Border Apprehensions Plunge 90% in Arizona Due to Trump's Stay-in-Mexico Policy
Catch and release... back into Mexico.
Not that these migrants are from Mexico. Not originally. But they're from Mexico in the sense that they try to cross from Mexico.
Illegal border crossings in Arizona "plunged" in December of 2019, according to the Associated Press, dropping a staggering 90% year-over-year following a Trump administration change in policy that has asylum seekers waiting for their adjudication hearings in Mexico and not in the United States.
Last winter, a "record number" of illegal border crossers were apprehended in the Arizona sector of the United States-Mexico border, with 60,000 migrants taken into United States Border Protection custody in December of 2019 alone, per the Washington Examiner. That was the beginning of a surge migrants crossing the United States' southern border; by May of 2019, the Border Patrol was recording a record number of apprehensions every month, sometimes topping 100,000.
"50,753 people were arrested for trespassing from Mexico in December. It marks the third month in a row that more than 50,000 people have illegally crossed into to the U.S. Another 10,000 people who tried to enter through ports were told they lacked the documents to do so," according to the Examiner. "Illegal immigration apprehensions at the southern border have skyrocketed since Trump’s first few months in office, when 15,000 to 20,000 people were reported being apprehended per month."
In Arizona alone, the Border Patrol was registering around 14,000 apprehensions per month by May of 2019, but in October of 2019, there were only 800 apprehensions. In December of 2019, the streak kept up, and apprehensions dropped around 90%.
Trump intends to address "birth tourism" next:
The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to crack down on foreign nationals who visit the United States with the explicit intention to give birth, taking advantage of the country’s birthright citizen laws.
President Donald Trump is expected to roll out changes to visa requirements in the coming days in order to stifle the “birth tourism” industry, in which many pregnant women from across the world enter the U.S. to give birth, according to administration officials who spoke with Axios. The proposals would be the latest in the administration’s efforts to clamp down on abuse of the U.S. immigration system.
Meanwhile, the Democrarts boldly announce they're for illegal immigrants -- and no one else.
Amy Klobuchar just denounced herself for having previously supported the controversial position that America's language is English, and Joe Biden declares that drunk driving is not a felony, certainly one that shouldn't get you kicked out of America even if you were already an illegal alien.
As a blogger at Instapundit noted: This is an especially strange position for Joe Biden to take, because, for decades, he has attributed his first wife's death to a drunk driver.
That was false. It was/is a slander against the driver, who was not drunk.
But he has busted out the "my wife was killed by a drunk driver" lie at every opportunity to increase the sympathy generated by 10%.
And now he says of illegal aliens driving drunk and killing other people's wives -- meh, no big deal.
