Thou Wert Better In A Grave Than To Answer With Thy Uncovered Body This Extremity Of An ONT

Howdy Horde! Welcome to Thursday night! I found this interesting.

Pretty interesting illustration of the difference in field of vision between a predator species and a prey species. Of course, if you ride the horse backwards, between the two of you you'd have a 360 degree field of vision!

Good News

Catholic priests identifying as 'liberal' or 'progressive' have 'all but vanished' from seminaries

A comprehensive study polling thousands of Catholic priests found that new clerics identifying as politically "liberal" or theologically "progressive" have "all but vanished" from seminaries in the United States.

The study was produced by The Catholic University of America's "The Catholic Project" and draws on responses from 131 bishops, 3,516 priests and "in-depth interviews of over 100 priests."

"Simply put, the portion of new priests who see themselves as politically 'liberal' or theologically 'progressive' has been steadily declining since the Second Vatican Council and has now all but vanished," the survey reported.

"More than half of the priests who were ordained since 2010 see themselves on the conservative side of the scale," The Catholic Project reports. "No surveyed priests who were ordained after 2020 described themselves as ‘very progressive.’"

The study found that among priests ordained since 2020, over 80% identify themselves as "conservative/orthodox" regarding theology.

This is a sharp contrast to priests ordained before 1960, over 60% of whom identified as "progressive" or "very progressive."

What a novel idea, to have a church where the priests believe in the teachings of Christ. Unfortunately it's going to take a while for them to work their way through the ranks and replace the corrupt leadership that the church suffers from today.

Might be too late to be much use to Easterners (although the Popeye's BOGO deal lasts until Sunday), but maybe you left coasters can take advantage.

Reptile Disfunction

Helicopters are making crocodiles horny — here’s why

I really just wanted to use that title, but here's the deets:

John Lever, who owns Koorana Crocodile Farm in Rockhampton, Queensland, recently told the ABC that the bulls among his stable of about 3,000 crocodiles were sent into a mating frenzy when a Chinook helicopter came in low over the farm.

“All of the big males got up and roared and bellowed up at the sky, and then after the helicopters left they mated like mad,” he revealed last month. “There’s something about the sonic waves that really gets them stirred up.”

Man shoots, kills 2 climate activists blocking highway

Bad Santa

Look, I'm not – quite – ready to say that climate cultists blocking roads should be shot down like dogs, but I would note 2 things: #1 The cultists are never held accountable for the mayhem and deaths they cause by tying emergency vehicles up in traffic or the harm they do to people who lose their jobs or freedom (I saw one video of a guy pleading with them to let him go by, if he missed his appointment with his probation officer he would be put back in jail) due to their actions. #2 If the police and other authorities continue to allow these kind of protests by refusing to enforce the law, people ARE going to start taking things into their own hands and more of them will be shot.

Home Defense Against A T-Rex

On Hamas

A Different Concept of Death

PB: Yes, the thought is: What led the attackers to commit these terrible massacres? It must be something terrible that was done to them. And so we always hear about the terrible things that were done to the Palestinians. Of course, terrible things were done to the Palestinians. But many populations have undergone terrible things without responding by committing massacres.

AS: Does the thought fall short?

PB: Yes, here is a movement, Hamas, that is openly committed to a racist and genocidal ideology. But many people do not want to let go of their idea that the world is a place where there are simple causes and effects, and the causes are always material, and doctrines do not count for anything.

AS: Now we see that people still think that way.

PB: And that will continue to be the case. People are blind to the ideology at work here. You can see it in the media, which are often naive. You can see it on the radical Left, but also among reasonable people who don’t want to acknowledge the ideological thinking. Therefore, the impulse to be blind encounters very little resistance. Very little progress has been made since September 11th, 2001, in this regard, which is truly distressing.

Not a very happy thought. I've always said, when someone tells you they want you dead, take them at their word and react accordingly.

Be Prepared

The Problem with Prepping

It's really too long for pull quotes to get the gist of it, but Cat Girl Kulak basically argues that preppers are prepping for a Night of the Living Dead or The Stand scenerio, but that's not likely to happen.

When it comes to violent early death, starvation, loss of standard of living, everything preppers are nominally concerned about, the things that kill people by the millions, the big five are:
1. Communist Revolution
2. Civil War/regime change
3. Foreign Invasion
4. failed domestic outward invasion,
5. crippling economic sanctions/blockade.
THE MAJORITY of countries have experienced at least one of these since 1900, and a shocking number have 5 or more instances of one or another.
The distinctive thing about all of these, every single one, is that social-political order, from the perspective of the person on the ground, STAYS INTACT throughout all but the narrowly dramatic moment… and maybe not even then.
“What will you do during the end of the world?”
I’m sorry to have to tell you this: But in 99% of all scenarios, You’ll still be going to work and paying your taxes, right up until the death squad rolls through or the press gangs drag you away.
The peasants on the eastern front were still working their farms and worried about making quota when the Whermacht went through.

Food for thought.

Feel Good Story Of The Day

auction car.jpg

Full story here: Son of Fallen Sheriff's Deputy Is Given Dad's Squad Car at Auction

This is rural Colorado. Salt of the Earth people. I'm willing to bet that every one of them bidding on that car was going to give it to the Cop's son. There's no way I can see the bidding go to 60K otherwise. So win for the kid, and win for the charity holding the auction. And probably win for the rancher in the form of a tax write-off.
