Queen Elizabeth contemplates her move

As always, the chess/dress pr0n thread is an open thread, so there is no such thing as an off-topic comment.
Easier Problem - White To Play (836)
Goal: White can force a mate in 4
Hint: White's rook is best left where it is

Carlsen v. Caruana
The 10th game of the World Championship was, get this, a draw. This reminds me of that Karpov-Kasparov match where they agreed to Fischer's "only wins count" scoring idea. There was no limit on the number of games. The match would go on until one of the players scored the necessary number of wins. Fischer thought this would create a more fighting chess rather than a reliance on placid draws to accumulate points, but in this case, it produced precisely the opposite, that is, one draw after another, endlessly. I forget who eventually won the match, but it was pretty exhausting and Fischer's scoring idea went into the trash.
More Challenging Problem - White To Play (838 )
Goal: Win material -- and the game
Hint: Do not allow the knight-for-bishop exchange

Better than 1...Rc8 2.Qd6#
2.Qe8+ Kd6
3.Qe6+ Kc5
4.Qb6# 1-0

That knight looks kind of trapped back there, so White may be in a position to snatch it up.
1.Kg3 Nf1+
2.Kf2 Nd2
If 2...Nh2 then 3.Kg2 and the knight is toast.
Now, White will throw away his win if he allows Black to trade off his errant knight for the bishop, so
3.Ba2
...takes away this possibility and also removes b1 as a flight square.
3...any
Nothing can stop
4.Ke2
and picking up the knight next move. White is now up a bishop and should win.
Hope to see you all next week!

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app.
