One DA in California Tallies the Wreckage from the Zero Bail Policy: 70% of All Criminals Released Reoffended, and 20% of Them Committed Even More Serious Crimes Such as Kidnapping, Carjacking, and Murder
In April 2020, California began setting bail at zero dollars for all but the most serious crimes. Supposedly this was a covid measure, but of course AOC and The Skwad had been agitating for zero bail for years. Covid was just a pretext to set all the criminals free, just as covid was a pretext to lock up all the law-abiding citizens and their children.
Although the state rescinded the policy after some months, some counties chose to keep it.
One of those counties was the aptly-named Yolo County. YOLO! seems to be their view on crime, as well as public safety.
The DA there has finally gotten around to examining the effects of the zero-bail sytem.
His accounting? 70% of those let out on zero bail, get this, almost immediately re-offended. Almost as if telling criminals that there were no consequences for their actions encouraged them to commit more crimes.
And, in fact, many committed more serious crimes -- including murder.
It turns out that in his county, between 2020 and 2021, fully 70% of people released with zero bail went on to commit additional crimes after their release, including some who were charged with armed robbery and murder. Jeff Reisig concluded that there is "no rational public safety-related basis" for having this zero-bail policy in place, particularly in the post-pandemic era.
In Yolo County, 595 individuals were released on $0 bail during the period in question. Of those, 420 (70.6%) were rearrested for new crimes. 123 (20%) were arrested for violent crimes. These included murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, carjacking and domestic violence. So not only did a significant majority display recidivism, but fully one in five committed violent crimes.
Speaking of carjackings, recidivism, and social decay, Tucker Carlson spoke about all of these things Tuesday night.
And Soros prosecutors as well. Even though that's "antisemitic," according to all the people funded by, get this, George Soros.
