David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve Play Chess
As always, the chess/dress pr0n thread is an open thread, so there is no such thing as an off-topic comment.
Easier Problem - White To Play (891)
Black just pushed his pawn to f3. He chose -- poorly. Why?
Goal: Snag the queen
Hint: Knight fork!

More Challenging Problem - White To Play (892)
Goal: White can force mate or gain decisive material
Hint: Make the right queen move and the world is your oyster

1. Qc4+!
Forces Black to make some unpleasant choices:
1...Kb8 2.Nd7+ knight fork.
1...Kb6 2.Nd7+ ditto.
The only way to avoid the knight fork is to do the trade up front:
1...Qc6
2.Nxc6 bxc6
...and White has enough material advantage to win.
More Challenging Problem - White To Play
r4r1k/pb2b2p/1n2pp2/1Bq1B3/6R1/2N5/1PPQ2PP/1K1R4 w - - 0 1
You want: 1.Qh6 Rg8 2.Bxf6+ Bxf6 3.Qxf6+ Rg7 4.Qxg7# (but 1...Rf7 spoils that)
You'll settle for: 1.Qg5 Rf7 2.Bxf6+ Rxf6 3.Qg7#, but Black is not going to play 2...Rxf6.
Instead, you'll get:
1.Qg5 Rf7
2.Bxf6+ Bxf6
3.Qxc5 Bd5
So instead of a quick mate, White will have to settle for trading a bishop for Black's queen. Which should be good enough for the win. All White needs to do is simplify. For example, like this:
4.Rf1 Raf8
5.Qe3 Bg7
6.Rxf7 Rxf7
7.Bd3 e5
8.Qg5 e4
9.Nxd5 exd3
10.cxd3 Nd7
11.Qe3 Nf8
12.Rf4 Rxf4
13.Qxf4 a5
14.Kc2 Kg8
15.Nf6+ Bxf6 and White wins
Hope to see you all next week!

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app.
