Perhaps The Days Of Blank Checks For Every Crazy Academic With A Grudge Is Ending?
Probably not, but making it uncomfortable for academia's anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-market economics proclivities is always a good thing. Georgetown Gets a Title VI Wakeup Call
Rep. George Holding (R-N.C.) won't be retiring from the House until next year, but he's already left his mark on academe. This past tax day, he sent Education Secretary Molly DeVos a letter objecting to the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies' (CMES) use of federal Title VI funds for the anti-Semitic performance of a Palestinian rapper at UNC in March. A flurry of communications between Department of Education (DoE) and UNC officials resulted, most notably the ominous August DoE letter detailing CMES' myriad violations of Title VI regulations.
Almost overnight, the higher education lobby suffered an emotional meltdown, House Democrats expressed their "concern" by demanding a raft of DoE documents, and academics fretted that public support might become contingent on performance rather than privilege.
As Lenin (or Marx) famously never said..."The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them." Maybe we are finally noticing that unqualified support for the rabid America-Haters in our universities is not a very good idea. The good thing is that they are , in the main, cowards, and will fight only when in a crowd. So cut them out of the herd and end their funding, one anti-Semite at a time.
So much of this funding can be controlled by the various departments (thanks to Chevron vs. NRDC), so a chief executive who isn't a dog-eating America hater might be able to do some real damage to the embedded progressives in our ivory towers.
