If you haven't seen Fatman yet, it's good. A real Christmas action thriller.
The fun thing about Fatman is that it plays everything almost 100% bone-dry and straight, like it's a real movie about a plot to assassinate Santa for some black-as-coal vengeance. It savors every action movie trope, including "Kris" wondering if it's time to finally retire, and feeling misanthropic about a world in which the old codes he lived by no longer have any meaning.
A world that's gone all... naughty.
It's almost 100% serious. It's the 0.1% where Kris gives you a wink of his eye and a twist of his head that delivers the chuckle (he's a right jolly old elf -- but also, cruel). And if you squint past the "Kill Santa" premise, it's a competent, fairly realistic assassination movie. Just with more elves than the usual action movie.
Comparing the trailer of Violent Night to Fatman -- it looks like Violent Night goes over-the-top with "Christmassy Killings." In Fatman, it's a straight mano a mano showdown. Kris' weapon of choice is a Colt Walker, though he has an automatic as a back-up.
Also Walter Goggins is great in it. He's very funny, but not silly, so he doesn't lose his value as a credible threat.
Here's that girl that just got a record contract with her cover of "Dreams," now covering "Rhianon."
