Happy Tuesday.
The Bergdahl situation ended up in a free-fall yesterday, with news coming so fast it was difficult to keep up. One conversation I found myself getting tied up in frequently was speculation as to how the White House thought this was going to go. What were they thinking? Service members are coming out of the woodwork to denounce this guy as, at best, a deserter and, at worst, a traitor who actively assisted the Taliban. Then it turned out that both the White House and the State Department had previously stated that they would follow the law and inform Congress before exchanging detainees for Bergdahl. Eli Lake, who has been doing great work on this, describes how the White House "forced consensus" this time to get the intelligence community and the military to support the exchange.
Oh, Obama's State Department has decided to skirt the law that says the U.S. will not fund Hamas or partners of Hamas or people or groups who are affiliated with Hamas.
I missed Gallup's poll on Friday about moral acceptability on a number of issues including premarital sex, embryonic stem cell research, and euthanasia.
I desire these. Greatly.
