Amy Klobuchar, Addressing a Mostly Hispanic Audience: "Me Llamo Elena"
So multicultural!
In front of a Hispanic-majority crowd Tuesday, Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar picked an interesting way to introduce herself.
"My name is Amy, but when I was in fourth grade Spanish they gave me the name Elena," she told the Las Vegas Culinary Workers Union. The group represents 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno and Latino workers make up more than 50 percent of its members, according to its website.
Klobuchar added that she was called "Elena" because she was unable to roll her R's.
She was also called "Pinche Puta."
That last part was a Trumpy lie -- en espanol.
The Spanish equivalent for "Amy" would probably be Amalia. Not Elena.
There are no rolled r's in that word, unless they're all sneaking across the word-border. I can't think of any Spanish names you'd give someone for "Amy" that would have r's of any kind in them.
People are pointing out that "Elena" failed to recall the name of the president of Mexico earlier this month.
Maybe because there are r's in Obrador. I don't think they're rrrrrrolled, though.
