the discovery of explosives and possibly chemicals in an Agawam, Mass., apartment by DHS officers.

A source in federal law-enforcement tells me that federal agents specializing in Hazmat disposal have been summoned to the site. The fear is -- only a fear -- that it's possibly Sarin.

Treat that last bit as chatter among law-enforcement types, but among the LEO's concerned.

Big deal. After the discovery of Sarin in Iraq, a liberal guest on Hannity and Colmes assured Sean that Sarin is not, in fact, a weapon of mass destruction. And she wouldn't lie, because she's a liberal.

Take that, Sean Hannity!

Could it be that the senator from Massachusets hasn't been doing his part for homeland security? Mercy me, how could I take such a cheap, opportunistic pot shot?

I found this at http://www.wwlp.com/news/briefs2.html:

Thanks so much for that update, Scherado.

I am posting this just to push Scherado's post down off the last ten posts.

Posted by: Smitty on June 24, 2004 01:18 AM

The trouble is that when you post a link within the first hundred characters, the whole link gets posted in the sidebar, which bloats out its width and screws up the whole look of the page.

Posted by: Smitty on June 24, 2004 01:19 AM

I can edit a comment and break up a long link into two parts if its one of the last five comments.

But Sherado's comment was number seven. So I couldn't edit.

Okay: Pushed Scherado's post down.

Sorry for all the filler posts. But I hate the bloated-sidebar bug.

The Boston Herald is reporting ricin at the house. Put a link at S.O.N. -- or you could go right to the Herald, but why would you do want to do that?

BIG NEWS UPDATE NOT FIRED

From her lawyer

"The irresponsible reports that have been published stating that Maria Bartiromo was fired or is no longer an employee of Fox are absolutely and unequivocally false," Freedman said Friday. "Make no mistake, we have the receipts and witnesses and they will come out whether through the courthouse or otherwise."

He added: "Those reporting her firing or the incredulous facts supporting that fiction have exhibited a complete and utter reckless disregard for the truth."

from anon2020
So what, she quit?
Megyn Kelly (accursed be her name) used to say all the time that Fox has a top female PR person who is a nasty pitbull and leaks nasty claims about anyone Fox is at war with, including those who have left the network. So I guess maybe she technically resigned? I don't know.
NEW: @FoxNews has obtained Lindsay Clancy defense attorney Kevin Reddington's appeal filing to the MA Supreme Court, which includes Reddington accusing the lone holdout juror of being "biased" against those with "debilitating mental illness", which he says is a protected category.

Holiday Break: I've had a rough couple of weeks -- the shoulder is healing now and I'm finally getting decent sleep -- and I've decided to take a long weekend.
I'm taking Friday off, and then Monday off, too.
I have Open Threads for both days and I will post if big news breaks, but if it doesn't -- and it probably won't, news is slow before a holiday weekend -- I'm going to take a four day weekend.
