Manufacturing Jobs Surge Thanks to Trump's Tariffs and America First Agenda

The Regime doesn't like this.

People with steady jobs have confidence and people with confidence can oppose the Regime.

American manufacturing is on the rebound -- and that good news could hardly come at a better time for President Donald Trump, as Republicans gird themselves for the midterm elections just two months from now.

Manufacturing isn't the only sector that's on a hiring spree; businesses across the board added 162,000 new jobs in August.

Even The New York Times called the latest employment numbers "zesty."

The paper quoted T. Rowe Price's chief US economist, Blerina Uruci: "It's a very good report . . . And it perhaps shows that financial conditions more broadly are not that tight."

The workforce participation rate rose as well -- which matters, because people who drop out of the labor force are invisible in unemployment rates that only count those who are looking for work.

This economy is pulling Americans who'd given up hope off the sidelines and putting them to work.

That's a success not only for Trump's economic policy, but for his immigration crackdown, too: It's no longer so easy for companies to abandon Americans by hiring foreign workers instead.

Establishment economists predicted none of this.

They were certain Trump's tariffs would be catastrophic, and that American industry would contract without constant infusions of foreign labor.

Relentless efforts to stop the president's economic agenda in the courts created uncertainty that's bad for business.

Companies have to make plans based on a predictable environment of taxation and regulation -- if nobody knows whether tariffs will remain in place, nobody can afford to make long-range decisions about re-shoring jobs and buying from American suppliers instead of sources overseas.

That's what the president's foes -- who want maximum economic globalization -- were counting on.

Yet all the lawfare of the past year hasn't stopped the America First employment agenda from succeeding.

The results have been especially impressive in manufacturing, where the latest numbers show the biggest growth coming from jobs that make long-lasting products.

As Peter Navarro, former director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, notes in RealClearMarkets, "Manufacturing employment rose by 16,000 in August, with nearly all of that gain coming from durable-goods manufacturing."

Trump and Vance are also promoting their planned reversal of an LBJ-era rule that homes with a stay-at-home mother are not eligible for family subsidies available to homes with only working parents.

The White House is reportedly planning to reverse a half-century of damage to the nuclear family by rewarding married parents who stay home and raise their children, as Vice President JD Vance appears poised to officially announce the program's addition on Thursday at the Republican National Convention's (RNC) Dallas gathering.

"A two-parent family is the best place in which to raise a kid, and certainly it's a sacrifice. But our job is to raise good children who become good citizens, and so I think that this is an important initiative," Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks told Just The News.

The administration is drafting a rule that would let stay-at-home married parents receive subsidies from the $12 billion Child Care and Development Fund. Vance has made the initiative a priority, telling the crowd at his Marietta, Georgia rally on Saturday: "What's left over with the ashes of what they've torn down is socialism. Well, we've got a different approach, my friends. We want to invest in you. We want to fight for you, and we want to fight for your children's future."

"We're going to defeat socialism by giving you a stake in the American dream and that's how we're going to win the future. Our goal is to reverse a concensus that has screwed over communities like this one for decades," Vance concluded.

Under the draft, one married parent could receive aid to care for their own child while a spouse works at least 35 hours a week. Unmarried couples and nonworking single parents would remain ineligible.

The program now serves about 1.3 million children, mostly in households headed by single-working parents. Critics say expanding eligibility without extra funding would squeeze current recipients and providers, and the rule will need White House approval and a public comment period to take effect next .

I saw one conservative object to this plan by saying that the aid is a socialist measure and extending socialist measures to stay-at-home-mom families is still extending socialism.

I guess that's true -- but the socialist measure is already on the books and is unlikely to be repealed. Given that -- does it make sense to deny these child subsidies to parents just because one parent raises the kids at home?
