Good morning kids. No April Fooling! Make no mistake, since the miracle of Trump's first term and bigger miracle of surviving the slings, arrows and literal bullets fired at him and his incredible landslide victory and mandate of last November leading to the wild successes and ramping up of policies to put this nation and society back on the track from which it was derailed for so long, the forces of criminal tyranny are acing like the cornered, rabid rats that they are and lashing out.
The behavior of Democrat supporters is quite reminiscent of the behavior of Palestinian suicide bombers.
Imagine being present in the moments before a suicide bomber sets off his charge on a crowded Tel Aviv street. Before he presses the button and causes death and destruction, you speak with him for a moment.
“Has anyone here done anything bad to you personally?”
“No.”. ... One can say that there is no comparison between a suicide bomber who sets out to kill civilians and a leftist who disfigures or destroys a Tesla car. And certainly, by outcomes, one would have a valid point. The key issue is how both the bomber and the guy making swastikas on somebody else’s car arrived at their points of action. Both have been brainwashed.
A 70-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly striking an Elon Musk supporter with his vehicle during an anti-Tesla rally outside a dealership in Meridian, Idaho, according to local law enforcement. ABC News reports that on Saturday, approximately 30 people gathered outside a Tesla dealership in Meridian, Idaho, to protest against the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, and his role in the Trump administration’s federal job cuts. The protest was overshadowed by a counter-protest of about 200 individuals. According to the Meridian Police Department, as a 49-year-old counter-protester arrived at the scene, Christopher Talbot, 70, of Meridian, allegedly made an obscene gesture toward him before striking him with his car.
Coons criticized President Donald Trump’s plan to purchase Greenland from Denmark and make it U.S. territory for resource and national security purposes, arguing that the plan will not resonate with the average American because they do not even know where the island is. Trump said no options for acquiring Greenland are off the table, emphasizing that a takeover of the island is a necessity to protect the U.S. against the threat of Russia and China’s increasing influence in the arctic.
The issue is not Greenland. The issue is how an entire political party and movement view the vast majority of citizens who oppose their policies, viewing such opposition as both ignorance and more dangerously as a personal insult to their self-declared right of absolute power and moral authority to lord over us. "By any means necessary." Speaking of which:
Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said Monday on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” that she was training Americans to help take down a potential “dictatorship” of President Donald Trump.
At her resistance lab training, Jayapal said, “It appears that the Trump administration is willing to ignore judicial decisions and so that brings us to you in this room. It brings us to the people that is really, the bulwark, the wall against the crumbling of democracy.”
Maddow said, “Help me understand this idea of the resistance lab and what you’re talking about in practical terms at these events.”
Jayapal said, “Yeah I mean, what we decided is that we really need to help Americans understand what happens when democracies fall when dictators take over. We’ve been pretty complacent in America. We haven’t had to really deal with this in any real way. And now I think people need to understand what are the lessons from other countries and working with experts who have studied democratic backsliding in countries around the world and the resistance movements that emerged to take on that democratic backsliding.”
She added, “We’ve developed a curriculum where we help people understand, how do you go after the pillars of support? Not necessarily the person at the top but the pillars of support that allow that person to continue to have power? And how do you shift allies from being sort of passive opponents to being active supporters of taking down a dictatorship?”
The gall of these filthy degenerates to dare utter the word "democracy" makes me retch. I'd like to know what's cooking in these labs of hers. I will assume Molotov cocktails and pipe bombs.
A Tesla is an easily identifiable target. And if the driver and/or passengers get incinerated in the process, to these fiends it's all about eggs and omelets, and sending a message. Suddenly my mind wanders to the erased southern border, now being sealed. How many latin American gangsters and criminals were set to be, for lack of a better word "groomed" by the Democrats to fill in the ranks along with Antifa, BLM and whoever else to become the Leftist Brownshirts. And how many yet remain? The infrastructure of domestic terrorists goes back to the Vietnam War era and no doubt still remains and there are those in and out of government, grayer, fatter and balder yet as insane as ever and rabid in their hatred of this nation, people and heritage, still champing at the bit to take us down.
The FBI has released long-requested records concerning the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game shooting, which targeted Republican lawmakers. The shooter, James Hodgkinson, opened fire at the Alexandria, Virginia practice session, critically injuring Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA). Hodgkinson was killed by police during the attack.President Donald J. Trump’s newly confirmed FBI Director, Kash Patel, announced the handover of documents to Congress amid years of contention about the agency’s classification of the incident. The FBI had initially termed the attack “suicide by cop” rather than domestic terrorism, a decision that ignited criticism from Republican congressmen demanding transparency and clarity as to how the bureau came to that determination.“I can report that as of 30 minutes ago, the FBI has provided the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence all requested documents related to the Congressional Baseball Game shooting in 2017,” Patel wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He added: “These are documents sought by Capitol Hill officials for almost eight years. Providing these documents was one of our top priorities in delivering a new FBI era of transparency. Thank you to the committee and Chairman Rep. Rick Crawford for your partnership in getting Americans the truth.”In the years following the attack, various government entities, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), labeled Hodgkinson’s actions as domestic terrorism. Critics have argued that the shooter’s act was politically motivated, targeting Republican members who were practicing for an annual game.
Send Dick Durbin and Bernie Sanders to Gitmo to get waterboarded until they confess and divulge their full connection to Hodgknson. Beyond that, the entire Soros criminal enterprise must be RICO'd and dismantled. Much of the subversuion, violent and otherwise has and continues to emanate from his Open Societies liminal enterprise, and others. Hence the freakout over DOGE's work because taxpayer money to the tune of billions has been the other major source of the funding of our annihilation.
Question for Coelacanth Jayapal, how are your resistance labs going to overcome at least 200 million of us armed to the teeth. Our resistance lab is the Second Amendment. Resist that.
Le Pen is not the only person to believe that the move was primarily political. Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini summed up his thoughts in a post on X, saying, “Those who fear the judgment of voters often seek reassurance from the courts. In Paris, they have condemned Marine Le Pen and would like to remove her from political life. A bad situation that is also being observed in other countries such as Romania. What is happening against @MLP_officiel is a declaration of war from Brussels, at a time when the belligerent impulses of Von der Leyen and Macron are terrifying. We are not intimidated, we are not stopped: full speed ahead, my friend!”

California’s employment landscape has shifted dramatically since 2023, according to a new report from the California Center for Jobs and the Economy (CCJE). Over two years, the state lost 173,000 private sector jobs, only offsetting the losses with 181,100 public sector government jobs and government-supported roles. Notably, a large proportion of the public sector employment is part-time, funded by the state to provide care services to the elderly and disabled. Police in New Delhi have finally been able to capture an elusive thief who would always poop his pants when in danger to keep people away as he made his escape.
Do you know how good actors can cry on command? Well, apparently some people have the same level of control of their bowels, allowing them to defecate at any moment. Deepak, a 27-year-old phone thief from Delhi, India, was one such person, and he used his unusual gift to avoid law enforcement whenever they got close to catching him. According to a Delhi police spokesperson, Deepak evaded arrest multiple time by pooping his pants to create a stench so foul that police were repulsed giving the thief enough time to make a run for it. The dirty trick was so effective that police even named it ‘poop and run’. Deepak’s poop-fueled reign of terror finally came to an end when policemen equipped with masks and gloves apprehended him.
“Teams gave him a chase and pinned him down,” a police officer proudly told News 18. “As expected, Deepak deployed his infamous ’filth plan’ but the officers, equipped with gloves and masks, thwarted his last-ditch effort and took him into custody.”
Deepak was spotted by a police patrol near Eidgah Park, and. knowing his ‘poop and run’ technique, they prepared accordingly to make sure they could endure the stench of his poop.
To paraphrase the great Carl Spackler - In order to conquer your foe, you have to learn to think like your foe.
A young Chinese woman went viral on social media after showing off her unusual home – a 6-square-foot toilet at her workplace for which she pays just 50 yuan ($7).
Everyone tries to save money on rent, but how many of us would be willing to sleep in an actual toilet to do it? One young woman from Hunan, China, recently shocked the world after posting photos of her unconventional living quarters – a small, unused toilet located inside the furniture factory where she works. The 19-year-old woman explained that she comes from a poor family and couldn’t afford to pay upwards of 800 yuan ($110) for a proper home, so she asked her boss if she could live there instead. Her post went viral, but most people commented that she was only sharing photos and videos to attract attention because no one could live in such conditions. However, the woman’s boss took to social media to confirm that she was indeed sleeping in a 6-square-foot toilet at his factory.
“She insisted on paying me an extra 50 yuan for water and electricity every month, but I didn’t want to take her money,” the woman’s boss said, adding that the wholesale furniture factory was located in a remote industrial park that didn’t leave her many options for affordable rent.
The woman said that her boss tried helping her find more normal accommodations close to the factory, but the rent was between 800 ($110) and 1,000 yuan ($140). She currently earns a monthly salary of under 3,000 yuan ($415), and she is trying to save as much money as possible for a down payment on a home, so she didn’t think it was worth it. He even offered to let her live in an office at the factory, but she decided that the unused toilet offered more privacy.
In the words of Ace Ventura - "Do NOT go in there!"

Alabama is the only state with all major natural resources needed to make iron and steel.
Connecticut is the only state in the United States where counties have no independent government and are merely geographical regions on a map. Legislation passed in 1959 and 1961 removed the duties and functions of the state’s eight counties.
Delaware is the only state without any National Park System units such as a national park, or national monument.
Iowa is the only state whose east and west borders are entirely formed by water (the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers).
Kansas is the only state to have researchers scientifically prove that it’s “flatter than a pancake”. In a 2003 study by geographers at Texas State University and Arizona State University, a topographical analysis found that the flatness of the state is indeed greater in some areas than that of a pancake.
Maine is the only U.S. state with a one-syllable name.
Tennessee is the only state that is bordered by eight other states, more than any other in the country.

Although it wasn't signed into law until 3 days later, on this day in 1948, the US Congress passed the Marshall Plan to rebuild war-torn Europe after World War II.
In a June 5, 1947, speech to the graduating class at Harvard University, Secretary of State George C. Marshall issued a call for a comprehensive program to rebuild Europe. Fanned by the fear of Communist expansion and the rapid deterioration of European economies in the winter of 1946–1947, Congress passed the Economic Cooperation Act in March 1948 and approved funding that would eventually rise to over $12 billion for the rebuilding of Western Europe.
What say you, history nerds? Pros and cons of the Marshall Plan now that we have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight?

Comments, questions, suggestions, or emotional outbursts? There's some sand that needs pounding somewhere - go find it.
Will Democrats continue their encouraging, inciting silence about the campaign of terror waged by their Street Paramilitaries?
Yes, yes they will. Their base voters (and I mean that in the negative sense) demand a "fight," and they do in fact mean physical violence against property and persons, and of course Democrats are craven weaklings who can never stand up to their lunatics.
It really IS the liberal establishment who are promoting and enabling this violence. For all the talk about "stochastic terrorism" when a conservative says "men are men, and women are women"--we are accused of GENOCIDE for repeating what every biology textbook in work history has said until 5 minutes ago--nobody says a peep when Democrats call for Elon Musk to be murdered, Tesla owners to be harassed, property to be destroyed, or Tesla owners beaten up.
That was idealism. Just as the murderous and destructive riots of 2020 were "social justice."
The Brownshirts thought they were making Germany safe for Germans. They didn't pat themselves on the back for being evil--they were idealists. So was Stalin, and Mao's cultural revolution brigades. And the Baader-Meinhof gang. And so on. If idealism can justify this sort of political violence, then every totalitarian government is justified.
The Weather Underground terror group has been reborn. We must not make the mistakes we made last time by giving light sentences or no sentences at all. Those terrorists became thought leaders on the left because of it. We must be relentlessly punishing. No mercy can be shown. https://t.co/quwgdwHA2n

It fell so far, in fact, that the unthinkable happened. They had consoled themselves with the idea that because this past weekend featured no major releases, they would at least keep the #1 spot.
In fact, the non-woke Jason Statham took the #1 spot.
"Snow White" is no longer the fairest of them all at the box office.
The Disney live-action remake starring Rachel Zegler was unexpectedly unseated from its spot at No. 1 during its second weekend in theaters. In an upset, the new Jason Statham action movie "A Working Man" topped the domestic box office charts with $15.2 million in its first weekend, while "Snow White" grossed another $14.2 million during its sophomore frame, according to estimates from Comscore.
For "Snow White," this was a sharp decline from the film's initial $42 million debut last weekend. How steeply a movie declines in its second weekend can be indicative of whether it will continue to perform well in the weeks to come, making this a worrying sign for Disney.
The box office debut of "Snow White" last week was already considered a disappointment compared to how other Disney live-action remakes have performed. The live-action "The Little Mermaid" opened to $95.5 million over three days, while "Beauty and the Beast" opened to $174.7 million, "Aladdin" started with $91.5 million and "Cinderella" opened to $67.8 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
For years and years, we've wondered, When will the left get the message? When will the media finally get the message?
The disaster of Snow Woke may have been the message that finally got through to them.
Rachel Zegler's Snow White flop sparks anti-woke U-turn: Hollywood whistleblowers reveal how trans actors and liberal films are being dumped in 'crisis mode' panic
By CAROLINE GRAHAM FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
...
More than a dozen Hollywood insiders ranging from an Oscar-nominated producer to the writer of one of the most successful TV shows ever have spoken exclusively to the Daily Mail about an industry in 'crisis mode.'
'When the #MeToo [in late 2017] and George Floyd protests [May 2020] happened, every studio in town jumped on the woke bandwagon,' a Disney insider says.
'Five years on,' he adds, 'everyone is desperately trying to save themselves and Hollywood. You can't underestimate the fear behind closed doors. This feels like a battle for survival.'
I'm rooting for mass casualties.
At the House of Mouse, the disastrous box office failure of the $270 million Snow White reboot, which earned a lackluster $43 million on opening weekend, was the 'final nail in the coffin' of 'wokeism.'
...
.
Recounting meetings with snobbish Hollywood executives over the past several years, an Oscar-nominated producer tells the Daily Mail how he'd, 'hear people dismissing the "flyover states" [those in the middle of America],' adding, 'duh, those people are the ones who watch our shows and go to the movies.'
He cited this year's Oscars, which had the lowest ratings ever, for showcasing 'movies no-one cares about.'
...
'[Y]ou have films like Emilia Perez [about a cartel boss who transitions from male to female] which appeal to no one except a handful of ultra-left liberals.'
Has Hollywood finally realized the search for "The Modern Audience" is an expensive and futile snipe hunt?
'When woke first came in it was about the bottom line,' the producer explains. 'Studios thought going woke would attract a new, younger audience and make them money - but all it did was piss everyone off.'
An insider at Amazon's Prime Video streaming division told the Daily Mail that 'this was never about genuinely helping minorities... for most studio executives DEI was another way to make money. Now it's backfired and everyone is scrambling to change direction.'
The article quotes several older white writers and producers stating that they were brought in as secret employees on troubled minority-heavy productions.
But then they made those writers and producers keep secret about the White Taint they brought to these projects.
'Their DEI hires couldn't actually do the job. So, they had old white men like me re-writing things. The money was good, but I couldn't get any credit. That's the hypocrisy of Hollywood.'
Now, the anti-woke backlash is in full swing.
This week Mel Gibson, a director who was famously cancelled for drunkenly spewing anti-Semitic slurs during a 2006 drunk-driving arrest in Malibu, California, announced he will start filming his long-awaited follow-up to 2004's The Passion of the Christ in Italy this summer.
...
'The mood in Hollywood under President Biden wasn't conducive to someone making a movie about faith and God and certainly not someone like Mel who'd been cancelled. Now Hollywood's woken up to the fact that the mood has changed.'
The Disney animated show Win or Lose, which revolves around a middle-school softball team gearing up for a championship game, recently removed a transgender character.
The Disney executive who spoke to the Daily Mail privately admitted that this was a direct result of the anti-DEI backlash, the studio put out a statement in December saying: Mb<'We recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.'
Amazon, which owns The Apprentice - the show which made Donald Trump a TV star - has added every episode to its Prime Video streaming service after mothballing it for years.
'The numbers have been incredible,' one Amazon insider told me. 'Now anti-woke programming is making money. But it could be too little too late. So many jobs have been lost because of [DEI].'
A&E is bringing back Duck Dynasty, which the liberal executives hated, and Cops-like show called Live PD is coming back, too -- after it had been cancelled in the post-George-Floyd anti-cop panic.
...
'There is a course correction when it comes to entertainment,' Abrams said. 'When Live PD was cancelled the vast majority of people criticizing it had never watched an episode.'
Trump's The Apprentice is on the charts for the most-streamed series.
Louisiana voters overwhelmingly rejected four proposed constitutional amendments which aimed to reshape the state's approach to justice, juvenile crime, taxation, and judicial elections. Each amendment was rejected by more than 60% of voters.
"This was a 'primal scream' kind of vote, driven by robust Democratic EV turnout that I'm not seeing being offset by a strong GOP Election Day vote," John Couvillon, an award-winning pollster, said in a post on X.
"Although we are disappointed in tonight's results, we do not see this as a failure. We realize how hard positive change can be to implement in a state that is conditioned for failure," Gov. Jeff Landry said in a statement. "We will continue working to give our citizens more opportunities to keep more of their hard-earned money and provide a better future for Louisianians. This is not the end for us, and we will continue to fight to make the generational changes for Louisiana to succeed."
Tomorrow Wisconsin will vote for a Supreme Court justice --and this may tilt the court from a 4-3 Republican split to a 4-3 Democrat advantage.
And if the Democrat wins, they will gerrymander the state to conjure two extra Democrat congressional districts.
Musk offered a $1 million prize to two voters picked at random in an effort to get out the Trump vote.
The entire left-wing influence operation has been put in motion to discredit and ruin Elon Musk. They've sicced their astroturf mobs on his car dealerships. They've attacked him relentlessly for every cut, every firing he's recommended.
But Musk keeps coming. Indeed, his investment of millions of dollars in the pivotal Wisconsin Supreme Court race will prove whether the left is making any headway in its smear campaign against him or whether Musk will have the last laugh.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court race set for April 1 will demonstrate the breadth of Musk's influence. He and his affiliated groups have spent upward of $20 million, with another $2 million for a controversial program to offer $100 to those who sign a petition in opposition to "activist judges" and give their contact information on the petition. His plan to give $1 million each to two Wisconsin voters at a rally on Sunday was challenged in court by the state Attorney General Josh Kaul. The appeals court refused to hear the case.
"This is kind of a test case for Elon Musk," said Dane County Judge Susan Crawford, a former prosecutor and the Democrat running against Waukesha County Judge Republican Brad Schimel. "He wants to make sure that nothing stands in the way of what he's doing to try to dismantle the federal government."
That hysterically exaggerated rhetoric is why Musk has a good shot of prevailing.
Florida is holding two special elections to elect replacements for Matt Gaetz and NSA head Mike Waltz.
The special congressional elections Tuesday to replace former GOP Reps. Mike Waltz and Matt Gaetz were supposed to be nearly-sure wins for Republicans trying to add to their narrow House majority, considering both districts lean heavily Republican -- yet each appears tighter than expected going into Election Day.
In Florida's 6th congressional district race, state Sen. Randy Fine is competing against teacher and Democrat Josh Weil, in a district that stretches from the north-central coast to the middle of the state. Trump won the district by 30 points in 2024.
But a survey conducted last week in the race to replace former Waltz, who resigned his seat to become Trump's national security adviser, shows Fine winning just over 48% of the vote, while Weil received just over 44%. However, the pollsters reported a 4.9% margin of error, greater than Fine's lead.
...
Other concerns are Weil having a nearly 10-to-1 fundraising advantage over Fine and less than 51% of voters in the district approving of the job Trump is doing as president.
Fine on former Trump adviser Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast last week acknowledged the early vote gap.
"The Democrats are mad and the Republicans aren't. And we have to make them mad. We have to make them understand just what's at stake," he said, later adding, "I know we have good election days, but we need to run up that score right now."
The elections come as Republicans hold a narrow 218-213 House majority.
Patronis is being outspent 7 to 1 by the Democrat:
"I've never been outspent in a race before. They're out spending me seven-to-one. Dollars are coming in from all over the country and it's crazy. My opponent has so much money," he also said on Saturday's "Fox and Friends Weekend."
Valimont, whom Gaetz defeated handily in November has brought in more than $6 million, compared to Patronis' $1.2 million.
Trump in 2024 won the Panhandle district with 66% of the vote.
There are a lot of Trump-Only Voters that the GOP desperately needs to convert to Republican voters. But they're basically Democrats or cynical independents who hate Republicans or hate all politicians generally -- they just make one single exception for Trump.
I don't know how we convert these Trump Only voters to more regular and reliable voters.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced this week that he had handed over to Congress long-sought bureau records related to the 2017 congressional baseball game shooting following years of House Republicans arguing the bureau was stonewalling on why it had labeled the attack "suicide by cop" instead of domestic terrorism.
James Hodgkinson, an extreme left-wing activist living out of a van in northern Virginia opened fire on Republicans at an Alexandria baseball field on June 14, 2017 after asking GOP congressmen who had left the practice early if the players were Republicans or Democrats. GOP Congressman Steve Scalise nearly died as a result of the attack. Before opening fire, Hodgkinson reportedly asked if the players on the field were Republicans, and then proceeded with his armed assault.
Republican congressmen have for years harshly criticized the 2017 decision by the FBI, led in an acting capacity at the time by Andrew McCabe, not to label the shooting by Hodgkinson as domestic terrorism despite his targeting of elected Republican leaders as they practiced for the annual Congressional Baseball Game. The FBI had instead dubbed the attack "suicide by cop" -- a position the bureau refused to reverse until 2021, and a position the FBI has never fully explained.
...
As he sprayed bullets at the GOP members practicing for a baseball game, Hodgkinson's gunfire struck Scalise in the hip, hit lobbyist Matt Mika in the chest, and injured two Capitol Police officers, Crystal Griner and David Bailey. Scalise nearly bled to death and required multiple surgeries before returning to Congress. The shooter, who was killed by police, had written down the names of GOP congressmen.
McCabe, who was deeply involved in the FBI's roundly criticized Crossfire Hurricane investigation, took over the FBI after the May 2017 firing of former FBI Director James Comey, who himself had played a key role in the false Trump-Russia collusion saga. It was during McCabe's tenure that the bureau rejected calling the shooting "domestic terrorism." McCabe did not respond to a request for comment from Just the News through his LinkedIn page.
...
Hodgkinson supporter of Democratic presidential primary candidate and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, was killed by law enforcement after the attack. Infuriated by Trump winning the 2016 election, he had posted on Facebook that "Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It's Time to Destroy Trump & Co." and had joined other groups such as "Terminate The Republican Party" and "Join The Resistance Worldwide!!"
The FBI declared just a week after the shooting in June 2017 that it did not consider the baseball shooting a terrorist attack, saying, "The FBI is investigating this shooting as an assault on a member of Congress and an assault on a federal officer. At this point in the investigation, the FBI does not believe there is a nexus to terrorism." The FBI held onto this position for years.
...
"Much to our shock that day, the FBI concluded that this was a case of the attacker seeking suicide by cop," Wenstrup said. "Director, you want suicide by cop, you just pull a gun on a cop. It doesn't take 136 rounds. It takes one bullet. Both [Department of Homeland Security] and the [Office of the Director of National Intelligence] published products labeling this attack as a domestic violent extremism event, specifically targeting Republican members of Congress. The FBI did not. The FBI still has not."
This is chilling. Particularly when you consider that the Democrat Party and permanent Deep State are currently agitating for more political violence against Trump, Musk, and anyone associated with the right.
Far-right leader Marine Le Pen banned from 2027 presidential race, throwing French politics into disarray
French far-right figurehead Marine Le Pen has been banned from running for political office for five years after being found guilty of embezzling European Union funds, in a politically explosive ruling that has shattered her hopes of winning the presidency in 2027.
A Paris court also handed Le Pen, who was the frontrunner for the next election, a four-year prison sentence with two years suspended, to be served under house arrest, and a 100,000 Euro ($108,000) fine. Le Pen will file an appeal, her lawyer said.
The imprisonment is on hold. The thing they really wanted- - banning her from running -- is imposed immediately, even during her appeal.
Europe is a totalitarian hellhole and we should no longer spend a dime defending it.
Her party, National Rally (RN), was ordered to pay 2 million Euros in fines for the 4.1 million Euros that it was accused of embezzling.
The court's presiding judge, Bénédicte de Perthuis, said Le Pen's actions amounted to a "serious and lasting attack on the rules of democratic life in Europe, but especially in France." She said Le Pen's immediate ban on standing for office was tied to "democratic public unrest" that would result from the election of a person convicted of embezzlement.
But the decision itself looks set to spark significant unrest. Jordan Bardella, Le Pen's protégé who succeeded her as RN's president, said it was not only Le Pen "who is being unjustly condemned: it is French democracy that is being executed."
Marion Maréchal, Le Pen's niece and a Member of the European Parliament for a rival far-right party, said her aunt had "led our side on the path to victory. This is her only guilt, and that is why she is condemned."
Calm and composed as she entered the court on Monday, greeting supporters, Le Pen grew increasingly agitated, shaking her head as the court president spent more than an hour detailing the embezzlement scheme.
"The question therefore arises in a singular way in this criminal case which makes its decision 'in the name of the French people.' The court must not ignore the requirement to seek a social consensus," the presiding judge said.
De Perthuis said her fellow judges had weighed the "two risks" in their sentencing: the risk of a person convicted for embezzlement being elected for political office and the "major risk to public order" if a likely presidential candidate was banned from running.
...
Le Pen had branded the case against her a "witchhunt," mirroring language that US President Donald Trump used against legal proceedings that targeted him.
Her right-wing European allies also quickly rallied to her defense after the decision.
"Je suis Marine," Viktor Orban, Hungary's prime minister and a champion of socially conservative politics in Europe, posted on X following the conviction, with Italian far-right leader and Matteo Salvini slamming the decision.
Marie Le Pen, front runner in the next French election, has been barred from running. The Romanian courts throw out the primary and order new elections because their chosen candidate lost.

THE MORNING RANT: Another Climate Apocalypse Deadline Just Passed
—Buck Throckmorton
On June 3, 2022, a protestor tied her neck to the net during a tennis match at the French Open. Her shirt read “We Have 1028 Days Left.” She was referring to the scientifically indisputable analysis from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that if radical de-carbonization was not implemented within that time frame, it would be too late to save the planet from the angry climate God.
The 1,028th day was last week, Thursday March 27, 2025. We’re all still here, sea levels haven’t risen, global temperatures haven’t changed, and the climate is not in peril.
I’ve spent a lot of time mocking people like this young lady, but it is absolutely tragic and heartbreaking how we have immersed our children in the false-science of the climate doomsday cult. She deserved better than to be told by “respectable” authorities that life on Earth will end if she does not take radical action, possibly sacrificing her freedom, to save the planet.
We’re also at the 5-year anniversary of the Covid hysteria, and it too was pure evil how authorities put the fear of death into our children. My city’s local newspaper has an annual competition for children to design wrapping paper, with the winning design distributed within the paper on the Sunday before Christmas. In December 2020, this was the winner – two cartoon gingerbread children with a yard stick between them, and the words “6 feet apart but still in my heart” across the wrapping paper.
I’m still seething with anger about the Covid sharia and emotional abuse inflicted on children during the that social panic.
Ace wrote a few days ago about how Gen-Z is turning out remarkably conservative, as well they should, considering all the abuse that was heaped on them at the confluence of climate catastrophism, Covid, and woke vilification. For all the times and all the ways today’s young adults were told by adults in their lives that they were going to die young, we are lucky the younger generation didn’t turn out to be burn-it-all down nihilists.
In it I discuss how the Great Barrier Reef’s coral cover has more than doubled in a decade and its extent is the highest ever recorded, yet the propaganda media is unrelenting in promoting the imminent demise of the reef due to global warming.
It’s behind a paywall, but if you have a Blaze subscription, I’d be honored if you’d give it a read.
The headquarters for the Republican Party in New Mexico was targeted Sunday in what is being called “a deliberate act of arson,” leaving the entryway to the building destroyed.
In a post on X, the Republican Party of New Mexico revealed the damage to the state’s GOP headquarters in Albuquerque also included the words “ICE=KKK” spray painted on a wall of the building. The attack was described as being “fueled by hatred and intolerance.”
. . . “We are deeply relieved that no one was harmed in what could have been a tragic and deadly attack,” Barela said. “Those who resort to violence to undermine our state and nation must be held accountable, and our state leaders must reinforce through decisive action that these cowardly attacks will not be tolerated.”
The elections director of Milwaukee, Wisconsin is apparently playing sheriff. Meanwhile, workers allegedly have been handling ballots in secret rooms inadmissible to observers for weeks.
City workers are allegedly using secret offices, off limits for observers, to handle ballots for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, multiple sources told The Federalist. Milwaukee Elections Director Paulina Gutierrez also allegedly claimed “police powers” to remove observers in a March 19 meeting at Milwaukee Central Count. Early voting began in the race March 18, and election day is April 1. Former Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel, backed by Republicans, is running against Democrat-backed Judge Susan Crawford for a 10-year term on the state Supreme Court. Leftists took control of the court in 2023, but with the retirement of Justice Ann Walsh Bradley, this race could decide the ideological tilt of the state’s highest court for years. . .
. . . The rooms are purportedly used to scan ballots as received then divide them by “ward” — the equivalent of an election precinct. “They’re scanning them in, and then they’re sorting them by ward,” the observer said. “Why would it happen in secret?”
The observer claimed to have personally seen the back rooms in Milwaukee Central Count — described as offices with windows “papered over so you can’t actually see what they’re doing.” Gutierrez and the city attorney allegedly confirmed to the observer “they were using those rooms again” and that “they had every right to do that.”
. . . The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel claimed on election day that “Wisconsin has secure elections.” But in 2020, Milwaukee was home to “Zuckbucks” meddling and late-night ballot dumps. In 2024, it was the site of alleged ballot harvesting, broken tabulator seals, and a mysterious “black curtain.” As one unnamed source said, “this is a major perception issue.”
I guess Democrat terror goons firebombing Wisconsin's GOP headquarters might be misinterpreted by the unwashed masses and so that option was nixed. Meh, with Election officials and administratators like they have in Milwaukee, the election has been in the bag for weeks already and tomorrow's magic show is just pro forma.
I would have hoped that both the state and national GOP would have been preparing for this election for months now. Or is that hoping for too much. But considering what's at stake . . .
All eyes are on the Wisconsin Supreme Court election, where liberals currently hold a 4-3 majority. On Tuesday, voters will choose between a conservative judge, Brad Schimel, and a liberal judge, Susan Crawford, to fill a vacancy and possibly flip the court to conservative control.
What difference does it make? A lot — and not just in Wisconsin.
If liberals retain control, it is likely that the court will unwind the public sector union reforms enacted when Scott Walker was governor, something high on labor unions’ wish list for the past decade. Issues such as abortion are also on the agenda. Voters gave Republicans an 18-15 majority in the Wisconsin State Senate and a 54-45 majority in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Yet a liberal Supreme Court bench would spell disaster for any Republican initiatives. . .
. . . Redistricting could net Democrats two extra seats, and control of Congress. Crawford supporters even put out a campaign email touting the election as a “chance to put two more House seats in play for 2026” Democrats know what is at stake.
So this state court election is about control of the nation, not just Wisconsin.
Soros saw an early opportunity, and donated $1 million directly to Crawford’s campaign before the race received its current publicity, plus his network has raised far more.
Have a great day — And. . . A gentle reminder to my fellow Wisconsinites Tomorrow is Election Day so get out and vote early absentee today if you can and for sure tomorrow for BRAD SCHIMEL
Well, I voted early as it supposedly makes shenanigans and thievery on the part of Democrats harder to pull off on and immediately after election day itself. If any of my fellow Wisconsinites can go vote today, wherever you may be, do so. I did not flee NYC just to live in its arctic equivalent.
Constitutional scholars believe they have identified a loophole in the Constitution that would allow President Trump (or any President) to serve more than two terms. The revelation stems from a 1999 Minnesota Law Review paper by Professor Bruce Peabody. The move, which some dismiss as improbable, could be facilitated by a new interpretation of the 22nd Amendment. Academic circles, Congress, and staunch Trump supporters have discussed exploiting a potential loophole in the language of the amendment. The 22nd Amendment, ratified to prevent any individual from being elected as President more than twice, holds a phrase that experts argue does not restrict someone from returning to office if they were not re-elected President.
Eh, something else for Lefties to go apeshit about.
Vote Early & Often! Go BRAD SCHIMEL!
And lastly, a quick shout-out and thank you for your continued support in hitting our tip jar. It truly is appreciated more than you can know.

A 56-year-old Polish woman was arrested and charged with systematically adding toxic substances to a coworker’s drinks simply because she disliked them.
It’s unclear when the unnamed cleaning woman started poisoning her colleague, but the 51-year-old victim started feeling seriously under the weather a few months ago. At first, she thought her stomach pain was caused by stress and working too much, but as her symptoms worsened, the woman, whose name has not been revealed for privacy reasons, went to the hospital for a checkup. Doctors there told her that she showed signs of internal injuries similar to those caused by toxic substances and asked if she had been ingesting something that she wasn’t supposed to. She hadn’t, but the question reminded her of the weird taste she had felt when drinking her morning cup of tea at work.
The 51-year-old victim worked at an office building in Warsaw with a number of other women employed by the same cleaning company. She had had some arguments with them over the years, but never imagined some of them would go as far as to try to poison her. Nevertheless, she went to a local police station to report her suspicions, but she was told that nothing could be done based solely on her hunches and that she needed to provide some solid evidence.
***
Warsaw police have yet to reveal the reason behind the systematic poisoning, but according to sources quoted by Polish media, the two older women simply did not like the victim, who apparently had a slightly higher position at the company they worked for, and wanted to get rid of her somehow. “The women simply did not like each other,” the anonymous informant told Onet Warsaw.
The woman caught on camera poisoning her coworker’s drinks risks spending up to 20 years behind bars, while her older colleague faces 3 years in prison for failing to alert the authorities about the crime.

The vest is Polo Ralph Lauren Jaiden stretch Camel Hair, from 2021. The pants are Polo Ralph Lauren Seth stretch Camel Hair, from 2021.
Can pantsuits be bad? They can be horrid. This is not good from the Queen of the pantsuit herself– and I don’t mean because of differences in body styles, either. You don’t need to be a model to have a pantsuit fit well. I am not sure who this suit is by, but the shoulder pads are not tailored, hence the weird bunching. The jacket is too wide at the waist, doing the opposite of camouflaging a problem area. The pants are too long for the cut, which I believe is supposed to be a skinny leg, or maybe a straight leg that doesn’t fit well. While you can wear a black shoe with anything, sometimes you should ask if there couldn’t be a better option. This was a missed opportunity for a pop of color.
Before I am accused of transferring my dislike of Hillary herself onto her clothes, here is an example of where Kamala got the pantsuit right -almost. This is a bright pink suit by Sergio Hudson with a dramatic flared leg that is exactly the right length for this cut. The jacket, while not fitted as you might expect against such a wide leg, is pulled in at the waist so it doesn’t come across as boxy. The look could have benefited from a blouse that wasn’t fighting for boldness against the pink of the suit. Since that was the choice, adding a metallic shoe really was a lot.
Does the pantsuit have a history? Of course it does even back to the 40’s. This isn’t a designer piece, but it is cute!
Yves Saint Laurent had iconic pantsuits in the 70’s. This is how pleated pants are done!
When done correctly, pantsuits are feminine and powerful all at the same time. If doubt remains, just look at Melania’s official portrait to dispose of it once and for all.

Thanks, Piper!

Howdy, Y'all! Welcome to the wondrously fabulous Gun Thread! As always, I want to thank all of our regulars for being here week in and week out, and also offer a bigly Gun Thread welcome to any newcomers who may be joining us tonight. Howdy and thank you for stopping by! I hope you find our wacky conversation on the subject of guns 'n shooting both enjoyable and informative. You are always welcome to lurk in the shadows of shame, but I'd like to invite you to jump into the conversation, say howdy, and tell us what kind of shooting you like to do!
Holy Shitballs! How in the ever-loving Hell did it get to be the end of March Edition? Not the first, not the second, not the third, not the fourth, but rather the fifth edition of the Ol' Gun Thread this month! Next week, by the way, we will have the first edition of April. Don't worry. I'll remind you.
I did not make it to the farm-o as planned this weekend, dangit! Trying again this week!
With that, step into the dojo and let's get to the gun stuff below, shall we?
If you have been here for any length of time, you know I have a thing for logical and methodical use of time spent at the range focusing on fundamentals. So what's the first thing you do at the range once you are all set up and the range is hot? What is your routine? Do you just start trying to make small groups of holes and hope things work out or do you have a specific plan? If so, what is it? Is there a drill you find particularly useful? Please let us know how you organize and spend your range time in the comments below.

Guns of the Horde
You people turned Sharon (willow's apprentice) into a gun nut!
Skerry!
Last Sunday as a belated birthday present, Ed L brought his MP5 to the range. Four of us had a chance to shoot, Blaster, Hrothgar, Ed L and I was last in line. You can see by the target that a whole lot of rounds were fired (they are marked off with an orange pen)but after I shot, Ed L pulled the target in and made me take a picture. The target was covered with bullet holes but if you look at the bottom of the grip, there is a round hole through the target where most of my shots went. That gun is so easy to shoot, hardly any recoil and the adjustable stock made it fit perfectly to my shoulder so way easier than a handgun to hold steady.

Here are some different online cigar vendors. You will find they not only carry different brands and different lines from those brands, but also varying selections of vitolas (sizes/shapes) of given lines. It's good to have options, especially if you're looking for a specific cigar.
A note about sources. The brick & mortar/online divide exists with cigars, as with guns, and most consumer products, with respect to price. As with guns - since both are "persecuted industries", basically - I make a conscious effort to source at least some of my cigars from my local store(s). It's a small thing, but the brick & mortar segment for both guns and tobacco are precious, and worth supporting where you can. And if you're lucky enough to have a good cigar store/lounge available, they're often a good social event with many dangerous people of the sort who own scary gunz, or read smart military blogs like this one. -rhomboid
Anyone have others to include? Perhaps a small local roller who makes a cigar you like? Send me your recommendation and a link to the site!
Please note the new and improved protonmail account gunthread at protonmail dot com. An informal Gun Thread archive can be found HERE. Future expansion plans are in the works for the site Weasel Gun Thread. If you have a question you would like to ask Gun Thread Staff offline, just send us a note and we'll do our best to answer. That's it for this week - have you been to the range?
Tasty! And easy to open. And for me, that is an important point, because while I understand how to do it, and I am fairly good at it, there is always the risk of plunging the oyster knife into one's palm while opening a particularly recalcitrant oyster. Some varieties have nicely exposed hinges which makes opening them a breeze. These were great! But some varieties hide the hinge behind a curve in the shell or some other subterfuge, and they can be a dangerous thing indeed. As the apex predator of the edible mollusk world, oysters can be tough to handle.
And notice there are only 11 oysters on that plate? Yup, the twelfth was a bit too easy to open, no doubt planning a sneak attack of some nasty virus or bacteria. But I was too quick for him!
The French grade their oysters by size, from 5 to 0 (by weight, beginning at 30g and ending above 150g!). I have never seen a 0, and the 2s and 3s are just perfect, so I won't look hard for some monstrous oyster the size of a dinner plate. They may be a bit tough to swallow.
France consumes most of its oyster production, which tells me...something. I have no idea what. Prices are lower in the stores compared to the United States, but just as painful in Parisian restaurants. Along the coast in the oyster-growing regions is a different and happy paradigm; great oysters for not much at all!
Mashed potatoes. How special can they be? Pretty damned special! These came as an accompaniment to my main course of "Ris de Veau aux Morilles," which is sweetbreads in a cream sauce with morels. That was...fine. The sweetbreads were a bit overdone, which changes their wonderful texture to something more like overcooked liver. But the cream sauce and morels were good, and went wonderfully with those magnificent potatoes! Buttery and creamy and very potato-tasting, so pretty much perfect.
******
And right across the street is "Vibrio Shellfish!"
******
I have absolutely no clue what the hell that is! And not just the "flavour of undergrowth." What exactly is a "snaky" scallop?
******
Oh... I was excited! I have had scallops with roe before, and I have always enjoyed them. It's not as tasty as sea urchin roe, but then that may be the platonic ideal of roe. The scallop roe adds mouthfeel and richness to the scallops, and it is a delicious combination. It also looks pretty good on the plate.
And the roe came through with flying colors. But (of course there is a but) the scallops just weren't as sweet and delicious as my local ones. Yes, I am spoiled, because shockingly, New Jersey has a small and incredible scallop industry. They are superb, maybe the best I have ever eaten except for those Bay Scallops from Massachusetts a few years ago that were ethereal, even if they were wearing little Red Sox caps.
******
They are everywhere! We can safely ignore the French conceit that every little bakery (boulangerie) makes fantastic baguettes, because even in my neighborhood there are thoroughly pedestrian examples. But there are excellent places, and at least one that makes a spectacular version.
Perhaps I am an outlier, and making baguettes is really pretty easy once one gets the hang of it, but my experience has been one of mostly failure. Edible, but boring. And what is most frustrating is my experience with sourdough boules, which has been a wonderful learning curve culminating in some damned good bread! It's just not that hard, no matter what the lunatics on the internet say.
So why are baguettes different? It's not the dough. That's the easy part. Recipes are recipes are recipes. It's the manipulation of the dough, which with practice is easy for a boule, but is more difficult for a baguette. Just think of a blob of dough that needs to be stretched and folded and rolled into just the right length and thickness, allowed to rise (twice!), then transferred to a hot oven (with steam) without it flopping around like a flaccid...um...never mind.
Anyway, if anyone in the vast readership of this Food Thread has been successful, I don't want to hear about it. Because I hate you.

Who are those poor deluded souls We know who shake their Manhattans! These are the same people who drink fine bourbon with coke, and probably shake red wine with ice too.
$1,200 for a bottle of bourbon is just stupid, insulting, and a ghastly affront to most people's palates and wallets. I think the sweet spot is $40-$60 for excellent and interesting bottles, and bumping that to $100 gets you an incremental improvement in quality, but nothing mind-blowing. More than that and I think you are paying for hype and rarity, which may look good in your liquor cabinet, but doesn't translate to more quality in the bottle.
The problem...or the solution...is to buy lots of bourbon, take tasting notes, and eventually arrive at your favorites! It should take forty of fifty years, but it is worth it!
It's difficult to see in the photo, but that door is guaranteed to smash one's fingers or knuckles if opened the normal way, by grasping the handle and pushing.
Why? Because the handle is mounted so close to the edge of the door that it is impossible to open without pain unless one is delicate and careful and holds the handle by the edge while simultaneously curling one's hand away from the other door.
Which nobody does. So they smash their thumbs or knuckles or fingers, depending on their preferred door-opening technique, against the other door, and then curse.
RFK Jr. May Be Crazy, But Getting Rid Of A Mandate-Loving, Science-Torturing Bureaucrat Is A Very Good Thing!
—CBD
RFK Jr. Is a loon when it comes to vaccines, and the catastrophe that is the Covid19 vaccine effort has just solidified his opinions. The reality is that there many, safe, effective, lifesaving vaccines available, and the experience with these in the 20th century is a wonderful example of the power of science. Polio, Small Pox, Measles, Tetanus, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and several others are a successful testament to the West's public health and scientific efforts.
But as usual, hubris, graft, self-aggrandizement and government overreach took that wonderful success and made it a problem. The attitude seemed to be, if several vaccines are good, then a dozen are even better!
HPV? Why? Protecting children from a sexually transmitted disease? Chicken Pox? Why? Natural immunity is better, and the disease itself is mild. And let's accelerate the time frame for these vaccines, so babies are bombarded with vaccine after vaccine, without a solid understanding of how their immune systems will respond.
And if traditional vaccine development takes years, but we have a new and mostly untested way to create vaccines quickly, then why the hell not!
Covid19 was the perfect opportunity for the ultimate in medical and government hubris. Big Pharma had the technology to create a vaccine very quickly, and government had the jackbooted thugs of its enforcement arms to mandate its use. Never mind that it was a crappy vaccine, didn't really protect people from contracting the disease, didn't limit its spread very much, and had poorly understood side effects.
But none of that mattered, and the evil cabal of Pharma and government ran roughshod over our rights, and absolutely destroyed the science of vaccines in the process. In doing so they took a society that was mostly comfortable with vaccinations, and convinced them that government and Pharma were lying through their teeth, and absolutely could not be trusted with anything... including the vaccines that have been demonstrated to work.
But back to RFK Jr.'s lunacy. It now makes more sense to America, because even if he is mostly wrong about traditional vaccines (they don't cause autism), there is a monstrous example of exactly what he has been saying for years: the Covid19 catastrophe.
Sadly, our compliant media will not tell the truth about Peter Marks, who is one of the prime players in the ridiculously fast rollout of the Covid19 vaccine and the subsequent mandates for its use. He is a fascist: comfortable with government forcing any manner of medical treatment on pain of loss of employment and, in a few cases, death.
Good on Ya RFK Jr. for dumping this arrogant, superior, freedom-crushing fascist!
The Food and Drug Administration’s top vaccine regulator Peter Marks has resigned, citing Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “misinformation and lies” around immunization, according to a resignation letter obtained by CNBC.
For nearly 10 years, Marks led the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, a post that included evaluating Covid-19 vaccines and establishing guidelines for emerging treatments like cell and gene therapies. A key figure at the FDA, biopharma industry insiders were closely watching Marks amid the transition.
The Wall Street Journal first reported Marks’s resignation, saying an official of the Department of Health and Human Services gave Marks the chance to resign or be fired. Marks, the FDA, and the Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Oh... the poor dear! Just a dedicated and selfless career scientist whose only goal is to improve the health and well-being of Americans! He's like Santa Claus and Albert Schweitzer wrapped in one!
FDA Director Dr. Peter Marks testified that the FDA’s approval of the COVID-19 vaccine may have been rushed in order to meet arbitrary mandate policies set forth by the Biden Administration. Previous documents uncovered by the Select Subcommittee revealed that scientists warned Dr. Marks and other FDA officials on numerous occasions about the dangers of rushing the COVID-19 vaccine approval process. The FDA seemingly disregarded the warnings, dismissed the scientists who brought forward the concerns, and went forward with the accelerated approval process. The day after approval, the Biden Administration announced its first COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
Well look at that! A mandate! Otherwise known as totalitarianism. Marks is an evil man, and his departure from the FDA is a wonderful thing. Too bad it wasn't on a rail.

Here is where we can discuss, argue, bicker, quibble, consider, debate, confabulate, converse, and jaw about our latest fancy in reading material. As always, pants are required, unless you are wearing these pants...(includes 3 replacement anvil zippers)
So relax, find yourself a warm kitty (or warm puppy--I won't judge) to curl up in your lap, and dive into a new book. What are YOU reading this fine morning?
Congratulations to Wolfus Aurelius on his impending official retirement from the drudgery of WORK. More time for reading!
Congratulations to Madame Mayhem (uppity wench) for Leveling Up and becoming an official grandmother! Now with 25% more uppitiness!
Working at a university means I get to encounter a lot of weird artifacts while wandering around the hallways. From time to time, professors will put out tables or shelves of stuff labeled "FREE!" Most of the time, it's just junk, but sometimes you find an interesting item or two. The pic above is from a rather large volume of monographs from the United States Geological Survey, printed in 1904. Just imagine the amount of effort that was put into creating such a massive tome at that time. It did not weather the decades very well, though, as the spine is held together with packing tape and most of the contents have separated from the binding. You do have to have a delicate touch to turn the pages in this book, or many of them are likely to fall out.
MILESTONE - 1,500+ MORON RECOMMENDATIONS!
I have not been keeping track of the Moron recommendations for the past several months, but I had some time at work and I was bored, so I decided to catch up and add Moron Recommendations to the Libib catalog. It gives all Morons--lurkers and commenters alike--a way to find new books to read that might suit their tastes. It's also a demonstration of the sheer breadth and depth of our reading habits, as virtually every genre imaginable is represented in some fashion. Here are the top contributors:

COMFORT READING
I would like to offer a suggestion for an upcoming book thread, Perfesser Squirrel/
Books that we have read before and return to again because they're like the book version of a comfort food and we enjoyed them so much, but maybe men don't return to books over again?
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at March 28, 2025 06:44 AM (Edj++)
We've discussed "comfort reading" before but it's a topic worth revisiting from time to time. When times are tough, it can be helpful to turn to books that scratch a particular itch, where we feel most comforted. I have quite a few books and series that I will read again and again and again. Not necessarily because they are great literature--some of them can be quite trashy--but because I just like them. Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is one I can reread endlessly. It's a very long series and it has sufficient complexity and depth to keep me entertained for many, many hours. P.C. Hodgell's Chronicles of the Kencyrath is another such series, as is Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. I also enjoy rereading Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Since there is only a loose chronology connecting them, I can dive in at any point and enjoy those books without feeling I need to read them in any particular order.
MORON RECOMMENDATIONS
I took The Inimitable Jeeves (original title: Jeeves) with me on vacation but didn't open it until after we got home, and even then didn't get into it until yesterday.
It's the usual early 1920s mixture of Bertie Wooster struggling to deal with foolish friends, flighty females, and domineering dames, led by irascible Aunt Agatha. Good thing he has Jeeves to bail him out -- except during this imbroglio, Jeeves has gone on vacation ...
I enjoy Wodehouse, particularly Bertie's then-contemporary slang, but I can't comprehend some of it. When context doesn't help, I say that life is too short to let those instances pause me, and charge on through. Doesn't dim my pleasure a bit.
Posted by: Weak Geek at March 23, 2025 09:09 AM (p/isN)
Comment: As I've been reading older literature recently (e.g., Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie, and Arthur Conan Doyle), I've noticed that I sometimes have to look up terms and phrases to be sure I understand them correctly. In the case of Holmes and Christie, their stories are very, very British, so I'm sure that as an American I'm missing out on a lot of context that would be immediately recognizable to their contemporary British readers.

Re: F. Paul Wilson. The first book I read by him was The Keep; essentially Nazis vs. Dracula in a medieval fortress. Great book, made into a mediocre (although sometimes interesting) movie. The next book I read was The Tomb, first of the Repairman Jack series. Great book, although it wasn't clearly going to lead to a series, since it wasn't obvious that Jack was going to survive the book. Highly recommended.
Posted by: Disillusionist at March 23, 2025 11:23 AM (rsMc/)
Comment: The Repairman Jack series is another one of those "comfort reads" even though the stories are decidedly bleak. As the series progresses, Jack's "fixes" grow increasingly bizarre and more challenging, especially when his path is set for him at the end of the series. "No coincidences" becomes his mantra at that point. There is a noticeable shift in Jack's character between The Tomb and the next book in the series, Legacies. Jack does carry the scars from The Tomb throughout his subsequent adventures, and it becomes a plot point here and there, as the physical scars he carries from that adventure react in the presence of the "Otherness."

To cleanse my palate and get me back to a more normal place, I turned to one of my endlessly-re-readable standbys, Tim Powers' The Drawing of the Dark, which I love.
Posted by: Splunge at March 23, 2025 11:26 AM (ju/6W)
Comment: One of my college buddies recommended The Drawing of the Dark to me many, many years ago. I have read it a couple of times and liked it. Who knew that beer had such mystical properties?
After reviewing some of OregonMuse's old Book Threads, I thought I'd try something a bit different. Instead of just listing WHAT I'm reading, I'll include commentary as well. Unless otherwise specified, you can interpret this as an implied recommendation, though as always your mileage may vary.
The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
I've continued to work my way through this doorstopper of a book (1,077 pages). I just finished The Hound of the Baskervilles and am now in The Valley of Fear. Only two more short story collections--His Last Bow and The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes--and I will be finished!
UPDATE: I finished The Valley of Fear this morning...
The Dark Descent edited by David G. Hartwell
As with Sherlock Holmes, I'm slowly working my way through this doorstopper as well (1,011 pages). I'm nearly finished with the middle section, which includes such classic stories as H.P. Lovecraft's "The Rats in the Walls," William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily," and "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I'd read that last one may years ago in high school. I had forgotten how weird it gets at the end. Good stuff. This book was recommended by multiple Morons last week, so if you are looking for a great anthology of horror stories, this is one you might want to pick up!
