Happy Saturday Eve of Labor Day Weekend '23. My friend and fellow colleague CBD has gifted me tonight's Music Thread. I hope I live up to his and your expectations this evening.
I love music. It is basically playing here at Casa Misanthrope from the time I arise to the time I say goodnight.
Living in the land of the Frozen Tundra music outlets are at a minimum. We have the standard Wisconsin Public Radio, Top 40 stuff, a couple of Country&&&Western stations and lastly, the Classic Rock station. I very seldom listen to any of these "Local" stations.
Recently I was fishing with my younger brother and the topic of music, his band and Spotify came up. He presented his case how Spotify and other music streaming sites were hurting musicians. I found out his band is on Spotify and has a small but apparently loyal following. He wouldn't say how much they received from listens. His music at the moment isn't anything that would be played on "Local" stations.
My first experience with streaming music was Pandora, SirusXM and then Spotify. I currently subscribe to Spotify.
If you are like me you are curious about some new music, amirite? AM/FM channels are dreck for the most part. So that leaves Streaming.
One artist who I had never heard of before listening to SiriusXM Little Steven's Garage was Jesse Mallin.
My first experience of hearing an Alejandro Escovedo song, it was being performed by Ian Hunter on a Pandora channel. I can now listen to any number of Escovedo albums without purchasing every single one.
What I really enjoy about Spotify are their features of suggesting trending, favorite artists, recommend radio of various artists, new releases, suggested artists, etc.
Spotify has introduced me to but not limited to: Annie Keating, Box of Frogs, Cold Chisel. Can't say I would have ever heard of any of these without streaming services.

The Erie Canal Soda Pop Festival was held over three days on Bull Island, near Griffin, Indiana. The Promoters expected over 50,000 music fans, and over 200,000 attended the festival. Many bands pulled out as the festival drifted steadily into anarchy. Bands that did appear included Flash Cadillac & the Continental Kids, Black Oak Arkansas, Cheech and Chong, Foghat, Albert King, Brownsville Station, Canned heat, Flash, Ravi Shankar, Rory Gallagher, Lee Michaels and Frosty, the Eagles, The Amboy Dukes, and Gentle Giant. Three concert goers drowned in the Wabash River and as the festival ended, the remnants of the crowd burned down the music stand.

Having the privilege of hosting 5 nights of The ONT has allowed me to insert a fair amount of music into that thread. The site, This Day In Music.com has allowed me to discover Dr. Feel Good. Listening to Dr. Feel Good on Spotify then brought exposure of Mickey Jupp, The Blues Band and a great number of Blues Bands from the UK and Australia.
Do you have any favorite artists? How do you follow them? Are you looking for new music? Have you found out what you were looking for?
Feel free to answer those questions. Or add your own insights into the realm of music curiosity.
Here is another artist I discovered through Spotify.
