The Morning Report - 7/15/20

milwmao.jpg

Good morning, kids. Midweek and a as I scan the links, as hideous and depressing as most of them are, this morning I feel a bit more optimistic about the election, if not the future of the nation as a whole. First up, a vaccine for the Sino Sinus Syphilis that began its initial testing back in March has yielded results wherein all of the participants developed antibodies to the virus, and now the trials can be significantly ramped up. Aside from the fact that the numbers of those infected compared with the actual number of deaths indicate that this thing really is on par with seasonal flu (those who suffer or worse, die from it notwithstanding), it's still a tantalizing announcement.

The mobilization and effort to get to this stage so quickly is a testament to both the President and his team's organizational ability and the medical research field's prowess. Second, Anthony Fauci, whom the Left seem to worship as both an oracle and a perceived enemy of Trump is unequivocally crowing about this news. Considering both he and virtually everyone on the Left insisted that there would be no lifting of lockdowns until we had a vaccine - virtually an impossible task given the nature of viruses - this is sure to knock the wind out of their sails, and perhaps their using Fauci as a cudgel to beat up on Trump. For months, people, myself included, were begging the President to jettison this guy. By keeping him close, a moment like this pays off hugely in political terms, and shows Trump's instincts are razor sharp, IMHO. Should be interesting to see the media either rip Fauci or otherwise try to spin his remarks, if not outright embargo them.

Jumping around a bit, Trump-supported Tommy Tuberville utterly trounced Jeff Sessionzzz in the GOP Alabama senate primary and will take on Doug Jones in November. Click here for the Decision Desk for all of yesterday's results plus the usual cromulent analysis. Frankly, though I am not as worried about Trump's chances as I was before the Mount Rushmore speech, it's the fate of the Senate that keeps me up at night. On the plus side, along with Tuberville's massive win, this is not a mid-term election and incumbents only rarely lose a second term. That usually means coattails, but the political/electoral landscape has changed dramatically in only a few short years. That said, the combination of a doddering, demented, deviant kiddie-diddler with oatmeal in his mouth and cranial cavity as the Democrat nominee and a party that is setting American cities, the American Constitution and the American way of life on fire should be more than enough to scare the living daylights out of anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together. Should be.

Also, while no one was looking, the markets had a tremendous day, closing up 556 points. Despite urban insurrection and nearly five months of an intentional strangulation of the greatest economic boom in history, Wall Street is still bullish on the future. Given that yesterday was also the day that Biden's handlers came out with the economy destroying Green New Deal Two-Luddite Boogaloo, they must also think his prospects for November are not so rosy. That brings us back to politics, and speaking of things that no one saw, did you know that yesterday was Day One of the Democrat National Convention? Me neither:

...The long-planned dates -- July 13-17 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- were first moved to Aug. 17-20, then cancelled and turned into some kind of national Zoom meeting, and finally dropped down the memory hole and forgotten faster than it takes Joe Biden to forget what he had for breakfast. There was no daily coverage of this disaster, no countdown to the big day, no masked reporters flitting and flailing after the former vice president or his team demanding to know when America might expect the most festive Democratic Party event since Samantha Power invited HBO to her 2016 election party...

The revelation of the platform for the media and the candidate's acceptance speech are likely the longest-lasting effects of the week, so it's no surprise Democrats don't want a convention -- and no surprise corporate media are covering for them. The party has moved farther to the left than any Biden primary supporter might have imagined, and the candidate has mentally deteriorated at a rapid rate too many of us recognize from family experiences...

"This agenda that you've laid out here is not the agenda of a man who is trying to reach out beyond his own party for support [to win the election]," 55-year political reporting veteran Brit Hume commented. "This is a man who is simply trying to solidify support within his own party, and he might be right about that..."

The insanity above sounds like it should be news, but it isn't. And that decision is as deliberate as it is partisan. For a glimpse, take a look at a Monday Google News search for Republican National Convention: Words and phrases like "dumpster fire... chaos... deep trouble... struggling" and "mad scramble" come in at the top..."

As I mentioned yesterday, the lack of media coverage of any of the rioting, mayhem and violence, whether politically-motivated or just resulting from criminality gone wild with the dismantling of metropolitan police forces - which was in our faces 24/7 almost from the moment the incident in Minneapolis made the news - is striking, if not revelatory. It means that the move to abolish police as well as the alleged popularity of Black Lives Matter, as a movement and an organization, is both a lie and as such, political poison.

Whatever political headwinds there are facing Trump and Republican candidates in the Senate and House, and for sure there are some, I think much of our fear about the future is, like conventional polling, is meant to dispirit and depress us. It worked in the past because with candidates like Dubya, Pee-Air Defecto Romney and the still-lying-in-state John McCain, it was easy to be dispirited and depressed. Not so with Trump, for me anyway. Look at everything he's been through since he announced his candidacy five years ago. He's still here. And the reason is, he fights back. It also helps that he had accomplished so much essentially by himself that no other Republican president before him.

So where does that leave the Dems? Back to square one. And two: more shampeachment hearings vis a vis the pardoning of Roger Stone - muh colluzhnikovs! - and Democrat mayors and governors ignoring actual science and statistics and ramping up the psy-op scare tactics to shut down their economies once again, as well as force vote-by-mail on us which really would mean stealing the election.

Yes, it's tedious and tiresome. But if this is all that they have left, then so be it. I'm feeling good today and that's what counts. May it continue for another 111 days, with the option for another 1,500 or so.
